  1. ....hmmm..curious to know what "betting it all" really means....the house? the car? the wife and kids? ....better hold on to some money on the side just in case the season ends up like so many have in the past...
  2. ...that being said, I am stoked about the potential.....if these guys can play at the ml level like they have in the minors.....yikes, its scary!
  3. yep, and that's whats got me worried....they are THE four most critical defensive positions on the field and I question the lack of experience and leadership from these kids over a very long ml season...maybe one or two work out, but nobody should be overly enthused about the situation until we see some consistency and solid numbers from these guys come July/August....
  4. I don't know, maybe its just me, but I never really see too much of a difference in his size year to year....maybe the size of his head, but his body seems to be always HUGE. Let's hope Frank keeps his g-damn head out of his backside and his agent's office long enough to get us to the promised land!! ...because with a killer year from the hurt, we will scoremore runs than our d will give up to end up on top...
  5. Jose has been proven....he has hit 25 or more homers the past 3 years...and he makes a lot of errors...so what. He gets the job done. For the runs he gives up defensively, he makes up with his power and timely hitting. Jose's good Jimenez will be fine as well....and at catcher, we atleast have a good defensive guy in Miguel....I'm worried about CF, and that is it....will it be Rowand, Borchard or Harris or maybe someone else? That is my only concern. Ok, I will take back the comment on ss....Valentin is a proven commodity, but I still stand firm with regards to Olivo, Jiminez and the Rowand/Borchard/Harris situation...the may be fine, but they are still unproven, and we have seen and been talking very optimistically over the past few Feb's about how great the unproven guys will be and how they don't seem to always pan out.... ...don't mind me, I just happen to be in the pessimistic mood today.....tell me I shouldn't worry.....
  6. Fantastic article...he hit alot of good points...I also agree that the catcher position might be another problem for us....especially if Olivo can't quite post numbers which would warrant him to start....unfortunately, I can see a scenerio that has Olivo down in AAA at the start of the year, with Alomar in the SL with Paul as backup....then, around June 8th, Alomar goes down with a knee and Paul cracks the lineup and maintains his steady 220 avg....JM finally has enough, and by Sept 1, gives Olivo a shot....only by then its too much Paul and Harris and Valentin and the Twinkies finish on top...sigh.....let's hope I'm wrong....
  7. ...on the one hand, my jeans get a bit tight thinking about how the sox could go deep into october....however, I still can't sleep at night thinking that the c, 2b, ss and cf positions are being given to relatively untested and unproven guys at the ml level....anybody got any valium?
  8. let's face it, the key qualities to a good cf, imo, is speed and brains...he must act as the quarterback in a way and be able to hit the gaps hard and make the right throws....thats why to me, the key youngster for the sox must be roward...if he gets healthy and produces big time, then a big concern (vis a vis) the middle of the field and the cf position is a solution that we wouldn't have to deal with for the next 10 years....
  9. Sox Deserve Ringing Praise for this Move By the way, is this guy Downey new to the Trib?
  10. ....sigh....used to go 20 or so times a year when I lived in the south side...now, I live in London and go zero times....all I can say is thank god for the web, broadband and soxnet!
  11. I'm guessing its a sumo from Japan. He's either a famous sumo wrestler throwing out an opening day pitch or he's one of KW's latest prospects lurking somewhere in his own "area 51"....stay tuned....
  12. You gotta like Rollins....the kid's only 24 with a tremendous amount of upside...can steal bases (46 last year only caught 8 times)...walked a respectible 55 times and can still hit with some power (15 dingers)...hits from both sides pretty evenly and can throw the leather as well (.980 last year with only 14 errors)..the question is: is he worth Jose and Rauch?.....all depends on Rauch's potential....we know what Jose can do and if I were the Phils, I wouldn't do that deal straight up....no way....but would the sox be willing to give up on someone who can potentially get you 20 wins a season....it could be another chance for KW to ship one of our babies to PA just to watch them grow up and be the goods.....we just might be giving them too much.....
  13. Exactly....why would Boros ever allow KR to sign a deal for $$ under 1-1.5 a year when he refused a deal in the 4+ range a few months ago....and I can't believe that Boros would include those bogus incentives relating to attendence that Lofton agreed to.... Rogers would make cents if JR would ok it since their only lefty option is Stewart and he is just not ready yet.....a solid vet with a good trackrecord for accumulating innings...and as we all know, innings is everything....
  14. ....yeah, except I know if I send this message to some of my buds back in nyc, they are so dumb they may actually believe this article is legit.....lol.... here's to a great 2003 for our beloved sox!!!
