Wunsch clears waivers
$800k is nothing (actually it is much less than that now that we are two months into the season) for a team that sees value in him. Your scenario doesn't work, because if a team really thought he was worth something, they wouldn't take the chance some other team would claim him. And if they did want to pick him up later, it would cost them a player because they would have to trade for him. A team cannot think as you suggested if they really think a player can help them, because they are competing against 28 other teams for that player on the waiver wire.

Wunsch clears waivers
Brando, if Wunsch is so good, why did every other team pass on him? Seems like SOMEBODY could use a quality lefty out of the bullpen.... if he were that good.

Wunsch clears waivers
Danny Wright can be put on the 60-day DL at anytime (which does not count against the 40-man roster), so I don't think this is necessarily a precursor to something definite. I think it just gives them more flexibility. I guess they tried to trade him to no avail.

Mike Morse
He is on pace to strike out 100+ times and walk only 35 times or so. So yes, plate discipline is his main weakness at the plate right now. He also gets him out sometimes by swinging at bad pitches.

Joe Borchard
When you comin to Bham, MSF?

6/4 games
KW talks out the both sides of his mouth..... sometimes at the same time! lol

Mike Morse
Morse looks good..... He is 6'4 aabout 220, so he is a big guy for SS. He handles the position pretty well. Eventually he could move to third, but I don't see that as an immediate concern. I will hold judgement for now about whether he will be playing SS for the Sox in a couple of years. Morse is a career .258 hitter and has never had more than 10 HR. He seems to be putting it together this year and realizing his potential, but a good half season is not convincing enough. I like his potential, but I am not ready to proclaim him as an MLB SS just yet.

Jered Weaver
Personally, if that is true, I find it appalling. John Kruk said it best on Baseball Tonight a few nights ago.. He said it is an honor to play Major League Baseball and not a right as some of these guys treat it. Players should be happy when they are drafted regardless by who, sign their deal and start playing the game. Baseball will reward those who are good enough to stick around the game. I figure if there is a time for the owners to get together and work on a little collusion, draft bonuses are the right subject. Draftees are not protected by the union therefore, the owners would only need a little resolve to rein in bonuses. Problem is, they have never been too good about showing such resolve as a group.

Joe Borchard
I believe Borchard is not in Chicago right now for one reason and one reason only...... he is not 100% healthy. Keep in mind at the same time Maggs went down with the injuries, Borchard was sitting for 5 or so straight games. If Borchard has a good week or two, expect him to be in Chicago soon if Maggs will indeed be out more than a month.

Spidale
His arm is definitely weak. He has a funky throwing motion and lacks strength. Defensively, he looks good to me. He has played mostly LF in Birmingham and goes and gets the ball in the gap like a CF. That is a nice luxury to have. Overall, I still project him as a 4th OF if he keeps doing what he is doing.

Representing the White Sox
The Sox weren't in Burlington for very long. I don't think they ever wanted to go to Burlington, but they got squeezed out and didn't have much choice - much like the year they had to put a AAA team in Calgary. After the Sox left Hickory, they wanted to stay in the NC area, but couldn't at that time, so Burlington was a temporary move. Having three teams in NC and another in the South - Birmingham - makes it easier and less expensive to run those teams. Travel is cheaper for both players moving from one team to another as is travel for roving instructors. It also allows roving instructors to see teams more often.

Here's A Kid I Wouldn't Mind The Sox Drafting
The reference was to the Angels, not the Sox...... I had to read it twice before I got it.

Oakland's pitching advantage?
Old news...... I posted this article several months ago. Try and keep up, will ya? LOL In all seriousness, I found the article very interesting.... especially since the place is here in Birmingham.

Guess who might be returning to Minny...
Not sure what all of those scouts will be doing in Montgomery since the Biscuits will be playing in Birmingham that night.

Spidale
whitesox61382, you need to put to memory my scouting reports! Ditto on what MSF said.... Too add to that...... Spidale is an interesting guy who could go one of two ways.... I don't see him as a starter in the big leagues, so in my mind he will either make it as a 4th OF type or get stuck as a AA/AAA outfielder forever. This year is very important for him. As MSF mentioned, he has fallen off late in the season in past years. Last year he had two bad months. His average fell from .306 on June 11 to .234 on August 16. He rebounded in the last two weeks of the season to take his average back up to .262 which is where he ended up. The year before he was pretty consistent except for two weeks in July (coming back from an injury) where he hit .170. If he can maintain a .280 or better average and continue to take walks like he has then they will start taking him seriously. He has a ton of doubles this year which helps as well. His weaknesses are no HR power whatsoever and a weak arm, which is why he is playing LF more than CF. The Sox had planned on sending him back to Winston-Salem this year and only switched him to the Birmingham roster the week before ST camp broke, so that tells me he really isn't in their plans. Staying strong for the rest of this year could change that. It needs to if he ever wants to see Chicago other than visiting family!

Random Musings on the Draft
Rylan Reed was definitely a project. He threw real hard which is why it was said he could become a steal.

Weaver may not go #1
Beat you to it Cerb.... lol Sowers is very good. He may also be the closest pitcher to the Majors. His command is A+ and he knows how to pitch. He throws 86-89 with a curveball and a slider and a solid changeup, although he doesn't throw it a lot. I saw him pitch Wednesday against Georgia and he gave up 3 hits and no walks while striking out 10 in a complete game shutout.

Ryan Wing Decision Close
Even the simplest of shoulder surgeries are risky propositions in terms of how a player will recover. Taking time to make the decision is a smart move.
-
Weaver may not go #1
Gautreau hit .242 with 14 HR and 55 RBI in AA last year and is hitting .226 with 6 HR and 18 RBI while repeating AA so far this year. Sounds like the Pads may be questioning his status.

Fifth Starter Watch ...
I thought the Ginter for Perez trade was a good one for the Sox and the Mets.

With some trades coming up soon....
Not sure when Anderson and Sweeney can be traded..... they cannot be traded in their first year. Not sure if that date is from when they were drafted or when they were signed.

White Sox Draft Preview: Compensatory Round
It would depend on who ultimately signed him.
