  1. Clujer, man....talk about opening up the perverbial can of worms.....gonna stay very much away from that comment....for now....
  2. Wow. $2 mil plus another half in incentives....well, then, good for him...I guess you have to give the Twinkies some credit by opening their wallets and filling that #5 spot with a veteran...
  3. ...curious....how much do you guys have to filter out, anyway?....I mean, how many Cub/Tribe/Twinkie fans try to come on a f*** with the boards?
  4. Oh man, I can't wait until that inevitable day when Rogers gets the start against our boys....wonder if there will be any added incentive or any comments made in the clubhouse about showing this guy what team he COULD have been on? Would love to know the details of the deal....can't imagine they offered more than the Sox did....not at this late date....
  5. First, congrats to all of you and good luck on will be a difficult and trying month getting yourselves set up....i've done enough system conversions and know that they can often be a very time-consuming and painstaking experience and that most people don't even realize the work involved....I really appreciate the effort you guys are willing to take to move this project forward and wish you guys nothing but the best.... That said, I am also concerned about the PAY potential, but it sounds like you guys are pretty serious about your feelings....that's comforting.... I am concerned, as well, that these boards might get filled up with garbage that we have to filter out.....what makes the place so rewarding and enjoyable is that I know I can come on and immediately read comments from people knowledgable and dedicated to the subject matter....not a bunch of crap unrelated and illegible.....how do we keep these boards from becoming like all the others?
  6. Nice. Second night in a row getting the play by play....many thanks Clujer..... White will definately be on a tight leash, and we may have to deal with some s***ty innings from him early...but, if he fails, I am confident that we have depth from the righthanded side that would easily fill his shoes... Another strong outing by our starters....I think Stewart might have upped his chances of getting that 5 spot (if Wright needs some more time to mend)....I know how much they'd love to have a second lefty in the rotation and 1 run, 4 inning stints don't hurt....
  7. Bitter after being snubbed for membership in the "Axis of Evil," Libya, China and Syria today announced that they had formed the "Axis of Just as Evil," which they said would be more evil than that stupid Iran-Iraq-North Korea axis President Bush warned of in his State of the Union address.Axis of Evil members, however, immediately dismissed the new Axis as having, for starters, a really dumb name. "Right. They are just as evil . . . in their dreams!" declared North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. Everybody knows we're the best evils . . . best at being evil . . . we're the best." Diplomats from Syria denied they were jealous over being excluded, although they conceded they did ask if they could join the Axis of Evil. "They told us it was full," said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. "An axis can't have more than three countries," explained Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "This is not my rule, it's tradition. In Worl! d War II you had Germany, Italy, and Japan in the evil Axis. So, you can only have three, and a secret handshake. Ours is wickedly cool." International reaction to Bush's Axis of Evil declaration was swift, as within minutes, France surrendered. Elsewhere, peer-conscious nations rushed to gain triumvirate status in what has become a game of geopolitical chairs. Cuba, Sudan and Serbia announced that they had formed the "Axis of Somewhat Evil," forcing Somalia to join with Uganda and Myanmar in the "Axis of Occasionally Evil," while Bulgaria, Indonesia and Russia established the "Axis of Not So Much Evil Really as Just Generally Disagreeable." With the criteria suddenly expanded and all the desirable clubs filling up, Sierra Leone, El Salvador, and Rwanda applied to be called the "Axis of Countries That Aren't the Worst But Certainly Won't Be Asked to Host the Olympics."Canada, Mexico and Australia formed the "Axis of Nations That Are Actually Quite Nice But Secretly H! ave Some Nasty Thoughts About America," while Scotland, New Z! ealand and Spain established the "Axis of Countries That Want Sheep to Wear Lipstick." "That's not a threat, really, just something we like to do," said Scottish Executive First Minister Jack McConnell. While wondering if the other nations of the world weren't perhaps making fun of him, a cautious Bush granted approval for most axis, although he rejected the establishment of the "Axis of Countries Whose Names End in 'Guay," accusing one of its members of filing a false application. Officials from Paraguay, Uruguay, and Chadguay denied the charges.Israel, meanwhile, insisted it didn't want to join any Axis, but privately world leaders said that's only because no one asked them. Just kidding.
  8. You know...I am impressed....after reading yesterday's thread where HSC's knowledge was being questioned, here it is a day later an article stating details on the post contract-talk spin trumpeted by KW and the subsequent response from Berry... A day later....kinda nice getting the goods the day before it hits the papers....keep up the great work, HSC and thanks for keeping us up to date on BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY.....
  9. Thanks for reposting the article....there's still a long way to go before we can put this issue to bed, but I am really encouraged by the actions of those 16 guys in our clubhouse who are standing up for what they believe...
  10. 110 miles per hour???????????? Wow, I think Hawk was smoking a bit two much from his exaggeration pipe....I mean, Nolan threw early in his career around 101, I think, and Bob Feller might have been there as well, but 110??? No f***ing way.
  11. It will be very interesting to see what will happen to the game over say, the next 20 years with regards to hitting and the impact of steroid use. I wonder if we will look back to the late 90's and notice that guys like McGuire and Bonds were the last guys to hit 60-70 homers let alone 50....and that guys are winning the hr crown with 35 or 38 a year.... I will tell you this....if we start to see the power stats, hrs, rbis and slugging % dramatically drop off this year, or we see a consistent decline in the numbers over the next few years, don't believe anyone who says its because the pitching is getting worse....nope....its because maybe Fat Wells and JoseC were right - that most of the players were juiced.... To all the dope addicts in mlb..... :fyou for trying to ruin our game.
