Konerko defends Sox, looks ahead
The players union can go f*** themselves, I hate everything that organization does. I think Paul does end up going to the angels, hopefully I'm wrong.

Rumor: AL Playoff OF tests positive for steroids
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) fathom, where might I ask do you come up with "the Sox' strict stance against steroids"? On a separate note: If it were Podsednik, it certainly didn't help him hit. Teams were getting him out consistently with high fastballs during the playoffs and he couldn't catch up to them. He finally caught up with a fat pitch from Lidge who throws 95mph. That speed alone along with catching it square would allow any player to hit it out of the yard. Actually, he caught up with two because he did hit a nice triple a day or two earlier. I guess the roids were just kicking in... Scott had an excellent post season. He loves swinging through high heaters though, that's his swinging strike out pitch I guess you could say. EDIT: I'm just saying he had a very good post season, I dont want this post to look like I'm saying he's on roids cause in no way do I believe that.

Rumor: AL Playoff OF tests positive for steroids
QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) You are right. If you consider that the Sox were going to not take the test during ST 2004 so that they would be counted as "failed", which would then cause the steroid testing policy to kick in. Two of our outfielders weren't here in 04. However, like I said I don't think any of our guys would do this but it's just something that scared me and obviously a few others as well.

Nice tidbit about our MVP
QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) In a way, Kenny did take a moneyball approach. The main gist of the Moneyball philosophy is going after players who have a skill that is undervalued in the market. With Beane's As, it as OBP. With Kenny's White Sox, it was run prevention (defense, pitching). See this is where I disagree, if that's true then everyone uses the moneyball theory. GM's are always looking for players who are undervalued in the market, diamonds in the rough if you will. Anyways, f*** this argument, it's been beaten to death. WORLD CHAMPS!!!!!!!!

Let's talk next year
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) No, he really wasn't. Timo's situational stats in 2004 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/6568...04&type=Batting Timo's situational stats in 2005 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/6568/situational Timo was a much, much better situational hitter in 2004. You are just remembering the few big hits he had this season. Timo was kept around because when he came on to pinch hit in the 8th or 9th with the tying run in scoring position he'd seem to come through, he did that a lot this year as well, I can give you a list if you want me to There's just no stat that shows that and I'm not talking close and late either cause that's a bit different.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) I think they're really after Neal Cotts instead of Damaso Marte in a deal like that. Personally I think Torii Hunter for Robinson Cano is gonna happen instead. Of course there's Sheffield, his ego and how he'd fit into the clubhouse etc. Right, that's what immediately came to my mind with sheff. I'm one of the few..hell maybe I'm the only one around here that does buy into chemistry so that is a concern. However, that being said, the guys who had reps of being bad in the clubhouse have become 2 of our leaders(aj, carl).

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) Holy s***, the planets are aligning. If Cashman offered Sheff + $$$ for Aaron + Marte -- wow... where do I sign? I believe this is the last year of Sheffield's deal, meaning if it doesn't go well, we can either trade him at the deadline, or let him go. But, he's going to mash the crap out of the ball in the time he is here. Well I just kind of threw that out there. I mean they desperately need a centerfielder and they desperately need a left handed reliever. I have no clue what they would want for sheff but it seems like he's been on the block for a little while now so I just kind of threw that out there. What do you think? Not enough?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Banking on clutch hitting is unwise. Just like Timo Perez was a money clutch hitter in 2004, he was far from the same hitter off the bench this season. Just add good hitters and you won't have to worry about getting clutch hits. We didn't bank on clutch hitting, we banked on good pitching and good defense. When you have a great bullpen and a team that doesn't make to many mistakes in the field you are going to win a lot of 1 run ball games. And.......ugh, am I going to have to list the clutch hits that Timo had this season, Timo was the same clutch hitter this year as last, some people like him for that and most people here hate him.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 11:59 PM) Because we won a ton of games just barely squeeking out enough runs, often times with clutch hits. Do you honestly think we are going to get all of those clutch hits next year? I don't. That's why it would be a good idea to improve the offense. I don't see why not. I'll say what I said all of this season, I'd love to add a bit more offense but I dont think it's a necessity and especially if it's coming at the expense of our pitching.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) That's the thing, can we right now, say our pitching staff next year is definitely going to put up as good numbers as they did this season? What if Don Cooper leaves? Then if Paul Konerko leaves, and you don't replace him with someone equally as good, how is this team going to be as good as they were in 2005? If Paul leaves we're going to have to trade Aaron imo cause he's replaceable and can bring us good value in return and that's something you've been saying. But I do not want to trade any of our pitchers away. The pitching can definitely be better, full year of bmac in the 5 hole, full year of bobby closing, hopefully a healthy dustin hermanson, no more damaso, the duke in the pen for a full year, etc. IMO the pitching definitely has the potential to be even better. If paul's gone aaron's the trade bait imo.

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) Count is the ultimate trade bait. He can't possibly repeat his '05 success. Sell high, buy low. There's no doubt in my mind that Jose has a better overall season in 06. I think Garland is the one who regresses a bit but will still be a damn solid starter. You don't mess with this starting rotation, it will be better overall in 06 then it was in 05 imo.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) EXACTLY. But because people loves Pods so much, you need to have 2 good run producers in the other OF spots. You can't have both Pods and Rowand if Rowand's offense stays on a 2005 level. If he can hit like he did in 2004, he'll be here for a long, long time. DBAHO, why do we NEED to have two good run producers in the outfield, last time I checked we're world champions without having two good run producers roaming the outfield.
