MVP Baseball 2005
I'm about to win the WS with the Sox. I'll go to All-Star after that. I win consistently on Pro, but not without a lot of close games. Up 3 games to none on the Red Sox in the ALCS right now. Barons and Warthogs are also on the verge of winning their respective championships. Charlotte missed the playoffs by three games.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 19, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) On another note, I've never seen a player whine as much as Morrison did today. He had 1 freaking foul called on him the entire game and he was whining about that one throwing his arms up in the air. I used to respect him as a player when they compared him to Larry Bird, Larry Bird he is not. I didn't interpret that as whining at all. He didn't look like he was throwing his arms up in protest to me, but making some kind of gesture toward the bench. Most players when they protest a call hold their arms up with their hands open simulating how they thought they were playing defense. Morrison had his hands closed fisted and didn't give me the impression that it was about the call at all, after the first second or two. At least that's the way I saw it..... And nobody is Larry Bird. Morrison is a helluva player though.

QUOTE(Be Good @ Mar 19, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) The orangemen upset by Vermont, I had them winning the tourney. I can rip up my bracket now!!!!! Isn't March Madness great!!! When the upsets start rolling in, I find myself not giving a crap about my bracket, and rooting for the little guys. Hell, in one bracket, I had Syracuse and Kansas both in the regional final.

Another thing I don't like is that the Owner mode does not allow for September callups.
-
MVP Baseball 2005
One thing I noticed when simming games in owner mode is they do not have the use of the DH correct in the Minor Leagues. They use the DH when in a NL affiliate city, yet in the Minors, if an AL affiliate is playing home or road, there is no DH.

Should/Will Mike Davis be back?
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) How is Spring Break not a legite excuse? It's the NIT. I don't know how you get players up for a game like that, let a lone the fans. The students aren't even allowed back on campus until Sunday at 8 am. That's keeping a lot of buyers out of the city. I would've gone, had I been in Bloomington. Also, it still will cost a bit. We'd be paying the rest of DiNardo and Davis' contracts. The current football coach's contract, and I don't even want to know what it will cost to get a coach that will get the "boosters" etc. to be happy with. Because last night's crowd was more than 2,000 less than any other crowd EVER in Assembly Hall. We aren't talking about a small crowd like during Christmas Break, we are talking about the lowest EVER by A LOT. Hell, they had over 7,000 in 1999 when an ice storm shut that part of the midwest down. No, Spring Break is NOT an excuse for a crowd THAT bad. A serious lack of interest by fans is the reason. You can't tell me that it is not a sign of the program being way down when only 5,000 people will pay to see IU basketball in Bloomington. s***, there should have been 5,000 people who can't normally get tickets show up last night, but the interest just isn't there. Just out of curiosity, how many students attend a normal, sold out IU home game?

Should/Will Mike Davis be back?
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) I hate to sound like an elitist s***bag, which I'm actually trying not to come off as here (amazing!), but I know a lot of people on the Union Board and we're broke when it comes to sports stuff this year. Could we fire Davis next year? Sure, but as of this year, and this year only, IU has lost any money to buy out Davis because they fired DiNardo. Let's do the math....... If they fire Davis this year, they will owe him approx. $750,000. If they wait until next year, they will pay him his $250,000 (approx) salary, plus a $300,000 bonus just for being the Head Coach on July 1. So they will pay him $550,000 and still owe him about a half million if they buy him out next year. The math doesn't add up. It is actually cheaper for them to cut him loose this year than to wait a year. Now I am not saying he should be fired for sure, just that the "one more year/chance" mentality and the "lack of $$" excuse won't wash when it comes down to it. $750,000 doesn't seem like so much when staring at an all-time attendance low at Assembly Hall last night. Last night's low was more than 2000 fans below the previous low in 1999 when fans couldn't make it because of an ice storm. Spring Break is not a legitimate excuse. My guess is that contributions are down as well, although that is just speculation. In theory, it could be argued that IU cannot afford to gamble by keeping him.

