  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Very interesting. I don't see where Lee would work since Pods really isn't an option in CF. I have to think there is something going on or in KW's mind that none of us are thinking about or know of. Whether he has another move in mind (Paulie or Thome being moved for some major piece that frees up a DH spot for one of these bats) or we are going to acquire a new leadoff hitter. Maybe we get Soriano and than deal him and uribe for Furcal, cash, Broxton, and a boatload of prospects? Just throwing something out there cause Soriano could make some sense since he leads off, but Lee none. Now heres a guy following along. Kenny obviously DOESNT want the Tigers/Twinks to get stronger, for that will be the last you hear of the SOX this season. However, I also think there will be a 3 team deal happening with us being shocked at one of our players being moved to acquire someone
  2. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) This little funk will end soon and we'll have two months to grind it out to the finish. There's no way the Twins can play .800 baseball for the next two months. And the Tigers are overdue for a funk. EVERY team has one. I disagree. Our division is much more competitive this year, and yes, the Twins will have a little Funk. Problem is, the SOX will outFunk the Twins. Tiggers? They already had their funk, and we couldnt gain any ground, and have now resumed Winning. shame on the SOX
  3. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) I said that if the Sox won the World Series I could be happy forever, and Ozzie could manage forever, even if the team sucked...and I guess I was wrong. I want it again just as bad. I thought we were going to be better than ever, and we are not. And the Tigers are just kicking everyone's ass and making me madder. That being said, we are the wild card leader, and I almost feel like we are in last place. And judging from this board...last year was not enough for most of you. What is my point? I don't know. I want it again. Being at the World Series was so great last year. So, Kenny, do what you need to do and Ozzie, get this team back on track. Tony wants to spend thousands of dollars again this off-season, on wonderful championship merchandise. Man, I swear some of you are reading my mind. I was talking about this with some fans by me, and I said the Sox "honeymoon" will last (with the SOX continueing the way theyre playing) until Next Month before we really start to hear the BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOs. I loved the WS, and Im sure SOX fans loved the World Series too, and the first thing I thought was I want ANOTHER ONE. Sure, its very tough to repeat, and this former co-worker told me "look how long it took", implying the fans will be more apologetic to the SOX. I said No they wouldnt, because THEY SHOULDVE been to the WS a Few Times now, weve been a good team for a while, this is the 1st time the SOX have made the effort to be good (repeat) Look at the Attendance at the games (hahhahaa, I said Attendance!) the fans are coming in droves, enjoy the park etc. The Fans are reasonable right now, but continued crap on the field wont go over well, SOX fans want what they feel was "owed" them. 94. 2000. 03. 83.
  4. QUOTE(pcullotta @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Boy, you sure did add a lot to this thread Vafan brings up a good point. When this thread was started, we were optimistic and really controlled our own destiny. If we would've played well during this stretch, we'd be in great shape. However, we have played like crap and it really is annoying that all you hear about are Ozzie's issues. I mean Jon pitched an unbelievable game and afterwards all you see on the highlight shows is Ozzie slamming a water bottle and yelling at Jon in the dugout. We won the game and the top story is Ozzie flips out again because his pitcher didn't bean someone. I agree Ozzie should be focusing on getting this team turned around right now. Not on starting fights with reporters or other teams. I wasnt. It all started for me during the last game of the Houston series. Gave up way too many runs, came back to tie, but couldnt push the winning run in which knowingly was going to get our bullpen into the game and the eventual loss. We went to Pitts and played rough, including Losing Gm3 horribly because of our offense and Ozzies reliance on a bad Cliff Politte. The Cub series was brutal all the way around, with AJ saving us on Saturday, but Buehrle putting us into a bigger hole than anyone thought at the time (kittle knows what im talking about). We werent able to take all 4 from bad Baltimore team, but I was very worried with the RedSox here. Weve been on an unchecked slide since. Whats Unnerving is that in this stretch ....................there were 6 games (arguably) that we shouldve WON. All 6 of these games were Winnable, but a missed bunt, a few Politte appearances and a couple of Vazquez starts made sure that didnt happen. If we win even just those 6 games, were still right there with the Tigers. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) Vazquez pitched into the 6th last nite on a relatively low pitch count, personally I saw no reason for him to come out for the 7th Vazquez is a "special" case, its clear hes very bothered by his losses and his confidence is waning badly right now. Ozzie needs to get him his innings then take him out and say GOOD JOB, let the bullpen win it for you. Get him a couple easy wins like this, get his confidence up, then let him last a batter extra ..... its about Momentum for certain pitchers (hahaahahah, I said Momentum!) and this would go a LOOOOOOONG WAY in helping Javy get turned around, because for now, hes still a SOX.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) " ....Fuzzy Bunny post game show ......" Fuzzy Bunny Show? QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) HA! Who posted this idea weeks ago? Most people were okay with it, some ridculed it. Many pointed out how this isn't as easy as it seems, but at this point I don't care about salaries and egos, etc. We need to right this ship ASAP or hello, 3rd place American Central. Wait, that was YOU that mentioned this a while back? GOOD CALL MAN QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) So what? Mauer is a much, much better hitter. This was a pretty obvious move imo to ibb him and it wasn't made. I was calling for it at the time(and others from this site could back that up) and it's still bugging me now. Hey, I was in 108 and Mauer was ON DECK when I said they better not pitch to him, he will go yard on him with men on, and the guys hitting .400. The whole row looked at me
