  1. Looks as if the weather has taken a turn for the worse. There is now a Winter Storm Advisory issued beginning at 4pm Eastern time with snow and 10-20 mph winds. Snow accumulation is not expected until tonight, but it could begin before the end of the game. Temps are still expected to be in the low 30's, but the weather combined with a frozen field may make things tougher for the Colts. Either way, I expect a great game.
  2. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 04:04 AM) Um, IU has D.J. White for a few more years, that and Bracey Wright should be gone in one or two. We're optimistic here in Bloomington. I don't know too many Hoosier fans that are optimistic unless they are praying for the firing of Mike Davis, which will happen despite some miracle in the next month and a half.
  3. QUOTE(Elcaballo45 @ Jan 16, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Im thinking of putting some money on this game, but I dont know any bookies (how do you spell that). Anyway, anyone know any good online betting sites. I would think the Pats would be favored by 3 or so in this game, and I would love to take Indy and those 3 points. I don't gamble much, but I have used betonsports.com. Pats are favored by 1 1/2 last I saw.
  4. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) IU is going to dominate this series for a long time to come. wow, sounds like a Purdue fan is more pessimistic than IU fans are right now. Didn't think that was possible!
  5. What a game. Two s***ty teams found a way to make things interesting. All I can say is wow.
  6. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) I love how everyone is forgetting the fact that New England's backup corners are just as good as Indy's starting corners. Problem is NE's corners aren't defending Indy's corners. Indy's corners could never defend Indy's offense/receivers, so I am not sure how your point is pro-New England?
  7. 2-1 after 4 1/2 minutes? Are they playing first team to 10 wins? Both of these teams are pathetic. I hate that I have to watch this.. sigh.......
  8. s***, I gotta go...... I thought the game started at noon, my time.
  9. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) Its really tough for me to bring myself to watch any NC State games, they are just horrible to watch. Also, lucky me, I'm stuck with watching Oklahoma State vs Iowa State instead of UNC-Wake Forest tomorrow. Who wants to watch two top 5 teams battle anyways Here is a nice article on comparing Illinois to UNC. http://illinois.scout.com/2/341710.html How is UNC and Wake Forest not on national TV? And why does it have to be on at the same time (roughly) as the IU-Purdue game?
  10. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 03:52 AM) I'm pretty syked for the IU vs PU game tommarow Just think about how the legions of IU fans will react if they lose at Purdue this year? The only thing that could be worse for Davis would be losing to Purdue at home, losing to Penn St. or losing to Northwest.... umm, things don't look good, do they?
  11. greasy, I finally ran into one of the fans you speak of that still think Knight can do no wrong. The guy is from Terre Haute (what a lovely town by the way). He kept going on and on about how they never should have fired Knight and how Myles Brand was evil. Kept talking about how great he is doing at Texas Tech and how he'd still have the Hoosiers competing in the tournament every year. I wanted to puke, but I was standing next to his girlfriend and I don't think she would have appreciated it.
  12. Wasn't he released?
  13. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) New England. A rainy, cold, slop of a field...the edge has gotta go to the Pats. SATURDAY: Mostly sunny in the morning...then becoming partly cloudy. Much colder with highs in the mid 30s. Northwest winds around 5 mph. SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows around 20. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs around 30. North winds 5 to 10 mph. SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A chance of flurries in the evening... then snow showers likely after midnight. Light snow accumulations possible. Lows around 20. No rain or slop seems imminent. Indy can handle 30 degrees. I think this is their time.
  14. Prepare for the ultimate Wisconsin cop story....... This is 100% true, I swear! On Easter weekend in 1987 I went home with a buddy on the baseball team that lived in Antioch, IL. He was playing in a softball tournament at some honky tonk bar not far across the state line in Wisconsin. After the tournament, we had a few beers (I was 19 and had just beaten the deadline to be grandfathered in when they changed the drinking age), but nothing crazy. Neither of us were near drunk. We decided to head back, but there was one more bar on the way back he wanted to stop at to see if someone was there. The bar was on the left and was not far from the state line, if I recall. It had gotten dark and it was really foggy out. We saw the bar and the wooden post indicating the entrance so we turned in. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the first post and turned after the 2nd one, which landed us in a shallow ditch. It was deep enough that we couldn't get out. Being that we were both young and stupid, we were worried a cop would come by and since we had been drinking some, think drunkenness was the reason for our situation. I swear it was so foggy out that you couldn't see 15 feet in front of you. My friend immediately put a dip in and went inside to see if there was someone inside that had chains and a truck (well, almost everybody in there had a truck) and would pull us out. It took awhile, but he finally found someone and they came out to help. They hooked up chains and pulled us out of the ditch. Of course, the obvious happened and a sherrif's deputy pulled up right as we were finishing up. He asked what was going on and we told him. Keep in mind about 45 minutes had passed and neither of us had drank anything in that time. The deputy questioned my friend a long time, then me and we both told him the same thing. He got my buddies license and went back to his car. After about 10 minutes, he came up to the window and told us we needed to be more careful, but he had no choice to give us a ticket. He then proceeded to hand a ticket to my friend. There were two kickers to the end of this story. One, he made us pay cash for the ticket since he had Illinois plates. Said we couldn't mail it in. Then he told us that he could not accept money on the scene and that we had to pay it at the Kenosha County Sherrif's Dept. He made us follow him about 45 minutes to the Sherrif's dept. and pay it there, which we did. The real kicker to this story is that the cause or reason for the ticket. Printed neatly on the ticket next to reason was WINDSHIELD NOT PROPERLY CLEANED! True story. Sad, but true. We thought it was bulls***, but we were young and weren't going to get into a pissing match with a cop after we had been drinking some. Even though it made no sense that if he thought we had been drinking, he would have us drive 45 minutes the opposite way (and back). Still, we kept our mouths shut and ponied up somewhere around $65-$70 for the ticket, but we did get a story to tell!

