  1. He was coming off Tommy John last year and only played about a half season. After missing a year and a half, I would expect some rust.
  2. Problem is, if Uribe wins the 2B job, we have a major problem with the bench. Willie can't play SS or 3B, so either Kelly Dransfeldt or Bobby Smith would almost have to be kept. Bench: Alomar Harris Bernard/Borchard/Gload Dransfeldt/Smith There is a school of thought they may go this route anyway, but I just don't like the lack of flexibility we have, unless a guy like Smith can step up and be a solid bench player.
  3. If the shoe fits.....
  4. You know UNS, I thought you were normal enough to be a righty, but after this discussion, there is no doubt that "flaky lefthander" fits. ;-)
  5. Name some of the players on his all time "carmine deriere" team...... Red Ass is often used to describe someone with an edge to them. A bit ornery perhaps.
  6. Question is, which team's uniform will Maggs be wearing as he wins the MVP?
  7. Where have you been? He has been discussed many times on here and has even posted on here once or twice. Check the prospect threads.
  8. That there are no lefty 3rd baseman is all about old school thinking and laziness on the part of coaching staffs and nothing to do with actually playing the position. Still waiting on an actual good reason rather. I'll help you hear by letting you know why there are no LH 3B and why sometimes "old school thinking" actually makes sense after 130 or so years. A left-hander at 3B cannot make the throws necessary to play the position. He would be throwing against his body on any play other than one going to his left. There is no way a lefty can make throws charging bunts, and he could not make throws to second fast enough to turn a DP. So if you can explain to me how that is laziness and follow it up with a reason why those things don't matter, perhaps I'll listen. It might just be easier to put down the bottle and get some rest though.
  9. He had the strained quad before yesterday's game, so it is nothing new. Sounds like they were just being catious.
  10. Don't think.......... It can only hurt the ballclub.
  11. From the article on the Sox website (linked in another thread) it sounds as if Gload, Borchard, Valenzuela (I mentioned him) or Bernard will win one spot. Kelly Dransfeldt, Bobby Smith or a third catcher (Burke or Riviera) will get the other spot. There is some sense in that since Harris can also play the OF. Going with another infielder will give them more flexibility and not make Uribe back up 2B, SS and 3B. Not sure it will go down that way, but I could see how it can make sense. I'd hate to have one infielder to cover all three positions.
  12. Excuse me, UNS, but what are you smoking? There is a very good reason there are no LH 3B.
  13. Mike Gulan was signed as a free agent and will likely be the 3B at Charlotte. Darren Ciraco is an organizational type guy who has played mostly at Kannapolis the past two years, but has made a couple brief appearances at Winston. Not sure who Nelson is. I don't even see a Nelson in the Sox org.
  14. That is very possible as well. His ability to play 2B, SS or 3B will give the Sox some flexibility.
  15. Uribe is your backup 3B
  16. Gload will not play 3B in the Majors unless it is an absolute emergency.
  17. Today was his first outing.. 1 IP 0H 0R 0BB 1K He hasn't been healthy the last two years..... I think he will do well in AAA for Minny and be solid insurance if they need someone.
  18. Gload throws lefty, so playing 3B is out.
  19. Pittsburgh tried to remove him off their 40-man roster and outright him to AAA. The Twins claimed him off waivers and added him to their 40-man roster. November 20th is when the Twins claimed him.
  20. Thanks for the update..... It is nice to hear from someone seeing games live. A note on Miles. KW traded him because he was committing to Willie Harris. Miles could not have filled the role Uribe will on this team because he can't play SS. The issue is not Uribe or Miles, Uribe or another utility player. And of course whether Miles over Harris was the right choice. Time will tell on that one.
  21. Someone else posted the link earlier in this thread.
  22. What station are White Sox games broadcast? Does that station stream its games? I am listening to the D'backs broadcast and it sucks.
  23. Split-squad games count. B games are extra games (some are scheduled, some are not). They are typically mostly Minor Leaguers and extra guys in camp. but if a pitcher like a Buehrle or Loaiza needs to work on a certain day that doesn't jive with the regular ST games, they will have him throw in a B game. Those games just give teams flexibility and additional chances to play.
  24. In reality, he is competing with Bernard. Borchard and Reed aren't likely candidates for the 4th OF position. Now if Reed beats out Rowand to start in CF, then Mario is competing with Rowand and Bernard.
  25. Damn there is a delay in KTAR's broadcast. I read here about Garcia being thrown out at home before I heard it on the radio. LOL
