  1. You know what's sad? Every time I hear how great of a person an athlete is I expect to hear the next day that said person did something awful.
  2. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) Hey man, Cleveland is a lock for the ECFs, don't you know that? They absolutely are. You seem to be changing your tune every 2 game winning or losing streak that they have. They'll be absolutely fine in April.
  3. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) I absolutely hate Gillaspie in the 3 hole. If we acquire a much better hitter to fill that spot then I will feel much better. I'm sure Abreu and Laroche will be the 3-4 with the players we currently have.
  4. And this is just me throwing s*** out there but I think you might see Rick try and get a stud defensive of more so than a Melky type now that we have Laroche on board. Just a guess. EDIT: and I have no clue who that guy would be before anyone asks.
  5. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) Ummm.....Brandon McCarthy. Why? I have no idea I'm actually going to go with this.
  6. Laroche is clearly a "good" left handed bat, saying otherwise is just silly. We needed a middle of the order hitter that could hit righties and that's exactly what Laroche does. So we got a middle of the order bat that can mash righties with out sinking too much money into said hole, how perfect. And we still have a lot of money to play with, Rick knows what he's doing.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 07:03 PM) The first 2 moves of the offseason kinda make it feel like the Sox want to compete next year. Absolutely.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) Who's back up PG tonight? Or Brooks playing 48? Noah.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) Great article. I thought this quote stood out and was very interesting. In theory, the Sox often do this and I guess we'll see how Davidson / Johnson handle it but we also will see how long-term Hawkins is able to grow from his aggressive assignment 2 years ago (he rebounded decently last year but still has areas to fix). I've always felt this way and always will.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) Maybe he "Shouldn't be", but he is in decline. I do classify them as declining if they are declining, which he is. Clown trades like that are a prime reason why the Sox have 3 playoff appearances in 15 years despite a top 1/3 payroll under Williams' watch. The second we have a decent prospect, got to move them. You guys want to pay top dollar for players off of bad years. It's like giving our top 2 pitching prospects for Edwin Jackson and his 5+ ERA. We can't fill our whole roster with 5-6 year cost controlled guys, just not possible. And one bad year does not mean he's declining, it means he had one bad year.
  11. Love the idea of Bruce but definitely not for Q.
  12. I'd think we'll start Marcus/Micah in the 2 hole and then change it up if they happen to fail.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) We can't forget that, as promising as these guys are, there's a VERY good chance that all three of Beck, Danish, and Montas end up as relievers. The latter two, especially, traditonally profile much better in those roles. Not saying we should give up on them, but they aren't the type of guys, IMO, that we avoid long-term SP acquisitions for to avoid blocking them. I really don't think Danish profiles well to a reliever at all. I can definitely see that with Montas, but completely disagree on Danish.
  14. Ya I'd like to keep Phegley around. Not that I think he ever amounts to much but I'd like to have him around as an emergency call up if one of our catchers breaks themselves.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) What are you one of those hipsters? Just a Russell Westbrook fan.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) Who is Wilkins blocking at the moment that people want him DFA'd and gone so badly? Konerko.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) It wouldn't shock me to see Carroll as the White Sox long man next year. That's actually a good use of a roster spot imo.
  18. He wore glasses while he pitched, not a lot of pitchers do that so that's cool.
  19. Sounds like the exact type of guy the Sox would go after.
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) But see, I think it illustrates the difference between Duke and Miller/Robertson. Keppinger got released and we don't even really FEEL his financial burden. He was slightly less likely to succeed than Dunn was, but when they both failed so hard, we had to live with the consequences of the latter, but were able to simply wipe our hands of the former. For a team with a $90-100m payroll, tying up 10-15% in a black hole RP spot is a big deal. Tying up 5% is much, much easier to swallow. I think the gap in expected performance between Duke and Miller/Robertson is much smaller, proportionately, than the gap in cost. I agree with all of this.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) So started this Whole 30 diet with the wife on Sunday...meat, vegetables, fruits, and some nuts, that's it. So how'd this go Shack? I'm still sticking to a modified version of it and I'm liking the results overall.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) I keep seeing that but I really think it's very very unlikely. Semien yes Conor no. Just think he's too invested at 3rd base and not enough foot speed for it to be a viable option. I probably should have added if we decide to upgrade at 3b. Obviously it doesn't make a ton of sense to try him out there if he's our starting 3b, my bad ha.