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) Clemson -- Warm weather, baseball, the south. Kansas State -- Manhattan (no not that one), ..., ..., uh yeah I can't think of any reason to go there. Don't forget to add Southern women! Adding to the baseball suggestion..... There are tons of Minor League teams within a reasonable drive from Clemson and Atlanta is not far either (less than 2 hrs, if I recall correctly).
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) So essentially he's back on the market, correct? Must have already cleared waivers if he was outrighted. Still property of the Rangers at this point.
  17. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 03:42 AM) I feel better about that. I like Alford, but I don't understand if he'd do anything better than Davis or not. I know it'd calm some of the IU nation down having an IU guy at the helm. However, what if he didn't do well? That'd just taint what he did at IU as a player. I think Majerus would be solid here. I did read the Q&A section from yesterday and spotted that little blip. That's the whole thing that scares me about firing Davis. IU's already in the red as it is, and his contract goes through '07-08. Athletic departments in the red is like national budget. A decade of debt won't kill anyone!
  18. greasy, that if Davis gets fired, which will happen if things continue as they have been the rest of the season, Rick Majerus is the odds on favorite to take over, with Kevin Stallings as a possible 2nd option. Lots could change of course, but apparently that is what is being said behind the college basketball scene. Also, did you see the article on his contract in the Indy Star? If he is fired, he will be owed something like $700k. The potentially unfortunate kink in the picture for him is that he has signing bonuses written into his contract if he is still the head coach each July 1. This year happens to be the largest of those bonuses in the whole contract at $300,000.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) Ya, but I'm willing to guess in the hot chick ratio department, Fullerton ranks up with the SEC schools However I will say this, Fullerton can't touch them in that department in regards to football games Trust me, that ratio better be pretty damned high. lol The best thing about the SEC is the conference tournament. It is a major event. Last year, they started selling RV spaces in the RV lot, the day after Memorial Day. They sold them out (160 RV's) in less than 3 hours. You can walk around in the RV park and people are just out there having a great time. Talk to them and next thing you know they are feeding you and offering you beers. LSU fans cook the best food and generally have the most beer, but they all hold their own. The RV's will start to show up 3 days before the tournament starts and they party their asses off. They average 8,000 to 10,000 a game for the tournament. Oh, and did I mention the "scenery"? lol
  20. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) I'm ready....my South Carolina boys are preseason #8 already, having finished with the 2nd most wins in College baseball last year I believe. We have a few holes to fill though, namely Landon Powells presence behind the plate. Considering we took the eventual CWS champ to 3 games in our bracket (CSF), I feel good about the state of the program. Look out for the Gamecocks again in 2005!! Question for Capn or tray...... do either of you know the name of the old guy from SC that always wears the hardhat and suspenders? He gave me a card last year at the SEC Tournament but I can't find it. That guy is awesome. I look forward to seeing him every year for the tournament.

The Marine Biologist was on tonight. That may just be my favorite episode of them all.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 02:18 AM) im going to ask again who plays 1B for the Barons next year this dude or rogo... i know rogo played some OF last year but id assume 1st is his natural position and if he has the most upside and with Konerko possibly gone after this year id really like to see him play some 1st. Who knows? Could be a combination of the two. The bottom line is this no more than a filler acquisition as Cerb mentioned. The Sox got the Brewers 3rd best 1B prospect. He never played a full season until last year. He had to have played some OF because he got enough AB's in 2002 (269) and 2003 (372) playing behind Brad Nelson and Prince Fielder. He will go from hitting with power in a great hitter's park to hitting in one of the worst hitter's parks in minor leagues. Fair comparisons: Brian Becker, Aaron McNeal and Daylan Holt Remember Holt was acquired from the A's for his power potential and last all of one week in AA before being sent back to Winston-Salem, never to return to AA. This guy will likely last longer in AA (if he makes it there out of ST) but I'd say the comparison could be made. If he plays a full season in Birmingham, expect something like: .255 with 15 HR and 66 RBI.
  23. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) That's alot, for a college game. Then again, it is Fullerton. Is the atmosphere comparable to something along the lines of an Illinois basketball game? Actually it is not a lot for a college game. The SEC and Big 12 draw much bigger crowds. LSU averaged just under 7500 last year, which is a pretty normal year for them. Mississippi State averaged 6400. In a down year on the field, Alabama averaged 4400. Here are the attendance statistics for top 50 teams in the NCAA last year. Note the SEC has 7 of the top 12 and many of the Big 12 teams are ranked high as well. NCAA Baseball Division I Attendance Leaguers - 2004
  24. How good is Meet the Fockers? I haven't seen it yet? Did Ocean's 12 ever break the top 5? I figured it would still be up there. Guess I am somewhat surprised.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Yep...its a blast getting to go to the games for free as a student. You can basically sit anywhere but the season ticket spots. And there are always seats open behind home. So how many people do they draw for a game?
