  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) If you ask Ozzie ANY question, you can count on a smile (maybe) and a curse (certainly). And if you ask ozzie a question about a player or any person in general you can be 100 percent certain that the word kid will be used.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) If I'm in Kenny's place, I have two things in mind, what I'd like to trade for Burnett and what the max is that will trade for Burnett. If things work out to where we can get Burnett somewhere between those two points, he'll pull the trigger. Completely agreed.
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) I think KW will keep exploring possibilities. However, when he made that remark about not foreseeing any big deals, he also said that he didn't want to rape the big club to do so and that is what was being asked for. The market changes as the deadline approaches, so he'll keep an ear open and see what happens. One thing about Kenny is you know he's always looking. If something makes sense he'll pull the trigger but he's not going to dismantle the 25 man roster of the best team in baseball, just doesn't make any sense.
  4. This might sound dumb but this kind of is like how the Iguchi negotiations went. Looks like we're going to get him, kenny has a strict stance then it looks like it's dead, all the sudden the player(team in this case) get desperate and poof a deal happens, wouldn't surprise me one bit if Kenny manages to get AJ for less then expected, who knows.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) Let's put it in terms you can understand... Mark Kotsay, just weeks ago, signed a contract extension that paid him $15M for two years. Here are Kotsay's career numbers. .285/.341/.422 and Rowand's .289/.341/.456 They are defensive equals, maybe a slight nod to Kotsay. Kotsay is making 6.5M this year, and will make 7 M in 06 & 07, then & 8M in '08. Rowand's three year contract was for 8.5M -- If you wanted to trade him, there would be 29 other teams beating down our door to take the guy off our hands at that price. Stop making sense
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Its funny how you mention all pitchers when we are talking about a non-pitcher..... Pitchers and position players are different when it comes to contracts. With hitters you have to prove yourself more. A course there are still expections like Adrian Beltre but his year last year was >>>> Rowands and he always had that much potential. Ya cause Beltre's making what 12 mill this year?? While Aaron's making 2. Beltre's always had potential and so has aaron though obviously more for Adrian. A lot of players get big money after 1 big year and Aaron's making 2 mill this year so it's not like kenny gave him a huge contract. I'll add another hitter in there as well since I guess pitchers don't count......Victor Martinez.
  7. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) Market is not that great for a 1 year wonder Tell that to Eric Milton, Carl Pavano, Kris Benson, Jaret Wright. Now go look up the fact that Aaron is a career .288 hitter and one of the top defensive centerfielders in baseball.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) We all know B-Mac wasn't ready, so there's no real point in using the B-Mac in the majors argument. And yes we all saw what Lowe did in the playoffs, but is it a guarantee that he's going to pitch like that again especially when his regular season stats are not great to say the least? At least someone like Jason Schmidt has had good form leading up to the deadline. And have a look at Lowe's splits compared to an un-named pitcher (I'll let you all try and guess which one it is). (Lowe is #1 BTW) BAA: 1) .284 2) .228 ERA: 1) 4.18 2) 4.34 WHIP: 1) 1.36 2) 1.30 HR: 1) 18 2) 17 Away Games: 1) 0-5 2) 3-2 July: 1) 0-2, 9.22 ERA 2) 2-2, 5.09 ERA Can I play??
  9. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) tonight on the local night news, channel 5... KTLA... they had a segment in their sports spot noting "intense intrest" from both the red and WHITE SOX for jeff weaver. all that was said, aside from both teams having "intense intrest" was that if the dodgers do trade weaver, they will be waving the white flag and will be giving up on their season. Weaver's a guy the sox probably figure could start and then pitch out of the pen as well. It's an interesting though considering Weaver is the opposite of a character guy, still has a great arm though.
  10. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Something a little different. That's the best one you've made so far and that's saying a lot.
  11. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) Maybe the Sox just want to take it slowly with him. Daigle has been playing a lot of 3B so he has nothing to do with it. Kanny got rained out. For some reason it slipped my mind that ross was down in Charlotte, I guess the fact that he should be in the bigs made me forget about him.
  12. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) I don't see the need to promote him anyway. What's the deal with Rogo, is he stuck in bham the rest of the year now with Daigle getting promoted to charlotte?
  13. QUOTE(chisoxfan14 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) I saw that i got very excited! I was like omg look My Willie is sliding on the tarp! That made my day! I wish you'd post more often.
