  1. Hey quickman, how do you feel about Grilli?
  2. I think Buehrle's "decline" is a cause for concern. I hope he can turn it around, but those numbers don't lie. And his 2003 #'s can't be blamed on a bad start to the season because his numbers weren't that bad in the first half. His pre and post All-Star Break #'s from last year aren't that much different.
  3. I agree, they should have just stopped the game after the first OT and declared both teams losers. Nobody wanted to step up and win that game. It was hurtful to watch.
  4. I am not saying Washburn is or isn't the answer, but if they get outs, who the hell cares how they throw?
  5. Rating Marte #1 might be a bit of a stretch, but he is compared somewhat to Miguel Cabrera. We'll see if he has a break out year like Miggy did.
  6. There is no listing of Borchard being optioned in any of the transactions. Yes, it will happen, but this screams as something Yahoo picked up from a fan site, which is not always accurate. Anybody remember when Yahoo Sports picked up Soxtalk's report of KW resigning last summer?? We all know how accurate that turned out to be. LOL
  7. No, the Marlins would have to give the Sox $25k. The Sox paid $50k to pick him up in the first place. I don't think the Sox will try to "hide" him on their roster. If he can contribute, they will keep him. If they want to keep him but send him down, they will try and make a trade for him, assuming he clears waivers.
  8. Majewski has a nice arm and a bulldog mentality. The Sox traded him to the Dodgers organization several years ago and then got him back in a trade later that year. Apparently he just didn't fit in, in the Dodgers org. The Sox liked him, so they got him back after a bad year with the Dodgers. He had a really good year in Birmingham in 2002 and then was taken in the Rule 5 draft by Toronto last year, but was returned to the Sox when he didn't make the Blue Jays out of ST. Tex, as they call him, is different. He is a country boy who wears boots and marches to his own beat. None of that really matters, but it may help explain why he didn't adapt too well in a new org. I have heard the Sox have been on him in the past about conditioning. Jason saw him last year and said he didn't think that was an issue anymore. Jason is high on him. I think he has a chance, but would call him more of a fringe prospect. I think his impact at the big league level, if any, will be low to moderate.
  9. It hadn't been posted that I know of. No surprises though.
  10. The Sox could keep Gilli and send him down to Charlotte if two things happen: 1. He clears waivers and no other team claims him with the intent of keeping him on their 25-man roster. 2. The Sox work out a trade with the Marlins for the right to keep him. It would cost the Sox another Minor Leaguer. Otherwise, if the Sox want to send him to AAA at any point this season, he will have to be offered back to Florida for $25k.
  11. Why no faith in Rauch? What keeps you from believing he will reach his potential?
  12. You're right, but it is not only Cubs announcers. Hawk and DJ are just as guilty at times.
  13. Damn Jason, is there a trade you wouldn't make right now? You would trade for Griffey, Benson and pick up Singleton today? Are you just itchin to make a move or do you really think all of these would make good moves? Edit: I didn't read far enough.... You would also trade Konerko for Perez or Ishii and Ventura? And for Junior Spivey? You must have caught some baseball virus in Arizona. LOL
  14. Jeremy Reed is not a 4th OF candidate. Never was, never will be in 2004.
  15. I saw a game on ESPN Classic the other night from 2002. Koch was throwing against the Red Sox. He was only throwing 94 then.
  16. Anderson is RH. I'm liking the idea of a Charlotte OF of Borchard, Reed and Valenzuela. Birmingham's the OF that will suck. LOL
  17. or vice versa ;-)
  18. ss2k, you have a ton of credit card debt?? Here is why you don't trade for Griffey..... 2000: $12.5M [$5.5M of 2000 salary deferred until 2009+] 2001: $12.5M [$6.5M from subsequent years deferred until 2009-2024] 2002: $12.5M 2003: $12.5M 2004: $12.5M 2005: $12.5M 2006: $12.5M 2007: $12.5M 2008: $12.5M 2009: Team option with $4.0M buyout Just because you don't have to pay him all that money now, doesn't mean you don't have to pay it. I can see it now..... people on this board are screaming in 2011 because the Sox owe Griffey a couple million and it is keeping them from signing BJ Upton as a free agent. Griffey is 3 years removed from a decent season. Even if he hadn't been injured, it is likely he would be on the decline right now. There is no way I would take a $66.5 million chance on a player in decline, even if he is healthy.
  19. Department of Accuracy II: It's Neal Cotts, not Neil. And he plunked Nic Jackson, not Nic Johnson.
  20. I usually don't mind Steve Stone, but he was in rare form yesterday. Wright and Riviera seemed confused with Todd Walker on 1B and Riviera went ou to talk to him. Stone said they shouldn't be worried about Walker stealing because he had a grand total of one SB last year. He was the last person they needed to focus on. So what happened, you ask? I'll tell you. Walker takes off on the next pitch and Riviera tries to throw him out from his knees. The throw was on the 3B side of the bag and Walker gets a SB. Only one pitch after Stone said him stealing wasn't an issue to be worried about. The other thing I hate about ST broadcasts, is the announcers get off on tangents or busy with an interview and they will let a whole at bat go by without telling you the players name. It wasn't just Stone and Caray yesterday. I have seen it in past years with Hawk and DJ. I remember one inning a few years ago when a Sox pitcher came in with a high number that I didn't recognize. They never mentioned the pitcher by name, nor did any on-screen graphics tell us. I was pissed. LOL
  21. Jason, tell me you weren't one of the idiots that just had to walk down the stairs right behind home plate while talking on their cell phone so they could wave to someone watching at home on TV?
  22. 94, you are an idiot, plain and simple. You have no clue about what happened. Then you admit you were drunk when you typed it and still try to defend your point. The point is, player's wives are almost always very conscious of their young ones at a game and always make a point to sit behind the netting to protect themselves as well as their children. Whether she was paying attention or not, a ball that ricochets off something else and bounces in an unexpected direction may not be avoidable. I have seen many people get hit at stadiums. Some could have avoided it and others could not, unless they just weren't at the ballpark at all. Hell, I have seen a woman get hit inside a suite before. Before you pop off and act like people are being careless, think a moment. Perhaps you will realize that they were being smarter than the act of you popping off like an idiot.
  23. Should they go that route, Gload is your 4th OF and yes, Willie would be a fill-in CF. If Willie got injured they would just call Borchard or Reed up from AAA. Gload has also played a little CF in ST, so we'll have to see how that is going.
  24. You can't sign and trade a free agent until after June 15.
  25. Because you can't do those things..... The bottom line is, the union must give in on this. They need to stop making it a collective bargaining issue. I am not sure how much pressure Congress could actually put on them, but something needs to get them to move. My concern is that McClain's threats are empty, because I am not sure what they could actually do that would hurt the players or their union.
