  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) We have scored a ton of runs for years. It doesnt make our offense consistent. The offense has been much more consistant then people give them credit for. I think people get the feeling that they've been inconsistant because they don't score a ton of runs at the beginning of games and everyone here starts freaking out in the game threads. Next thing you know they put a 3 spot up in the 7th inning.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) But Maggs seems OK after missing almost the exact same amount of time... Good point. Maggs also probably has a lot less pressure on him at this time. Still, I think Frank's going to be fine.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) Frank is feeling for the strikezone right now. When you see those excuse me check swing slap hits to the right side, or him backing off like crazy from an inside pitch like it was near his head, he is reaching. He has done this before, its a minor thing that needs to get fixed. When he stands statuesque in the box and doesnt move at all, then he is dangerous. This team has a few months to get better at situational hitting. On 2-0 you should have a zone locked in that you are taking a hard swing at. Some of those 2-0 swings were on low outside pitches. On 2-0 they should be looking center in. If its low and away take it. The count is still in your favor. On 0-2 they need to take a clue from the A's and shorten their swing up a bit and put the ball in play. We have been great this year in making things happen, if you put the ball in play you have a better chance than if you K. Whatever the A's are doing we're doing better considering we've scored more runs then them.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) I just went and looked it up, I didn't realize how bad he has been. The last week 2-19 .105 ba .190 obp .316 slg .590 ops 2bb 7k For the season the clutch numbers are just as bad .240 risp .125 risp 2 out .176 close and late .214 runners on .083 runners on 2 out .429 runner on 3rd He's just lost up there right now. That's to be a bit expected after being out of baseball for a while, however this is a good time to get Carl some ab's while Frank is in a rut. Frank's going to be fine, I have no doubt about that but it's going to take some time.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) And according to Mr. Reifert's blog, "As of 9 am, just 500 tickets remain for today's game. Sales for the four-game Boston series remain brisk, so act soon if you intend to attend." 31 k last night is going to be the lowest of the homestand, how awesome is that??
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) We'll see how Randy "1st Ballot HoF" Johnson is pitching come October. I would like to believe ours will "blow theirs out of the water" but there are some very good pitchers on their staffs who know the regular season is just meant to get to the dance, not a goal in itself. Think about Johnson - Mussina at Yankee Stadium and tell me Buerhle - Garland would "blow them out of the water". More accuratly we are talking edge or slight edge. Giambi v. Konerko Cano v. Jeter v. Uribe A-Rod v. Crede Matsui - Williams - Sheffield vs. Dye - Rowand - Pods Currently the Yankees have more .300 than any other starting lineup. They are still very potent and getting better. Johnson sucks this season and he's 10-6. Moose is in decline and he doesn't scare me at all. RJ is still decent but he's not what he used to be. Honestly I believe our pitching does kill there's, the only thing they have on us pitching wise is Rivera imo. Why'd you leave Iguchi out vs Cano that wasn't cool. Difference of opinion, agree to disagree
  7. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) my girlfriend bought me one since i said you never let me have one. it was scrumptious Cotton Candy rocks don't let anyone tell you differnent.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) The problem is that you have to get Carl Everett ABs somehow. He has been by far the most clutch player on this team in 2005. I completely agree, problem is scott has hit lefties fantastic this year, is probably the most valuable player of this team offensively and overall has just been awesome. Right now with Frank really looking lost Carl should be in there instead of Frank for his 2nd day of starting in a row instead of sitting out Pods. Let me add I think ozzie's done an absolutely fantastic job of working Carl in there, I just personally think Scott needs to be out there everyday.
  9. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) By the way, we have lost 5 of our last 6 at home, which is kinda hard to believe. Damn A's
  10. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:50 AM) Lineup: Ozuna 3b Guch Frank Konerko Everett LF Dye Rowand Widger Uribe Pods is really starting to become a platoon player, this makes no sense at all to me. Anytime there is a lefty out there now scotty has the day off.
  11. Hopefully Freddy does what he did against Cleveland and we take the series, GO SOX!!!!!!
  12. Willie Mays is the one guy I would have loved to watch play.
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) Player by player we lose to the Yankees and Red Sox I completely disagree with this. Overall their lineups are better then the Sox but our pitching staff blows both of their's out of the water.
  14. This team's light years better then the 2000 team and I'm not trying to knock that team. That was also a fun year but overall they have nothing on the 05 team.
  15. There's no downside to being 12 games up.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Well we have a nice big lead in our division. And you can make mistakes with a 99-100 mph fastball that you cant make with a 53 mph frisbee. If he doesnt walk the world, he can be filthy in a short set. I completely agree but with Bobby's history I'd prefer to take it slower with him, don't want to mess his mind up again, he's got to special of an arm to mess with his head. Now, if Dustin does go down and Bobby proves he can just absolutely dominate then sure give him a shot but that's only if he proves what he can do up here for a while and if Dustin's hurt. Hermy doesn't throw 100 like Bobby but he's blown 1 save and has been absolutely fantastic, he shouldn't lose his job because of an injury.

I'll say this again, if Jose throws like he did today(meaning he has good control) he won't get hit hard very much, he'll be pretty dominating for the most part. Some times you just have to tip your cap to the opposition and this is one of those cases, they hit a pitcher hard that usually doesn't get hit.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) Reading tomorrow's tribune article, it looks like Jenks might be the closer sooner, rather than later. That's an interesting article. They really love Bobby, there's nothing not to love about his arm, if he throws strikes the way he did he's going to be outstanding. Problem with making him the closer this year is most likely he'll have some growing pains but who the hell knows, stranger things have happened.
  19. QUOTE(KJean @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) Thank you! And I have a question, if anyone is still reading this thread. I've noticed that for both yesterday's game (7/18) and tonight's game (7/19) Crede has been batting without any gloves. And as far as I can remember he always uses gloves at bat. Is there any reason for the change? And does this have any effect on his success at bat? Just wondering! Yup, I noticed that too. Maybe he just feels more comfortable at the plate without batting gloves, I'm not sure the reason though.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) Rowand stop copying everything I say. Yeah, wtf is going on, everything I'm saying in my posts you're beating me to it.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Over Schilling, Clement, Wells Miller? Schilling hasn't proven he's healthy, Wells isn't very good at this point, ditto Miller. As for Clement his era keeps on going up and up, 2nd time around the league he's going to get hit much harder, I think JC's era will be lower by the end of the season.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) Hell yeah. So what's your problem?
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) Ok let's see here. On Baltimore he would be. Texas yes. Arizona yes. Almost any team in a pitchers park would have him in their rotation, because he wouldn't give up as many HR's. Just answer this, at the end of last year, if JC had an ERA of just above 4 at this point, would you have taken it? Add Boston in there as well.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) It also means that he can develop, and that we probably won't have to sign a closer off the FA market again for quite a while if all goes well. I've said this before but having Bobby, Damaso, Neal, Hermy, Cliff, and now im even happy to have viz back for next year just makes me extremely thrilled, the bullpen is in fantastic shape for this year and next.
