  1. You forgot one important question....... Could KW have changed his mind after interviewing Ozzie for 4 hours??
  2. Rowand wasn't quoted directly in the article like Buehrle and Guillen were. That means to me that someone told the writer that Rowand told them or something like that. I wouldn't read too much into it. Especially since if KW indeed hires Guillen, it will mean that he is rewarding the guy that exclusively failed to respect his silence request. If ARow catches heat for an indirect quote, that would be a HUGE double standard.
  3. I haven't read any of Gaston's personal comments about managing here That's cause Gaston has pre-occupied himself with throwing the race card. Specific Reference???
  4. I haven't read any of Gaston's personal comments about managing here, but Ozzie really wants this job...BAD. CWSOX45 Because Gaston has obeyed KW's request to not speak publicly about the job opening/search. Guillen, on the other hand, has launched his own personal PR campaign.
  5. There is a language translator on google that is very good...... it is still not perfect, but I have read several of the messages he posts. It is a very impressive site, with excellent pictures.
  6. THANK YOU!!!! Weaver was never good darned good. He was decent at best.
  7. Doubtful he makes the Major League roster.... For one, I am not positive the Sox even retain his rights. He signed as a free agent, so he may be one now. I am not sure how that works with older players from foreign leagues. Two, I think 2004 is his make or break year, but I don't see him making it out of ST. Hopefully, he will get a non-roster invite to camp. Yofu has excellent control and changes speeds well. He is said to have 7 different pitches and never seems to throw the same speed twice in a row. He comes at you from different angles as well. He doesn't walk many and keeps hitters off balance. I have heard he lacks aggressiveness and the Sox want him to throw his fastball more often (which I have seen range from 86-93 mph). He is likely best suited as a middle reliever to a setup guy, but he did well both as a starter and as a closer for the Barons, which shows his versatility. He will be 30 to start the season, so his window of opportunity is small. I hope he makes it. From what I could tell, his teammates really liked him and he worked hard to learn both English and Spanish.
  8. Jim, thanks for the backhanded compliment. LOL I know it may be tough to fathom, but I do come up with a thought or two on occasion that you might not agree with. I do think Paulie is more than capable of putting up numbers at least close to that level. Will he? Not sure But I don't think it is too far-fetched to consider it possible. And YES, I do still think the Alomar trade was a good one. The Sox traded a future setup guy for someone that gave them stability and a veteran presence. I am not the biggest Robby fan, but I do respect the little things he can bringo a club. Obvously, he wasn't happy in NY, but I believe he had a positive effect on Jose and others.
  9. Barring extended time on the DL, I think Paulie will produce those kind of numbers next year. Just interested in what makes you think he will. Yes he was an All-star in 2002, but it was for a half a season, and we all know how he has been for the last season and a half. I just dont see anything in his stats that tell me he can, or will hit 33,.285,and 110 RBI's. Hate to break it to all those that follow Bill James blindly, but there is more to baseball than just stats. The players are human. For those of you who do not agree, here are some of the stats that you say do not exist, that indicate he is capable of those kinds of numbers with a big year..... Year Avg. HR RBI 1999 .294 24 81 2000 .298 21 97 2001 .282 32 99 2002 .304 27 104 In July, August and September of 2003, Paulie hit ..279 with 15 HR and 48 RBI. He may not hit the .285 33 110 numbers, but .275-.285 is realistic as is 25-30 HR and 90-100 RBI. That would not even be a huge year for him.

Damnit, forkit, STOP IT........... You are going to confuse everyone with all of this logical, rational thought. People here just aren't ready for that kind of thing.
  11. Rex Hudler replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Forkit will you stop making sense. It has no place on this board!
  12. To answer your question in part, about half the Red Sox team will be available..... Nomar, Derek Lowe, Varitek, and others......
