  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) You take any negative comment way too seriously. If you really think this offense is good, then I don't know what to say. This week, besides for the Spurling Sensation, the offense has been piss poor. We can't score without a homer it seems like or a reliever coming in and just pitching awful. Sometimes, the offense has to go out there and just outslug the opposition. Our pitchers have pitched under so much stress this season without a lot of room for error. If anyone actually thinks our pitching will match it's first half of the year, then I recommend you watch games at the Cell when it gets hot out. Like I said I'm done discussing all of this. You guys win, happy?
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) And you are going on the idea that our pitchers are going to shut down the best offense in baseball. I forget..... Ok, I'm done, you win. I don't know what else to say anymore, they score runs against a good pitcher and it's not enough, FINE.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) Clement didnt have ace stuff. If you think this was vintage Clement then I think your seats were a bit too far up in the UD. A few solo homers and a few hits. They should of rocked him big time. It's always something. Most of the time when Buehrle gets 5 runs the Sox win, Red sox, Devil Rays, the Knights, usually it won't matter. Clement's there ace and we hit him fine, I don't know what else you want.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:38 AM) The reason we're pissed off is we just lost 3 games in the standings in a little over 50 hours. Also, our current line-up just doesn't match-up well with the above average teams we have to face during the 2nd half of the season. WHAT DID THE OFFENSE DO WRONG TODAY?? WHAT WHAT WHAT, PLEASE TELL ME
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Great stats Frank the tank. It's just a matter of time before some people realize our offense isn't playoff caliber. And the thing is, it's not how it performs in the postseason that worries me. Right now, my only concern is getting to the postseason. We've still looked like s*** against nearly every top pitcher we've faced this season. And what did the offense do wrong tonight? Was it score 4 runs off Clement in 6 innings or tie the game off Schilling in the 8th? Last time I checked at this point Clement's their ace and we hit him fine.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) I made some statements in this thread, but by no means do I think Willie should be starting over Iguchi. Hell, I'd rather have Ozuna play 2nd base during games in which we bench Iguchi. However, I disagree with all those who are overrating Iguchi so much. To say he's been absolutely awesome is quite a stretch. I think one of the reason so many think he's been spectacular is because they're comparing him to Willie Harris. I said it and I meant it. There hasn't been a better number two hitter in baseball this year.
  7. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) I always felt Willie had a better arm and D than Gooch. So Im sorry for looking at the importance in that. All I'm going to say is this team would be so much worse right now if Tad wasn't batting 2nd. He's been awesome, absolutely awesome.
  8. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Quit with this getting guys over BS. Like Fathom said we could put a pitcher in the # 2 hole with that approach. All I know is when I seen Willie Harris Healthy and starting he did a great job. The only reason rowand finally got his shot last year was because of all the injuries. WE HAD NO CHOICE. Other wise I bet Rowand= Traded You just don't understand the importance of getting a guy over to 3rd with less then 2 outs I guess.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) Iguchi has done everything that's been asked of him. This is problem with examining stats. The little things that don't show up in the stats, or even deplete a player's stats are the things it takes to win ballgames. Iguchi had gone 35 games without an error. He's performed in the #2 spot in the order just as it's supposed to be done. He's become part of and awesome DP combo with Uribe. No, Willie Harris should not be the starting 2B. In fact, if it wasn't for Crede's bad back, Harris wouldn't even be with the big club. Once again I'll say this is a stupid thread because of the reasons you mentioned. Iguchi you can not look into numbers, the guy has been absolutely magnificent, him and omar vizquel are the best number 2 hitters in baseball, period.
  10. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) Gooch looks lost at the plat a lot. what is scaring me is he looks lost on D too. Far from awesome. Far from stupid. No, no I'll say it again it's a stupid thread. I can't even explain to you how much worse the offense would be without Iguchi this year. He f***ed up today on defense, the double error no doubt but overall he's been solid defensively, not to mention he turns the dp as good as anyone in baseball. This thread's dumb.