  6. QUOTE(chisox08 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) im looking at tomorrows matchup here, and, in my opinion im thinking it will be a pitchers duel. although, ever since the all star break i have had no faith in this team, i think if we beat santana (and for some illogical reason i think we will) it may be the fire that lights their asses and gets them on a much needed roll. wut could be better than beating someone as dominating as santana? any thoughts and/or scenarios for tomorrows game? haahahah. Yesterdays game was IMPORTANT, because Santana is going tonite. We really needed Vazquez to bear down and mow the Twins down and shut them out. big problem when were needing that from Vazquez, but alas thats the position the SOX put themselves in. Santana will shut us down, Contreras will do an admirable job, but the "offense" will let him down and he'll get a ND or a Loss. by Thursday, the SOX will be looking up at a 9.5 game deficit in the division, and at the Yankees in the WC lead. I wonder WHEN ozz will realize that sticking with Vazquez and Buehrle late into games is COSTING the sox the season.
  7. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) Uh, yes it is, because it isn't working and its costing the Sox games. Why stick with a strategy that has proven, time and again, it won't work this year. If you know your starter melts down in the 6th once some runners get on, PULL HIM before that happens or when you see the first sign of it. Its the end of July, and if we just let them "work it out" we'll be out of the WC race by the end of August. EXCELLENT POST. Vazquez, and by extension Ozzie, has cost the SOX at least 5 games in just his starts. All the games were "winnable", but Oz and his questionable use of giving Vazquez enough rope to hang himself twice is ridiculous. We could not afford to be doing that, and instead of the SOX being 2 games in first or even tied, we are now 7.5 games out and sliding. We should never have been in this position. If we know Vazquez is brutal, use him in the bullpen, get his confidence back slowly but surely. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:03 AM) It would probably help Cotts lengthen his career if he can start developing a 2nd and 3rd pitch. Or simply not letting the best hitter on the other team beat you. I cant believe they pitched to Mauer .....
  8. QUOTE(Hanger @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) I believe Leyland gets it as long as the Tigers make the playoffs, he has done a fantastic job up there turning around that team. Might as well give him the plaque now .............
  9. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) I just wanted to ask you all, how were we last year around this time? Starting to suck? I think so. Sox are still in it in my book, and I'm happy we're taking out the trash of this organization. =) We were in 1st Place at that time. And ...... the SOX were good at moving runners over. And the bullpen was GOOD. And our #5 starter was pretty good.
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) I actually think that would hurt him more than help. I mean, a guy is dominating for 5 innings and then gets taken out? I'm sure he'll know it's because they don't have any faith in him past 5 innings. That could actually end up hurting what already has to be his waning confidence. Ozzie said he was going to start short leashing him (5innings), but then HASNT. Its just as much Ozzies fault that he hasnt caught on and seen the clues, Javy isnt an AL pitcher. Being in the bullpen would be very creative, and I could see him doing WELL. Anyone remember a guy named Kirk McCaskill? He was brutal in the rotation, he was put in the bullpen and the guy did amazing. Wish I could find my post, where I said I didnt like this guy. Think it was after his 4th start or so .........
  11. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) yea but in september I think of their last 10 games or so 6 or 7 are against the Royals Thats right. So really for the SOX, the season just got that much shorter. We have to catch up to, and overtake the Tigers by a number of games before those KC/Tiger games. The Tigers will not lose one game to them at that point ...........
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) Am I alone when I say these threads make me more angry than any game does? Its a game folks. I think people would get a lot more out of it if they realized that sports are supposed to add something positive to your life, you know an escape from the stresses of life that have to be worried about. If a game gets to you that badly, turn it off..... Hence me deciding to do something else Friday Nite instead of watching Buehrle/SOX give another game away and making me mad. That was the point of this thread ............ do you remember any games that drove you up a wall. Every good SOX fan has a game they remember. Richard Roeper even has a few he can tell you about, does that make him less a SOX fan? Its just a thread. I laugh about that Texas game back in 90, that was a TERRIBLE call. In fact, I remember how FURIOUS Hawk was, he was about to jump out of the booth ...
