  1. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) Kitchen Nightmares is a fun little show. I really love it when the people on the show finally realize he isn't a jerk, he's just extremely passionate about the line of work, and a perfectionist. As soon as they start doing the job properly, he becomes a nice guy. My sattelite went out on Tuesday, so I've missed an entire week of shows. Pisses me off. Is it wrong to actually find some humor in 2 And A Half Men. I laugh from time to time, and I know I shouldn't. But, sometimes it's pretty risque, and I really get taken by surprise. Why shouldn't you laugh? Why would it be wrong? If it's funny, laugh!
  2. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) First post since I watched the great, program changing win against Wisky on saturday. The game was in the same mold as the Penn st game (score pts and hope the defense doesn't break) but I'm so impressed with the job Zook has done in such a short period of time. This program literally was stocked full of 1 and 2 star players and he's made winners out of them in 2 years. Amazing. (and i'll gloat a little - i said if they run the option all the time they'd have success...glad Locksley read my post). I think the sky is the limit for this team. I'm actually kind of annoyed about the national attention they've gotten so far. Lots of "suprising upset" talk. And lots of "ohio state is the only good team in the big ten." I'll give the the fact that osu is good, especially their defense, but have they really been tested so far? I think the game against washington was good, but illinois has now beaten penn st and wisconsin. I just don't see a defense that can stop mendenhall, juice and benn. Are they beatable? Absolutely. But come on, who had Purdue beat besides ND? And we are supposed to be amazed at osu nearly shutting them out? It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks. I think if Illinois wins next week at iowa it'll set up a huge game at home against Michigan. It'll take a win over a mediocre Michigan team to get the national scene thinking that Illinois has a shot at the conference title and a bcs bowl. Michigan may or may not be a mediocre team at that point.
  3. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) He'd be a serious Heisman candidate if he had any media hype whatsoever. Problem is he is not even the best RB in his conference.
  4. QUOTE(Shadows @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 11:40 PM) I would have. I did take Stanford and won a couple hundred But did you bet Stanford to win straight up? I think not
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) I wouldn't be surprised to see OSU run the table. There is no reason they shouldn't be able to handle Illinois, Wisky, PSU, and Michigan. Wouldn't it be crazy for OSU to go undefeated and win it all this year, after losing so many players from last year's great team? Then again, something like that wouldn't be unprecedented. Tennessee's NC came the year after Peyton Manning graduated.
  6. Man isn't college football great!!! How many of you would have taken bets if I told you that USC and LSU would lose tonight and Notre Dame would win??? Yes, I know that hasn't happened yet, but the mere possibility is what makes it so much fun.
  7. QUOTE(Carlo Paz @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) I caught the very tail end of an interview on SCR today with someone named Jim from the Diamondbacks management team who was pretty emphatic that Chris Young was the main consideration in that deal. He said that Young was the one that they had targeted and they built the deal around that. What the hell do you expect them to say? If they agree with Rogers, all they of is potentially plant a seed of doubt in their own budding star. There is no way they are going to say "We're glad we got him, but yeah we really wanted somebody else instead." This quote in no way validates or refutes Rogers' article. The bottom line is it doesn't matter which player Arizona preferred. THE TRADE NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE FIRST PLACE!
  8. I'm a bit confused. Are we actually trying to compare Josh Fields with Chris Young? There is one HUGE difference between the two and that is SPEED. Josh Fields has lead in his shoes compared to Young. Speed is the one thing that potentially separates Young from guys like Adam Dunn (maybe not the best, but the only comparison I could think of off the top of my head). That extra dimension is what could make Young special even without a .300 BA.