  11. Iguchi's been absolutely awesome this year. This thread's stupid.
  12. Does it look like it's going to rain tonight, if so a lot or just a bit?
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) These "worst threads ever" usually have some truth to them, so bite me. Yea, you're right. This is a bad thread. Phew, so I'm not banned?
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) This is not something new. We sleepwalk through a game getting 2-3 hit and then in the 8th or 9th we make this mad dash. Last year we did the same thing. After Jaret Wright shut us down for most of the game, Smoltz came in and then got thumped. What is this supposed to mean?? Are you saying this because of last nights game?? That's not the only game I'm talking about, there have been plenty of games where we've beaten up good relievers to tie, take the lead, or win games.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) We are going to face possible playoff oponents in the next 30 days. The Yanks, the bosox and the Angels with Vlad, and Baltimore. I dont worry about our pitching, I worry like crazy about our hitting. Why does everyone ignore that BA, OBP, Hits, K's, BB and where we stand as an offense but just repeat the montra that we score a lot of runs. However for the last few years scoring runs for a season stat was never a problem. It was consistancy and getting shut down by good pitching and bad pitching. Middle of the road pitching we killed. How come when we talk about good pitching we leave out relievers?? The sox have killed a lot of good relief pitching this year.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) Not surprising. Florida, it appears, cannot get the specific deal they want. Frankly I expect this to drag on for a few more days, I sense a bluff game is going on between the Marlins and the other teams wanting Burnett. It always heats up the last few days before the deadline, remember the Contreras-Loiaza thing came together the last few minutes, just under the wire. Kenny's holding his hand right now, he knows what he's willing to give up and it appears the Marlins are about to get desperate and if that happens I wouldn't be surprised at all if AJ winds up on the Sox.
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) We led in runs for the last few years. I thought we changed the offensive makeup of the team last year. I see low BA, lots of homers and a good amount of runs. I know I've heard this year that the sox don't score off mediocre pitchers, that they don't score off tough pitchers either, somehow I find that hard to believe. This team for the most part isn't going to put a 10 spot up but most of the time they'll score you atleast 4 runs and with this pitching that's good enough.
  18. Am I allowed to declare this the worst thread ever??
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Besides the most important stat. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Minus the most important number.
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) The only valid thing is the hitting concern. If anyone remembers in 2000, we had a much better hitting team as a whole but they froze up and couldnt hit a lick in the playoffs. Now we have a team that barely hits during the season. These guys have got to start hitting better. I hate Neyer as much as they next guy, but the numbers on offense are terrible. Besides the most important stat.
  21. QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) oh wow, you are going down
  22. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Patrick (Chicago): I know you're writing off the White Sox but would you at least give them a second look if they acquire Burnett or Schmidt? Rob Neyer: (3:00 PM ET ) Oh, a little bit, I guess. But the problem isn't the pitching; the White Sox can throw three solid starters at you in a postseason series. The problem is the hitting; they're sixth in the American League in scoring, and they're in real danger of falling a couple of notches below that. Plus, have you seen their record when not playing other AL Central teams? It's 31-24, which is fine but far from special. 31 and 24 is still almost as good as the Red Sox and Yankees. Secondly, what the hell the al central is a good division now and you can just throw divisional records out the window? EDIT: Meh, whatever though, the media can think what they want, the sox just have to prove them wrong on the field and they will........
  23. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Unless he comes back from injury soon, they might as well start him in BHam next year and see what he can do repeating a level after skipping W-S... Charlotte is all well and good, but it has a tendency to make guys play away from their strengths, IMO... That definitely makes sense, I could see for a hitter how'd it would benefit to stay in bham.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) I was just teasing, beck. I'm sure you could dig up a lot of dumb stuff/predictions that I said/made in the offseason... I'm sure we can find something dumb that everyone said in the offseason.