Harsh criticism from Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star, who usually writes pro-IU fluff pieces.. Davis has lost all margin for error

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) I personally have a hard time about getting mad over tonight. It's the NIT. I can't get excited over that at all. Even if we won the thing, I don't know how happy that would make me. It's not that it is the NIT....... it is the fact that we lost to Vanderbilt at home. They didn't come to compete and that is sad. They still charged fans money for their tickets.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) He's only back on the UNC bandwagon because how much hell we give him for his Duke bias. Although it wasn't much better when he was obsessed with Dean Smith calling him "Michaelangelo". Vitale is the ultimate bandwagoner, and he's latched on tight to K's ass. I don't have a big problem with his picks, he just picked 3 #1 seeds and a 2 seed, I can see all of them making it, I just don't agree with Duke over Syracuse. By the way, I can't stand his color commentary anymore. He used to be informative with recruits etc, now he's just BABY this and PTP'er that, doesn't add a thing to the games. He does however wear out alot of mute buttons. I think what Vitale does best is promote the overall game of college basketball. I have no doubt that his enthusiasm is for real. But he is no longer a great analyst. The "cheerleading" has just gone too far and I don't feel he really offers very much good information as an Analyst. I think he is good for the game overall, but more in an entertainment/promotional aspect than a serious analyst. I just think he has taken his persona over the top to the detriment of his ability as an analyst.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Very solid defensively, especially on the perimeter. And how did they get hosed you ask, Rex? They are 29-4, won their conference and conference tournament, are ranked #4 in BOTH polls and have an RPI of 12, in their last 19 games, they are 18-1, now how does that compute to being a 4 seed. One more thing to consider, average scoring margin this season in the NCAA: 1) UNC 18.5 points average margin 2) Louisville 18.0 points average margin 3) Illinois 17.3 points average margin That's some damn good company to be in if you ask me. At worst they should have been a 3 seed and they should have easily been a solid number two. Even Pitino himself agrees with that and he is not one to complain. I understand all of that and am not disagreeing with you. My comment was more targeted to the fact that for a four seed, they got a pretty good draw. They could have a tough 2nd round game, but I think they would be in a very good position to beat Washington if Pacific/Pitt doesn't beat them to it. I do agree that Washington is weak as a #1 seed. I looked at their schedule and they have 0 quality road wins that I could find. They lost at UCLA, they lost at Stanford, they lost at Arizona, at Gonzaga and even at Oregon St. Their quality wins were Utah, Oklahoma and Alabama on a neutral court basically a week into the season, and Arizona at home and in the Pac 10 tourney. They did beat Stanford, UCLA and NC State but all at home. While Utah, Oklahoma and Alabama were all good wins, but a team that returns all five starters from the season before should have an advantage that early in the season. They beat Alabama by 3 points while Alabama was breaking in a freshman point guard. Factor those things in, I just don't see them as a #1 seed either.

I only saw the first 10 minutes or so of the IU-Vandy game tonight and the last 12 seconds, so I can't really comment on the whole game, but Vandy was putting on a freakin Princeton offense clinic in the first half. They were so good I found myself appreciating, if not applauding some of their plays. They backcut IU to death and I am only talking about the first 10 minutes! IU's defense reminded me of when Northwestern dissected them in the first game of the Big Ten season. I am very disappointed the season ended this way. As an IU fan I am just not sure what to say or where to go. I know this wasn't the most experienced team, but I expected a better effort from them in the past two games.

How is Louisville's defense? I think UofL can score with Wake, but they'd have a better shot if they can D up and make Wake work harder for their points. Wake doesn't play much D, so I think Louisville's D could be the difference.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) The Ville got hosed majorly. How did they get hosed? Would you rather them be a 3-seed and have to face Wake Forest or Washington in the Elite 8? Granted their 2nd round game is tougher than Gonzaga's, but I like their long run chances better where they are.

QUOTE(shagar69 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) IMO bamas gone in the 1st round. but should they make it out, no way they can beat BC I disagree. Bama's starting 5 is about as good as it gets. There are few teams better. I think UWM may give them a run for their money, but I think either Bama or UWM will beat BC.

