He did not say that Boston is NOT interested in Colon. He said that they would not likely pursue him because they won't likely add much to payroll and that they will more than likely pursue mid-level FA's. Of course, all it would take is one trade by Boston that clears payroll and they would be right in the hunt for him. If that happens, it does not mean Gammns was wrong.

Actually that was a graphic that ESPN put up of big time free agents while Gammons was talking...... but Gammons did not mention them all by name.

Its official.....
Yes, I know he meant the Sox...... The Sox haven't had a top 10 pick until the late 80's or early 90's

That is assuming the money offered will still be spent on other players.

The deadline for him to file is Nov. 9. At that point, he can begin negotiating with other teams on Nov. 10, but not until then.

Interesting idea
As long as Weaver is not included in any trade with NY.

Sox 2003 draft report card
If anyone has any information on this part, please elaborate. Thought maybe either Jas or Rex would know something about this, I'm interested to know. In addition to the article already posted, my best guess is this had something to do with Brian anderson and his wrist. The Sox drafted him highly and paid him well, only to find out he had a pre-existing wrist injury. Later that injury re-occurred and not only did he miss time, but his second surgery is now on the Sox dime. My guess is Laumann wanted to discipline a crosschecker for missing that information. It is just that, a guess, but it does seem to make sense.

We'll agree to disagree. I just find it funny how he is so respected within the game, yet all you guys know more. Sounds like some of your own personal biases are getting in the way.

If he waits until it is a "done deal" then he no longer has new information. He has the same info as everyone else. His job is to do what he does. He does it very well.

Guillen: "I belong to the White Sox"
How do "we" know what Cito is like inside the clubhouse? Just because a guy is completely under control and not excitable when the tv cameras are on him, doesn't mean he is always like that inside the clubhouse. I think how he handles his players in the clubhouse when the tv cameras aren't rolling is more imortant.

Please no Ozzie !
Doing that same exact thing is what is getting Grady Little run out of Boston.

He also said Russ Ortiz to the Sox last winter was a done deal. Don't believe anything he says. It is my understanding that Russ Ortiz to the Sox was basically a done deal until the Braves came in and offered Damian Moss at the last minute. If a guy is fed information and reports it, it is not his fault if something changes at the last minute. Gammons is extremely well connected with the baseball community and is very well respected by those who work in it. That said, I am sure at times he is also fed some misinformation as well. Lastly, just because the guy says something on TV and it doesn't happen doesn't make him a dumbass. Part of his job is to come up with content that not everyone else has. Sometimes that will require him to play a hunch when reporting something or even report that something may happen before he has all of the information he wants or needs. Most of the time, he says things like "It looks as if this will happen" or "If the Marlins do this, then the Cubs will likely do that". You have to listen to what he says and how he says it. If you take everything as 100% literal or as a rock-solid prediction, sure you will think he is wrong all the time. I don't think it is that hard to listen to what he says and understand that he is well connected if you do so with an open mind. Clear your head of your own biases and you will find that he is very informative.

Guillen: "I belong to the White Sox"
I think it is very interesting that every other candidate has been asked to not comment on the search/opening, yet Ozzie has been able to launch a full force PR campaign for himself, and have it seen as positive in everyone's eyes. I am not nor for against Ozzie for the job, but I really don't like the idea that he has basically been given the benefit of the good side of a major double standard. If I were the other candidates, I'd be pretty pissed off, and rightfully so.

Don't forget they have Jon Lieber under contract for next year. He will almost definitely have a spot in their rotation.

Sox minor-league free agents
Nunez is a solid defensive Minor League SS, nothing more. Chris Saunders will be a coach in the Sox system somewhere. Alvarez is a Minor League vet, not likely to re-sign. Any of the guys listed with the possible exception of Mario V. are just Minor League roster filler. I'd like to see Piniella back in Birmingham, however. Great guy, good team guy and a smokin hot wife!

Article on Guillen....
I find it strange that one would say that..... From what I have ascertained, every player that has played for Wally in the past two years has loved playing for him. Wally is not an "in your face" kind of guy like some people want to think. As for the players popping off, that is just frustration and misinformation. Their manager had just been fired so sure they are going to stand up for him. That's natural. Wally never said he wanted Manue's job, it just came out that way in print. He was asked if he wanted to manage the White Sox and he said he would love to if the opportunity arose. He also said that he didn't wish failure on the current Sox team and that if his being the Sox manager was meant to be, then it would happen on its own. I am not saying Wally will be or even should be the next manager, but there are many misconceptions about him and of course they are stated like they are absolute fact, which I find comical.

Article on Guillen....
Are you still believing that crap??? How often is something credible when it is reported by only one media source, doesn't name anyone it is quoting and never gives the person it is talking about the opportunity to respond to the "allegations"? That report was stupid....
