  1. Iguchi's been absolutely awesome this year. This thread's stupid.
  2. Does it look like it's going to rain tonight, if so a lot or just a bit?

    QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) These "worst threads ever" usually have some truth to them, so bite me. Yea, you're right. This is a bad thread. Phew, so I'm not banned?
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) This is not something new. We sleepwalk through a game getting 2-3 hit and then in the 8th or 9th we make this mad dash. Last year we did the same thing. After Jaret Wright shut us down for most of the game, Smoltz came in and then got thumped. What is this supposed to mean?? Are you saying this because of last nights game?? That's not the only game I'm talking about, there have been plenty of games where we've beaten up good relievers to tie, take the lead, or win games.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) We are going to face possible playoff oponents in the next 30 days. The Yanks, the bosox and the Angels with Vlad, and Baltimore. I dont worry about our pitching, I worry like crazy about our hitting. Why does everyone ignore that BA, OBP, Hits, K's, BB and where we stand as an offense but just repeat the montra that we score a lot of runs. However for the last few years scoring runs for a season stat was never a problem. It was consistancy and getting shut down by good pitching and bad pitching. Middle of the road pitching we killed. How come when we talk about good pitching we leave out relievers?? The sox have killed a lot of good relief pitching this year.
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) Not surprising. Florida, it appears, cannot get the specific deal they want. Frankly I expect this to drag on for a few more days, I sense a bluff game is going on between the Marlins and the other teams wanting Burnett. It always heats up the last few days before the deadline, remember the Contreras-Loiaza thing came together the last few minutes, just under the wire. Kenny's holding his hand right now, he knows what he's willing to give up and it appears the Marlins are about to get desperate and if that happens I wouldn't be surprised at all if AJ winds up on the Sox.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) We led in runs for the last few years. I thought we changed the offensive makeup of the team last year. I see low BA, lots of homers and a good amount of runs. I know I've heard this year that the sox don't score off mediocre pitchers, that they don't score off tough pitchers either, somehow I find that hard to believe. This team for the most part isn't going to put a 10 spot up but most of the time they'll score you atleast 4 runs and with this pitching that's good enough.

    Am I allowed to declare this the worst thread ever??
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Besides the most important stat. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Minus the most important number.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) The only valid thing is the hitting concern. If anyone remembers in 2000, we had a much better hitting team as a whole but they froze up and couldnt hit a lick in the playoffs. Now we have a team that barely hits during the season. These guys have got to start hitting better. I hate Neyer as much as they next guy, but the numbers on offense are terrible. Besides the most important stat.
  11. QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) oh wow, you are going down
  12. Eew, who talks to tmar?
  13. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Patrick (Chicago): I know you're writing off the White Sox but would you at least give them a second look if they acquire Burnett or Schmidt? Rob Neyer: (3:00 PM ET ) Oh, a little bit, I guess. But the problem isn't the pitching; the White Sox can throw three solid starters at you in a postseason series. The problem is the hitting; they're sixth in the American League in scoring, and they're in real danger of falling a couple of notches below that. Plus, have you seen their record when not playing other AL Central teams? It's 31-24, which is fine but far from special. 31 and 24 is still almost as good as the Red Sox and Yankees. Secondly, what the hell the al central is a good division now and you can just throw divisional records out the window? EDIT: Meh, whatever though, the media can think what they want, the sox just have to prove them wrong on the field and they will........
  14. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Unless he comes back from injury soon, they might as well start him in BHam next year and see what he can do repeating a level after skipping W-S... Charlotte is all well and good, but it has a tendency to make guys play away from their strengths, IMO... That definitely makes sense, I could see for a hitter how'd it would benefit to stay in bham.
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) I was just teasing, beck. I'm sure you could dig up a lot of dumb stuff/predictions that I said/made in the offseason... I'm sure we can find something dumb that everyone said in the offseason.
  16. I'm interested to see Young's power numbers next year when he's at Charlotte
  17. The cubs trainer said this is the same thing that had him out earlier in the year. It's tightness, the guy has to play through this, he's a pussy. Like fathom said everytime he has a bad game all the sudden his shoulder hurts. The cubs keep saying they want to be careful with him, then he comes back and gets the same thing, they should just make him pitch through it.

    QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) He seemed to excel in the 2 slot last year. We also didn't have a very good leadoff hitter last year and he didn't have to move anyone over. Just cause his numbers get better doesn't mean it's better for the team.

    QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Aaron Rowand is not a 2 hitter. He can't bunt, and he doesn't have a swing to move runners over. He also doesn't hit well down in the count, and doesn't have the patience to take as many pitches as you need with Pods on base. Rowand in the two hole is not a good idea. I completely agree, plus the fact there's no f'n reason to mess with the 1-2 in this lineup, arguably they've been the best 1-2 combo in baseball and it just wouldn't be smart to mess with it.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) I like him, but again, as you said there is no where to put him. He doesn't like playing SS(he refused to in Texas and that's why Michael Young was moved to SS) and Tadahito can't anymore from what I hear. Plus the fact, he's a butcher defensively, strikes out a ton, doesn't walk. He's just not worth it even if there was somewhere to put him.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Podsednik pwns him clement. So does Buehrle.
  22. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) Agreed, any right hander that has a good arm is not a good match up for rowand ( main reason he should not bat third against righties... he is too overmatched at this point. With Clement's slider he'd have a tough time, he has a hellatious time laying off a good down and away breaking ball, with that late breaking slider Matt has in his arsenal it could be ugly for Aaron. Watch, now he'll start and kill Clement, I sure hope so.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Huh!?!? What the hell happened to Jon? He's pitching tomorrow.
  24. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) I guess rowand does not have an at-bat against him... which seems odd. Podsednik pwns him clement. Interesting. Like I said Clement seems like a guy that would own Aaron, if Row is going to get a day off soon, today seems like the day to do it, imo.
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Uhh as much as I love the Sox and all, going to Sunday's game is gonna blow ass. I get to see slow-ass no-confidence himself, the great Jose Contreras. Uhhh. At least I get to see Bronson Arroyo! Anyways, aside from my sulking, I think the WHITE Sox are gonna have an awesome series. We gotta get ahead of these guys early and often. RIP EM Jon! Mark's pitching.