  13. Let's not get carried away with this Irrevocable Waivers thing here...... Boston had a specific purpose for doing that. The Sox aren't going to just put Paulie and Koch out there for the taking, unless something really weird happens. If someone wants either player, than a trade can be worked out.
  14. Barring extended time on the DL, I think Paulie will produce those kind of numbers next year.
  15. Not that he is likely to be put on waivers, but let's hope this is one spot where Gammons is wrong. LOL
  16. Rex Hudler replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Make your argument Killa.... Why is that trade a rip off?
  17. I am assuming this was meant in jest, however, for those that do not know, advertising on uniforms cannot be done.
  18. If they would pay us $7 million, I would take that. If they paid half, then we would save $4 million. And Ramirez is a better hitter than Maggs. The problem is he is such an idiot. What he did in Boston was horrible. He said that he was sick and in the same day was getting drunk in a bar. Just for clarification and fairness...... I saw that he was spotted in a bar, not that he was drinking or drunk. Unless I missed something, I think maybe you are assuming a little here. I for one, have been to bars and not drank. I also have been to bars and only had a beer or two, which is far from "getting drunk". Don't get me wrong, he put himself in a bad spot and the mere perception of wrong doing can be just as harmful as actually doing the wrong thing.
  19. Easier said than done, forkit.... The players union is strong and may not have given up before the game was essentially ruined in your case. The bottom line is, the player's union is way too damned strong and for the good of the game, it needs some new leadership at the top. Leaders who will forget about the past and not feel the need to kill the owners in every labor negotiation becausse of past transgressions. They need guys who will look out of the best interests of the game as well as those of the players. Another example of "easier said than done", however.....
  20. ss2k, may I suggest that when you post a link for a story like that, you provide a two or three line summary so someone can determine if they want to click on the link and read the rest of the story? It would be helpful to me, at least. Thanks
  21. Boys, the problem with your theory is to get compensation for losing Alomar (or any free agent), the Sox must first offer salary arbitration. If the player accepts arbitration rather than signing with another team (deadline in December sometime), then the Sox will be stuck (not the best choice of word) with him and possibly at a higher salary since they will have to go through the arbitration process. So you can't get compensation for a player without some risk. This also reduces the likelihood that the Sox will offer arbitration to Everett or even possibly Robbie Alomar and Gordon, which will mean no compensation for losing them.
  22. Rex Hudler replied to The Beast's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah the Red Sox still owe him the difference of whatever he makes and what the Red Sox were supposed to pay him. The Red Sox aren't going to just release him. They'll try and trade him or keep him and hope that this sent a message to him to get his s*** straight.
  23. Tex, you are too funny. Oh s***, I guess I am going to get stupid and illiterate for that, aren't I?
  24. For the record...... I criticized Ncorgbl.... Josh posted the single word "priceless" and Ncorgbl called him illiterate and stupid. JimH also agreed with me, however there was no response from Corb. So either NCorgbl doesn't respect Puerto Ricans who don't command the English language as well as he or he just forgot to lambaste JimH as well. This whole thing is rather ridiculous and anyone that reads this whole thread can make judgements for themselves as to who is who. I know I shouldn't be saying this because this board nor this world belongs to me. It's all Ncorgbl's since he is the far superior human being. All of us are just cocky kids (even the grown adults) and none of us matter in the least. Especially when we have an opinion that varies from that of the Almighty Ncorgbl. This time, Ncorgbl, I am done.... Go ahead, get your last word in and call me stupid or cocky or inane or whatever you want. Every response you make just shows the world your true colors. They can judge those colors how they see fit, however I am confident I know how you are perceived. It's just a damned shame you are too blind to recognize your own behavior. Go ahead, fire the last shot... Enlighten us all with your intelligence and wit. One up me "again". That is what seems most important to you. It must be all you have.
  25. There is one difference with baseball, Capn. Contracts in baseball are guaranteed, where there are not in football. You would not see the same effect in baseball that you do in the NFL in the situation you described.