Should/Will Mike Davis be back?
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) I honestly think he's just getting started. I'm excited for next year. I just hope that the outcome of the season is satisfactory enough that a lot of the doubters will stop talking and we can finally erase that 5-year interim label. I like where this team is headed right now. With the exception of the Minnesota game in the BTT, this team has started to go in the right direction. If we build on that, and we should, Indiana will be back on the map. We're going to have a lot of scholarships for the 06-07 season. I just think we're starting to get back on the right track, and we'll stay there. greasy you know my feelings...... If they believe he is the long term answer, then I say go for it and keep him. I am not there everyday like the AD. I don't see what goes on behind the scenes, how things are run. My only problem will be if they go the "let's give him one more year" approach. In my mind, they need to decide before they pay out that $300k bonus if he is their guy or not. Not just for this year, but for the long term. I will say that on the Sonny and Wimp Show this morning, Wimp made the comment that what he was hearing was that they better win tonight and that Davis job still could hinge on that. That may or may not be true, but these old coaches are pretty well connected and they are pro-Davis. They don't get into throwing a ton of rumors around, so when I do hear something, I have a tendency to believe they have good information. After losing to Minnesota like they did, if they fall flat on their faces at home tonight to Vandy, it would not surprise me that things could change. I am not saying it will, but it certainly would not surprise me.

Should/Will Mike Davis be back?
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) Davis will not be fired. IU is flat broke right now and can't afford to buy out the remainder of Davis's contract. I don't buy that argument. One could argue that if they aren't sure he is their coach for the next 3-5 years, then it would be smarter to fire him now. He is owed a half million dollars in bonuses over the next three years (including $300,000 this year) just for remaining as the head coach. So the $750k it would take to buy him out, will turn into $1.25 million if they keep him. The bottom line is...... Does the new administration truly believe he is the right coach at IU for the long haul? If they do and like how he runs the program, then they should keep him. If they question whether he is the right guy or not, why would they give him "one more chance" when it will cost them an extra $300,000 in addition to what they already have committed to him and then realize next year they need to make a change? The fact that the players might rebel or leave should not factor into it. The decision should be made based the long term interest of the program and not what would happen in the next year or two. So either Davis stays for the long term or he goes. All the other reasons such as money and player transfers SHOULD not come into play.

MVP Baseball 2005
I have an interesting mix right now..... I am in the 2006 season and have made some trades, picked up a free agent or two in the offseason. I am currently in 1st place not long after that All-Star Game..... Here is my lineup/roster: 1B Rafael Palmeiro (FA) 2B Tadahito Iguchi SS Juan Uribe 3B Andy Marte (Braves 4-star prospect got in trade) C A J Pierzynski or Miguel Olivo (FA) LF Scott Podsednik or Alexis Rios CF Rocco Baldelli RF Aaron Rowand DH Paul Konerko Bench 1B/DH Ross Gload 2B/OF Willie Harris SS/Util Jamey Carroll (FA from the Nationals) OF Alexis Rios C Miguel Olivo SP Freddy Garcia SP Mark Buehrle SP Brandon McCarthy (called up 2 or 3 starts ago due to injury) SP Jon Garland SP Mike Wood (FA from KC or Oak, can't remember) SP Felix Hernandez DL (5-star Seattle prospect got in trade) RP Chris Watson (fictional 5-star Braves prospect got in trade) RP Dustin Hermanson RP Jason Ginter (fictional 5-star White Sox prospect - was killing as AAA Closer) RP Chad Bradford (FA) RP Damaso Marte RP/CL Shingo Takatsu - given up only 1 run all season Crede got hurt and missed two months of the season, so I have him rehabbing in Charlotte. Marte is playing well and Crede is hitting crappy down there, so he may stay there. I also have a full stock of OF prospects in Sweeney, Anderson, Jeff Franceour (Braves) and Delmon Young (Devil Rays). A little overcrowded actually. I got Alexis Rios and Brandon League a AAA pitcher from the Blue Jays this year for Contreras and Dye, allowing me to dump salary, but not lose games.

Should/Will Mike Davis be back?
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Doesn't matter, he's back, confirmed, case closed. If he was fired, DJ White would transfer, along with Bracey Wright going pro and possibly a few other players transferring (maybe Vaden, because he came to IU simply because of MD) Those should not be reasons for keeping a head coach. It was that kind of thinking that caused them to hire him in the first place without a true search for a head coach.

Should/Will Mike Davis be back?
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) He's coming back. We'd lose a lot of personnel if Davis was fired, and we're going to be very good next year. I've gotten tired of all this talk about Davis' coaching status. Not on this board, but by the media. It really hurts the school a bit when Mike Davis has been the interim coach for 5 years... Just for discussion's sake............ What if they fall on their face and lose soundly to Vandy at home Wednesday night? COULD that change anything? It certainly couldn't help.