I'm watching the Michigan - Eastern Michigan game on Slingbox right now. The quality is just so-so. I have an upload speed of 1/2 MB so I am not sure how that affects it. When I go full screen, the PQ is grainy unless it is a closeup shot. Still it is a pretty cool deal. My friend has a DVR, so I can use all of those features as well.
  10. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) Quality Starting pitching still trumps a quality positional player any day. You can overcome a shortcoming in the batting order, but it is hard to do that in the rotation. The timing of this information makes it seem very questionable. So you define quality starting pitching by someone who pitches well with nothing on the line?? If I recall, the Sox had a pretty good starting pitching corps going into that season. The problems were more bullpen depth.
  11. Javier is doing well today, but doing so on a losing team. I suspect his "success" would be much different if the heat of the spotlight/pennant race were on. But my comments have nothing to do with what Javier is doing today. It remains a stupid trade for the very reasons I stated. You don't give up that kind of talent in a deal that makes you only marginally better, if at all.
  12. I'm quite surprised at the negative statements made about Razor. Those seem to be the exact opposite of the impression I got of him in dealing with him over a season. First off Razor is a tough man to get to know. He has a very rough exterior and is a control freak. He's like that dad that will b**** at you about EVERYTHING you do wrong. He isn't very warm if he doesn't know you. Catch is, the players quickly learn if they actually do things the right way, he is a very good guy to play for and they come to love playing for him. Now they may not actually love him, but they sure as hell respect him. My experience with him was similar. At first you kind of walked on eggshells around him because he had that reputation and you would see how he'd handle players (I'm talking batting practice, pre-game, clubhouse, etc.). But once he sized you up and you came to understand what he is trying to accomplish, he was a pleasure to work with. He was also very much a Christian and a family man. I don't know if I ever heard him curse. I know the players did not when he was around. No one is perfect so I am not saying he never does. I've also been around him in off-the-field environments and he was the same. Doesn't drink at all either if I recall correctly (might be wrong on that one). Who knows, maybe once he got to the big leagues Ozzie corrupted him? ha ha I see Razor as a leader. He leads, players follow. Not sure his personality would truly fit in as an assistant, especially one with Ozzie's demeanor. I truly belive this situation was due to the two not being a good fit. I'm not saying Ozzie is the Devil and Razor is a Saint. Just that they are different types of people. Whether Razor ever gets his shot to be a Major League manager or not, I think he was one of the best Minor League managers I ever saw. Wally Backman was the only one that compared, and they were very different people with different styles.
  13. Here is the problem with that trade. It really has nothing to do with what the D'backs or KW thought of Brian Anderson. The cardinal rule of trading is this: You NEVER, EVER trade your top prospect (and a potential All-Star) in a deal that makes your club only marginally better if at all. You RARELY trade your top prospect if it makes your team a lot better (obviously there are individual variables with this one). Chris Young should have never been included in that deal. He had way too much upside and was a talent unlike any the Sox had in their system. The acquisition of Valdez did not immediately make the Sox all that stronger. One could argue that a strong bullpen and a traveled starter along with keeping El Duque could have made the Sox a much stronger team at that point. Granted there are always a lot of "if this happened" and "we didn't know this was going to happen" factors involved in any trade, but that is why you back to the cardinal rule above. Trading a solid minor leaguer is one thing. But since the Sox had OF dept (Anderson and Sweeney) they traded the guy who had the most upside of all of them. Big mistake I'll even add that we have no idea how many other teams were competing for Vasquez. Being the classic combination of head case/underachiever, I don't recall a lot of demand for the guy. He was an "I can fix him" kind of guy because of his stuff. Do you really think we could not have held and and possibly not moved either Young or Anderson? Or like I said, did we really need him at the time? I said it on the day of the trade and I will say it now. That was a STUPID trade, regardless of how good Javier or Chris Young is now.
  14. I haven't added to my two collections recently. Check out my balls and bobbleheads.

Well I would have given everyone a review today, but this morning my internet connection went out about a half hour before the Michigan game. I had to roadtrip it instead.

I just downloaded the software last night. My friend has it. He is letting me log in and use it to watch the Michigan game tomorrow on his DirecTV. I logged in last night and was playing around with it. It was pretty cool being able to control his TV and DVR from my computer. The PQ was solid at normal screen and pretty good expanded. I'd compare it maybe even favorably to MLB online. I'll let you know more tomorrow after the game how it worked, but for as cheap as it is, if you travel a lot, I think it is a pretty damned cool deal.

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) not the best episode, but last season started off slow as well. It takes them some time to get all the storylines back into the swing of things. It'll be fine. You must forget things after a year. Last year's opening episode was the episode where they outed Oscar. Nothing gets funnier than Dwight trying to buy gaydar online! That was one of the funniest episodes ever! That said, there were definitely some funny moments last night. It's just hard to sustain that kind of comedy for an hour, I think. I'd venture to say there is a reason that sitcoms have historically been half-hour shows.
  18. Anybody else think this smells bad for Coach Fran? A secret newsletter to boosters willing to pay $1,200 a year including detailed injury reports that are "against policy" when the media asks. Not sure if this will blow up and really hurt him, but I can't think it will help. Coach Fran: Secret Newsletter no longer secret

Count me in the very disappointed category. This episode really dragged on. I hated the last 10-15 minutes. The episode had some funny moments, but they need to stay away from hour long shows. Supersize them to 40 minutes if they want, but this wasn't good. I went back and watched the hour long finale from last season before tonight's episode and while it was good, it kind of dragged too. Maybe tonight was just a weak episode. Not one of their better efforts, IMO.
  20. I agree that Patrick was irritating tonight. Nice 1st play in OT to win for Georgia. Great game, but the Bama Nation has to come back down to earth for the time being, which is nice.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 06:12 AM) I'm thinking UM pulls the upsets as well. I honestly don't even really see it as an upset.
  22. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Indiana has supposedly taken the lead for Zeller, after a hard recruiting push from Sampson. I don't expect to pluck him away from his home state even though he had a great visit. Zeller visits IU this weekend. Lots of rumors flying around, but the latest is that IU has a slight lead over UNC. I'd be somewhat surprised if Purdue is not still realistically in it though. In the end, I think the lure of playing close to home with a talented bunch and the tradition of IU will win out. UNC's strengths are obvious, but the distance and the ability to be a great player for the home state University that is only an hour or so away from home may just be too great for them to overcome. All that said, is the guy really that good? I guess I just haven't seen enough video but six months ago, based on what I had seen, I wasn't convinced. I guess one of the things that give him great allure for teams, is people think he will be a four-year player and not one likely to try and jump to the NBA.
  23. I like Michigan as well, but I am a little biased. How often is Michigan a dog in the Big House? Couple that with the fact they have not lost to Penn St since 1996 and they still have lots to prove after the first two weeks and I think you have a solid victory for the Big Blue.
  24. Dr. James Andrews Excellent article from ESPN.com on Dr. Andrews and sports medicine. A very interesting read.
