Why? There is no reason to take him off the 40-man roster right now. Sit him down for a week or two to let him clear his mind. Hell, send him to extended ST if you have to, but the guy needs a break to get himself back together. Danny is a good guy and still has a chance to be a big league pitcher in the bullpen. Rather than kick a guy while he is down, why not support him and hope he makes it back successfully?

I'd say mid-June is a realistic time for Anderson to move up, as long as he keeps hitting.

It wouldn't make sense to reward a guy who walked 8 hitters in his last outing. Diaz deserves the shot and I would be shocked if it is not him..

My take on Bajenaru is that he is more likely a setup type guy. John Sickels recently answered a question from the Mailbag on a Brewers farmhand named Ryan Miller. Although there are some differences in their style, I think you could almost substitute Bajenaru's name into his answer. Baj is probably a little more polished and thus might have a bit of a higher upside, hence my view of him as a setup guy. Funny thing is, I made comparisons between these two last year. The key is, there are a lot of guys hanging around AA and AAA with Bajenaru and Miller's level of stuff and even to some degree their success, so good timing is as important as performance. If Baj keeps doing the job, he'll get a chance at some point, with the Sox or someone else. Here is the Q&A from Sickels column on Miller. I don't think I could have answered it better myself. Josh from Evansville, Ind., asks: Can you tell me anything about Ryan Miller. He's a Double-A pitcher in the Brewers' system. He has impressive K/nine innings and K/BB this year. He's a bit old (26), but does he have any shot at reaching the majors? Sickels: I think Miller has a shot in the Show, yes, probably in middle relief. First the background. The Brewers drafted Miller in 2000 in the ninth round from the University of Evansville. He tied for the Missouri Valley Conference lead with 10 wins that year, while leading the circuit outright with 126 strikeouts in 110 innings. His pro record is rather mixed, though he's maintained a good strikeout rate. This year, Miller has a 2.19 ERA through 12 innings at Double-A Huntsville, with an excellent 20/4 K/BB ratio. His fastball is in the 88-91 mph range, not wonderful for a right-hander. But he has a very good breaking ball, and has sharpened his command this year. You're right about his age being a handicap for his status as a prospect. He'll need to show us he can survive in Triple-A before getting a shot at the Show either later this year or sometime in 2005. His strikeout rate is impressive, even though his fastball isn't that fast, which means he's doing something right. Basically, he's a middle relief sleeper. There are a dozen similar guys floating around Double-A and Triple-A in any given year. Time will tell whether Miller is one of the lucky ones who earns a pension.

I think at this point Wunsch will be optioned, not outrighted. Outrighted means removing him from the 40-man roster after he clears waivers. If the Sox need a LHP in the bullpen this year, my guess is that it will be Munoz, not Wunsch.

I thought that too and looked it up........ no one at Charlotte has gone deep into games this year. Rauch's 33.1 IP in 6 starts isn't much different from Stewart, Kohlmeier or even Diaz. Diaz was tops at 39 IP, I believe.

Ok, you are still not looking at it logically. Others as well as myself have given you reasons why it would be stupid to pick him up. If you can't see those reasons, then we shall agree to disagree.

Needing production now is not a reason to make a knee-jerk reaction to take on $66.5 million dollars. It's hard to think logically when you are involved in something emotionally, but your emotions are blinding your logic, my friend. If Griffey were on a one year deal, sure, an argument could be made. But just because the Sox lost three games in a row, is not a reason to panic. First place means squat right now.

By hitting .241 with 6 HR and 21 RBI and 24 strikeouts??? No thanks..... I'll pass.

For those interested, after the above 4 games, his numbers were as follows for the rest of the season. ERA 3.06 IP 50 H 39 BB 23 K 58

He was bad in 3 of his first 4 outings last year........ that's it... It took him all year to get his ERA down. His ST and beginning of the season was clearly affected by the number of innings he threw in 2002 and in Winter Ball. Here you go........ Bob, Griffey is getting older by the day........ His upside is no longer the same as it was 5-6 years ago.

Deferred or not, it is still too much to pay for him. You wouldn't buy a TV for $10,000 when others that give you the same quality are available for $5,000, just because you don't have to pay for all of it now, would you? Griffey is not worth the gamble with his contract plain and simple. The Sox do not have the kind of budget to take those kind of gambles. FYI, Griffey's deal calls for another $66.5 million minimum. It calls for deferred payments through 2024! I can see it now, as Griffey becomes a grandfather, the Sox won't be able to make a move at the pennant chase because they still owe gramps $3.5 million.... Sounds like they may be trying to get him onto a certain schedule. Watch his next appearance. My guess is it is a start and right on schedule for when the Sox will need a 5th starter again.