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) Hangar, you need to enter yourself into a Sox-fan Correctional/rehabilitational facility ...................... And the funny thing is, I remember the games you are referring to. Both of them. i believe that Texas started playing the song "The Night Chicago died" the next game or series vs the Sox, until MLB stepped in and told them to stop. And wasnt the Colon game the coming out party for Zambrano? I know those two faced each other at least once during the 2 crosstown series. Either way, when i read the title of this thread, I thought it was about games this year that made me mad. At which point I would have to say the first series against the Royals when the Royals took 2 of 3 after the Sox dropped 2 of 3 to the Indians. The Sox had no business losing any of those games You are CORRECT about the incident in Texas, I forgot about that ...........
  14. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) I'll take that bet. You think the Sox will be .500 by mid September?? The way Vazquez and Buehrle are pitching, couple with the way Ozzie forgot how to use his bullpen, plus the fact the SOX bullpen isnt as great as it was last year, and it wouldnt be out of the realm of possibility. The SOX have the toughest schedule the rest of the way. In fact, the top 5 teams in the AL and wildcard race, the SOX have the pleasure of playing them ALL in the next couple of weeks. This team chose a bad time to slump. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) You cannot be serious... But they are 59-38 since 4/4. Statements like that are the reason generalizing terms such as "dark clouds" come into existence. not trying to be a dark cloud, but their last 12 games, their pitching being brutal, couple that with the fact the SOX dont have anymore cupcake teams (unless you count Baltimore) the rest of the way, makes me feel not too great. This team is going to have to turn the switch ON, and right NOW.
  15. Anyone remember a game during the 1990 season, the SOX were playing awesome, but still behind the A's in the division and we were in Texas for a saturday game. I believe Thigpen came in and gave up a ball down the 3b line, scoring the runner from 3rd tying the game, but then a Fan grabbed the ball right away and the runner on 1st just rounded 2nd base. The 3b ump signalled deadball and he trotted to 3rd, but then the HomePlate umpire waved him in, and he trotted home with the gamewinner. The SOX were confused still standing on the field while the Rangers were jumping around. Torborg was the mgr and was LIVID, I was pretty furious about that one too .............
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) 59-38 .608 ...and they aren't even playing well right now. I think everything is going to be fine. Well, they are 3-9 since 7/7. By Mid september, this team will be hovering around .500
  17. Another thread got me thinking about this just now. The 4/7 game at KC really had my blood boiling for sure. There was a crosstown classic game, with Manuel managing, and he inexplicably removed Colon who was just CRUISING and the bullpen blew the game in the bottom of the 8th
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:30 AM) I too get upset, but there's nothing we can do about it except keep showing up to games and cheering on the team. Booing accomplishes nothing, and getting all pissed off accomplishes nothing. Booing does make me feel better. Rarely am I not in the mood to go to a game, but watching an 80 mph Buehrle throwing bad pitches VS a Ranger team full of .300 hitters wasnt going to be good for my blood pressure, and I wisely chose Health over Bad baseball.
  19. Been a long time since I was so pissed at the SOX that I simply decided to do something else with my evening ...... heh heh.
  20. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) I know most of you probably will think that is a ridiculous thing to do, but I've just about had it with poor execution and bad fundamental play, and it all boiled over in tonight's game It's time to get it together. Were you talking about Friday Nites game? or Saturdays? Or Thursdays game? or the KC game where we blew a 7 run lead?
  21. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) It doesn't matter at this point in the season whether we catch the Tigers. The team that is going to make or break our playoff chances is the Minnesota Twins. BEAT MINNESOTA!!! Minnesota is going to determine WHO wins this division. It will all now depend on if the Twinks can SWEEP the Tiggers for us .......... The SOX cannot lose 1 game. They MUST sweep the Twinks
  22. Have to admit this. I had tickets to Friday nites game. But with the SOX playing like garbage, The Rangers coming into town hitting a ton, and Mark Buehrle on the mound, I simply wasnt in the mood to go home afterwards in a BAD MOOD because the SOX and Buehrle got pummelled again while the Tigers just keep on winning. It was game time decision, but I simply pretended the SOX were off and went about my business. I am going tonite however, despite my not feeling good about tonites game either .......... maybe I can bark at Vazquez in the bullpen and keep him focused ........
  23. It used to be, every new SOX player got either 8 or 12 as their new Number.
  24. A "repeat" is rare, but its about time a team puts a Brick into the window of that theory
  25. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) Doesn't Riske, in essence, take Vizcaino's place? Doesn't Matt Thornton take Marte's place? No, and No.
