  1. How about offering Devin a Contract that is DOUBLE the amount Dante Hall was offered for his big contract. ( Which I think was about 1.5-2 mil per)
  2. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) That's what I don't get. How does this part help anywhere else? If it's a salary dump, the Sox are saving less than $1 mil. Unless KW's pennies away from his spending limit and he wants to turn Cabrera into Lowe, I don't get it. If we turn Cabrera into Lowe, it was basically turning Garland into lowe. Yuck
  3. Looks like gosox41 gets to enjoy his team in sole possession of 1st for at least 1 more game.
  4. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) Well Hester saw everyone else getting paid, doesn't he have to right to think he should get paid as well? Especially since he's easiest the best offensive player that they have. sure he should get paid. But, why hold out? No one before him did. I agree, despite his rookie contract, he should get an extension and a raise. However, 6/45? Hopefully, JA let's him sit out.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) I just posted this quote in the Chris Williams thread a little while ago Kap. I have to agree. I wish I could walk in to work tomorrow and tell them my salary isn't cutting it anymore and I want some more. What a f***ing joke. Athletes these days are so out of touch. what makes the situation more comical is all the players he was in touch with today agreed with him!
  6. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) 200 innings a year, 111ERA+, 1.25 WHIP, and a huge GB/FB is 4th/5th starter material these days? sign me up I'd be more interested to add the count to a lowe trade contreras/Ocab for Lowe/?
  7. Bartman is smart not to do it. Unless the Cubs win it all, his demand will rise. 20/20 will be all over Bartman if he waits 20 more years. Ca-Ching!
  8. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) I'd definitely puke if they traded Uribe for Cora. Uribe is a better utillity guy than Alex Cora. Uribe is the best defensive third-baseman in the Sox organization. Although his batting is extremely streaky, he does have 20 HR power. He's also a top tier defensive SS and second-baseman. If they get some real value for Uribe, fine. But you don't trade him for an Alex Cora or a run-of-the mill "prospect". Exactly, Why help an opponent in a pennant race to save 2 mil and downgrade? Cora has 17 hits in 61 AB's WHOOPDEE DOO! He is still a career .245 hitter to me. Get him more AB's and his true colors will show. At least when Uribe hits .245 you know you have a glove and some pop to go with it.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) Way to blow your cover.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) Which they aren't. The only way I see CQ losing is because he is way behind in RBI. What Would CQ's stats look like with Hamiltons opportunities? With Runners on AB CQ 141 Josh 200 AVG CQ .348 Josh .320 OBP. CQ .451 Josh .361 SLG CQ .638 Josh .595 OPS CQ 1.089 Josh .956 At least we know MVP voters will look at very telling splits.

  12. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) I'll puke if we move Uribe just so we can overpay to get Brian Roberts and then trade a Type-A free agent for a #4-5 starter in Lowe. We've got plenty of options in AAA and our bullpen before we have to trade away O-Cab exactly.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) If they were to acquire Roberts, the #1 hole will be improved significantly. 1. You don't trade Cabrera to get Derek Lowe. 2 .What would we have to trade to get Brian Roberts? He won't come free.
  14. Yeah, let's trade our leadoff man. Good idea
  15. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 06:49 PM) Realistically, can the Bears even offer something like that right now? I thought they were close to the cap as-is. I doubt they could. That timely Urlacher deal obviously did not help towards the cap.
  16. BTW, before the hold out, I was all for Hester getting an extension. But no where near 6/45. I would be in favor of something like 6/30.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) Didn't the Bears actually step up when it came to Urlacher or man up. Urlacher held out and the Bears didn't really get serious with Brian until he finally returned to the team and at that point the Bears stepped up and made an offer that will keep him in Chicago for what will likely be the remainder of his career. Urlacher did not hold out, I credit him for that. However, he should not be whining in the middle of a long term deal. With a roster of 52 players and a salary cap a good portion of your roster has to be underpaid if you want to put out a competitive team on the field in a 32 team league. JA imo, had the perfect system of locking the young talents early. That system is worthless if you have to rip up the deal in a few years because the "outplayed" their contract. I say call Devin's Bluff for a few reasons: 1. He's under contract for 2 more seasons and will be fined 15K for every practice he misses. His annual salary at 445K will go into the negative after a month of missed practices. 2. He is currently a starting WR, his job to lose. What a way to lose it and diminish your value. I doubt he will let this happen. 3. The NFL is a "what have you done for me lately?" type of league. Does anyone remember the '06 Bears in '08 with the same D? No. Because of 2007. Hester is under contract 2 more years, His value is at it's peak right now and will only go down if he sits. 6 years/45 mil is what Devin wants. (unless he outplays his contract of course) The franchise would be paralyzed if he turned into Dante Hall II. In a salary cap League, I have to side with Ownership/Management
  18. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) Dear Catch All Thread, Please accept my humblest apology. I forgot that in order to be able to put up new threads, I needed to first sift through 66 pages of posts completely unrelated to each other. I will make sure I read the entire thread each and every day before putting up any new thread in the future. touche
  19. This is Urlachers Fault for b****ING and JA's Fault for giving in. Should have traded him. Believe it or not , principles go a LONG way. Have fun being a DOORMAT JA!
  20. why didn't you see me first? Sincerely, The Catch All Thread
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) what are the odds that the sox will still be in first after the next 7 games? 60%
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Was Young's homer far? was about a row back over the left-center wall.
  23. QUOTE (FranktheTank35 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Thanks for showing us why we are so happy you are no longer our starter, Uribe! Lazy throw, same old same old. I'm confused by this comment. Uribe's fielding, particularly his arm, has never been the problem.
  24. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) How generous is the gun gameday is using? It had all of Richard's pitches at 91-95, consistently at 93 vs. Kinsler. Not sure, Hawk and DJ are mentioning he is throwing 95.
