2006 Sox = 2003 Sox?
When exactly were the 03 sox 25 games over .500. Lets state some more similarities, for most of the first half of 03 the offense absolutely stunk and couldn't get anything done, same with the 06 sox I guess......oh. Next, this was the time period where our 5 starters couldn't win a game to save their lives, the 06 Sox have 9 wins from their 5 starter. This team has problems that it needs to work out and this very well might have been the most frusterating game I've ever been to but this comparison is absolutely awful.

Anyone wanna be BMacs friend?
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) I'm behind the plate after the game today and this lady comes up to me and says "can i take a picture of your jersey?" Somewhat confused, i say sure...Steff says "Are you Brandon's mom?" "Yes" Her and what must have been his aunt take pictures of my jersey, saying it's the first one they've seen, and they were quite impressed. I felt like a celebrity. Brandon's mom was very nice and says she reads here sometimes...she recognized "steff" from the board, which gave us a laugh. She also thought i was her son, which gave us another laugh. Anyway, the McCarthy's were very nice people, kind of cool to meet them in that fashion. This never happened you liar.

Recruiting Thread
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) Looks as of Gordon is at least going to give IU a visit. From Sports Illustrated: That's pretty interesting.

Red Sox @ White Sox - July 8
Freddy's era is actually higher during the day this year. Another interesting stat is that his era is almost a whole run lower at home this year.

Red Sox @ White Sox - July 8
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) For the stat guys ... isn't Freddy Garcia generally a better pitcher during day games, I thought I'd heard or read that. It's not something I keep track of but it may come into play today? Last year he was just dominant during the day, not sure about this year though.

I have had enough with Chris Widger
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) I can't remember off hand but I'm pretty sure it was lower than Pierzynski's, the roles have reversed this year and it makes no absolutely sense. I also recall it being lower than Aj's. Like you said, doesn't make much sense.

I have had enough with Chris Widger
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 08:16 AM) Actually I'm pretty sure Garcia is better when Widger catches him. Gotcha. Do you know what his cera was from last year? Like I said before, I find it really hard to believe that all of the sudden he just forgot how to call a game.

Red Sox @ White Sox - July 8
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 07:53 AM) His defense doesn't bother me that much. That probably has to do with the fact that, a few days ago, he acknowledged his failures and said he was frustrated with himself over it, and said, "I've been playing like horses***" or something relating to fecal matter. If he weren't trying to fix it and work on it, I'd be angrier with him. I do get frustrated when he errs, but not enough to want him gone or call him a bad player. Maybe because he's such a "sexy ass", since that's the only reason to want Pods on your team. I respect for Pods for admitting he's been awful out there, however that's just not good enough. It's nice that he knows it but he has to improve, he's seriously just horrendous out there and it's frusterating as all hell. Then when you factor in the guys speed and realize he's one of the worst left fielders in baseball it becomes even more irritating.

AAP: Wes Whisler
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 07:37 AM) He's been real good for the past 2 months or so. It may be a long winding road, but the potential is still there for everyone to see with those 4 pitches he can throw. Yup. He's definitely someone you're going to have to be patient with considering how raw he is. It is very nice to see him improving though and hopefully it's the start of good things to come from Wes.

Red Sox @ White Sox - July 8
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 07:23 AM) When Podsednik is on a roll, he is genuinely our ignitor. He gets on base, scares the hell out of pitchers, and steals. He works the count better than anyone on our team except Thome -- although, yes, he does strike out looking a lot, too. I'm not sure why he isn't stealing as much as before, but I wonder what kind of calls he's been getting from Ozzie in-game. Maybe Ozzie isn't letting him steal as much, or asking him not to because of an increases confidence in our offense. I don't know. Right now, he's not doing so hot, although his batting average has been up in the last few weeks. He's been, obviously, a streaking player all year. Bad, good, bad good. I for one am not willing to give up on him, or go after him, partially because I think he does a very good job getting on-base, and partially because the talent is there for him to steal sixty or so bases and cause all the havoc in the world during a game. When talking about last year's team, KW once said that a lot of the players we had acquired would not have been acquirable if they had been off of good years instead of bad ones. I know Pods was one of the players he referenced with that. AJ, too. But, hell, I don't think Scotty's year has been too bad this year. Not at all. -------- I have a feeling that, today, we're going to come out blasting away at the Red Sox. Like the Baltimore series. Pods has the green light all the time, I'll guarantee you that. Ever since the injury last year he just hasn't been able to get the same jumps as he used to. I think he's realized that and has slowed himself down a bit. To be honest, I have no problem with Scott's offense like most here, I just can't stand his defense.

I have had enough with Chris Widger
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:30 AM) How come Widge caught good games last year and this year everytime he's behind the plate, the pitcher gets shelled? Should we blaim the pitchers or him? Is he really calling that bad of a game? It's interesting, because iirc his cera last year was pretty solid and that doesn't seem to be something you would just all the sudden get much worse at over the course of a year. That being said, it also can't be a coincidence that all of our pitchers have pitched worse with him behind the plate.

AAP: Wes Whisler
Been a while since I updated this so... thought this would be a good time. Wes, after getting off to a rough start has really settled down and has been very solid over his last several starts. Overall line this year: 3.34 era on 91 hits. He also has 50 k's and 41 walks in 99.2 innings pitched.

Which are worse?
Moved this to the diamond club since it isn't Sox related. By the way, Sawx fans are worse imo.

Those Obnoxious Boston Fans
Can't stand Red Sox fans and can't stand that team, I hate their fans and team more than any other in baseball. Yes, even more than those on the northside.

Red Sox @ White Sox - July 8
Freddy has this tomorrow, he's going to pitch well. I'm with ace on this one as well, I was not happy to see Brian pulled in the 7th today, he's absolutely killing the ball the last two days.

JD in the HR Derby
QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) I'm not saying he is a greedy bastage...I love JD, I just think the White Sox will start to look at Sweeney or even possibly Fields next year, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. With the numbers JD is putting up, he's not going anywhere with a 6 million dollar option.

Best Hawk Call of '06?
Probably the Mack game as of now. A lot of our real late come back wins that he would have went psychotic during were on national tv, so we've probably missed some of the best calls this year. The AJ homer, the Iguchi come back, the Crede granny against Houston, the 11th inning come back against the tribe were all on national tv.

JD in the HR Derby
QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) This will not mess JD's swing up.... he wants to get his paper from the Yanks next year, he will continue to have a torrid second half. Good try, he's got a team option for next season.

Hermanson could be back by the end of the month...
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) So who gets sent where in the meantime? Well I meant see Dustin perform a while in the minors. Basically, I don't expect him to just have a few appearances down there, I think you might see him in Charlotte for a few weeks. I'm sure Kenny is going to want to see him pitch in Charlotte as well. If he likes what he sees then maybe he'll be up quicker. Who knows but that's jmo.

Hermanson could be back by the end of the month...
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) I wonder if we will see Politte dropped for Hermanson if the back holds up for Dustin? I would think so but I think the Sox are going to have to see Dustin perform for a little while before they make a decision like that.

I'm pretty much done with Javier Vazquez.
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) There are a lot of pitchers that could go 9-4 with 133 runs of support in 17 starts. This is true and he's avoided more losses because of the run support. That being said, he's only allowed more than 3 runs in one of his wins. So his wins for the most part have been well earned.

Hermanson could be back by the end of the month...
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) According to a fan on another Sox site: Hermanson pitched an inning for Charlotte last night. 12 pitches, 8 strikes. 1 ground ball, two fly balls, no walks. It's a start. Correct. He still has a ways to go but like you said it's a start and it's nice to see him out there again.