  12. Thanks alot Clujer....just got home and was searching around for the box score...all I could find was the final score from espn, cnnsi, fox or cbs or mlb but no box score...thanks a bunch for filling me in on the game... Was Frank's performance awesome or what?
  13. I agree. Loaiza is looking pretty damn good. They might put him in the #4 spot and put Wright in #5 because he won't really be able to get all his spring innings in. Agree 100%. Right now it makes no sense to push Wright too much this early on...let's get his f***ing elbow healed by keeping his innings in the 70-80 range and bring him on slowly....as for Rauch, I think he's going down to pitch in a consistant basis (smart move) and we will definatley see him by summertime....as for Heredia and Stewart? ...a release and a reassignment in that order...
  14. Well....I think its pretty easy to explain..first of all, Perry only pitched with the Indians after McDowell and Tiant were gone...second, after those two, you had those classic pitchers of yesteryear such as: Steve Hargen, Dick Ellsworth and Sonny Siebert following them in the rotation...a s*** bullpen with nobody you can ever remember and a lineup that was filled with nobody's like Joe Azcue, Fred Whitfield, Vern Fuller, Max Alvis, Larry Brown, Leon Wagner, an aging Vic Davalillo and an equalling aging Rocky Colavito..... ...pure and simple, they would have needed Koufax and Drysdale and maybe even Bob Gibson to have any chance....they just sucked.
  15. Ah, I think you're talking about Ryne Duren.....played for the Yankees in the late 50's early 60's....a career 1.1 K's/inning guy.....he was one of those guys that could bring it close to 100 but was, in fact, very wild, so he not only scared the s*** out of the opposing batter, but also in the Yankee organization...I think he was an allstar a couple of seasons, but I think he had arm problems that shortened his career.... ...don't know if he was the fastest ever...didn't see him pitch.....I don't know, I will always tell my grandkids that when I watched this guy Nolan Ryan pitch early in his career, he seems to bring it faster than anybody. Period.
  16. Actually, he pitched for the Indians in the 60's and early 70's....yes, at 41, I can remember him pitching when I was, like 8 or something....I thought his problems were elbow related and thats what ultimately caused his career to be cut short.... He had a wicked fastball that had that Nolan Ryan movement to it....would kind of ride up an in on a righty...for a couple of season's, he was deadly.... Good ole Sudden Sam....kind of a headcase from what I can remember....
  17. True, he's had a bad past few days. However, he'll go to AAA, and if he does well, we very possibly could see him later in the year in a big-time game (if Kelly or Damaso struggle) -- so don't get too down on him, because we may need him at some point this season. Just a thought. What about Munoz?...everybody raved about this guy before ST started...looks like he's gonna need some more time in the minors....I still think he needs to develop a third pitch in order to be successful at this level.... It just seems that Porsio has 2 s***ty outings for 1 decent one......let's hope Wunsch and Marte both don't struggle or we're in deep s***....
  18. No way in hell he's going to or should make the cut....its off to AAA for him.....he f***ing sucks....
  19. Actually, Damaso pitched this past Saturday in the Cub game. Your right...as soon as I hit the send button I realized that....still, nice to see he's picking up right where he left off this winter....
  20. Box score from today's game....only printed the Sox numbers as I didn't really give a s*** about the Rockies..... some nice numbers that stand out...Maggs, Pauly and CLee hitting .529, .476, and .300 respectively so far this spring...Rios going 2-2 and hitting .368....Valentin, Frank, Maggs and Paul getting all the RBI's today....and of course, Mark's brilliant 5 inning 2 hitter.....oh yeah, nice to see Marte's inaugural ST inning with 2 K's....all in all a nice day.... 21. NOOOOO!!! Not an Ichiro jersey, a HAK AN jersey!!!!!!
  22. So what the hell is the Hak part? A second first name, a middle name or the beginning of his last name? Why the hell can't they make life easier for us? If I am not mistaken, Hak An Byeong would be his first, middle, and last..... kinda like Ichiro is the only player to have his "first" name on the back of his jersey when, in actuality, Ichiro is his last name. Confused? Good. So am I His agent has GOT to convince him to change his name.....to something like Sandy or Whitey, s*** we're used to.......sigh.....I mean who the hell would ever buy his jersey? ....let alone wear it...
  23. Well, he's definately pitching like he wants it....Heredia is also keeping himself in the running....geesh....its nice to have this depth, isn't it? ...especially given Wright's situation....
  24. ...so, getting an work done during afternoon games?
  25. ...the exact number I figure Maggs will hit this year although my gut says he'll have 3-4 multi-hr games.... ...as for Frank, I HOPE he doesn't hit 48 homers, cause I think he will be more productive and achieve a higher avg and obp hittin line drives all over the f***ing place hitting .335 and having a nice 32, 125 year... ...but of course if he ends up .335 WITH 48 dingers, I WON'T f***ING COMPLAIN!! Actually, I wouldnt mind seeing Thomas with 48 homers and a sub .280 average. I want MAGGS to be the one having all-around numbers, instead of trying to hit 40 somedin homers. Maggs is too valuable to be trying to swing to the fences all the time. I definately agree what your saying about Maggs, but the problem I see with Frank hitting less than 280 and having 48 homers is that his K's would probably be wll over 100... I mean, isn't that what we have CLee and Paulie for? Neither of these guys have shown that they can hit for average like Frank has done in his career.. ..I say Frank is too valuable to be swinging for the seats as well...