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) They mean the same thing... so i did not know. Fair enough.
  15. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) No. Two off-seasons ago. As in the offseason before the 04 season, if I meant the offseason before 05, I would have said this past offseason.
  16. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Close. He is signed through next year at 4.75 million. So I was right. 3 year deal from last offseason.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Every other post I see on this board deals with how some player will help our team in the postseason. Am I the only one who doesn't think it's a lock we make the playoffs this season? In no way am I trying to be pessimistic with this, but I've watched enough sports in my life to know that much, much, much crazier things have happened than a team with a 13 (now down to 11) game lead in their division not making the postseason. The Twins have been a dynamite 2nd half team for a couple of seasons now, and we have a ton of games left against them this season. In no way do I feel like the AL Central divison has been decided. If we can't win some slugfests against the Red Sox and Yankees this season, we're going to struggle against them. This is one of the biggest reasons that I get upset when I see Ozzie make quotes about how this team doesn't need to make any changes. It's better to be proactive, and go for the "kill", then to wait to see if something bad happens, and then have to make a reactive move. I'd be lying if I said I haven't looked ahead to potential matchups in the playoffs or crap like that but do I think this race is locked up? Nope, until that magic number hits 0 the race is not over and I will never count the Twins out of anything.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) I don't think you have a very clear idea of what he would make on the free agent market. -- Aaron is struggling, yes. -- One thing he's not is overpaid. Bingo.
  19. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) And now they are giving Steven A. Smith his own show. Geez! I :puke when I heard about this.
  20. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) I would cry like a baby everynight if for some silly reason KW moved AaRow out and put Pods in CF. I'm sorry, but the ONLY reason Pods makes some of the catches he does is because of speed. He has no idea in terms of defensive positioning. And to put him out in charge of teh OF in CF is just, not a good idea. Scott in centerfield everyday is an awful idea. I love scott but he's a terrible centerfielder.
  21. That rain delay came at a horrible time. Freddy was doing his normal, let up runs in the first, get hit a bit in the 2nd but don't let anything up and then all the sudden he's ready to go, he was starting to find a groove and then POOF, rain. He comes back out after the delay and it's like another first inning for him. Then ozzie left him out there a bit to long as well, s*** happens unfortunately.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) I know, that's something that I've been thinking. There's something about our roster that just annoys me right now. We don't have much flexibility offensively, even though it seems like we should. I still hate Ozuna playing 3b. Here's a potential option: Ken Griffey Jr. in CF. I know, I know...he has the big contract and is injury-plagued. However, I've been very impressed with his hitting this season, and he could give us a whole different dimension at the plate. We definitely need help against tough righty pitchers. Here's the thing I'll say, I'd love to add another bat somewhere and ideally for me it'd be first base but that's not going to happen. I'd love to add a bat at first but I don't think we necessarily need to add a bat. I know you say we only beat up on the royals pen but we've beaten up some good bullpens this year. I don't know man, I just don't see us adding another bat there just isn't much room to start a big bat in this lineup. EDIT: I will say though that the idea of Griffey has started to really cross my mind. Everytime I watch him now I get flashbacks to the old junior. The one thing is obviously his contract and he has lost a step defensively. Once again the problem is there is no where to play him.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) I would love the Sox to acquire a number 3 hitter. Instead of going out and giving up huge prospects in order to get someone who pitches once every 5 games, why not go out and get an offensive weapon that could play every game? fathom, honest question who's out there to get?? And where is this player going to play?? Frank isn't going to be benched and nor should he be yet, Pauly isn't going to be benched because he's paul besides that there is no where to put another offensive weapon. Crede, Rowand, AJ, and Juan are all way to valuable to this team defensively to take them out of the lineup, honestly I just don't see where there's room for another hitter.
  24. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) You are a AR fan per your name, I am not, fact is 1 good year. I've always liked Aaron and I always will because of the way he plays the game. Now, if I didn't think he was worth the money he was making I'd tell you. No one player is greater then the team no matter how much someone likes that player, I had this same discussion about Frank a few weeks back.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Rowand has warning track power compared to last year. Last season, Rowand hit quite a few homers to the opposite field. This year, those opposite field drives are being caught on the warning track. I'm not going to argue with you on this, fathom. We've had this discussion before you know where I stand and vice versa, lets just leave it at that.
