Reports: Rose will declare for NBA draft this week http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/ne...tory?id=3347737

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) I do hope they start cracking down on poor umpiring. Either that, or they already do and it just never gets any press. The umpires britches are a bit too big for their bottom's right now. I agree, these Umps should be held accountable.

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) As much as I want the Whitesox to win, I wouldn't mind at all if they finished second to the Royals. It's always nice to see a team that struggles for so long finally get their time at the top. Sorry, I would mind. I don't care for any of our divisional rivals. If you want an Underdog to root for, you have the Marlins.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) That ump was bad in that game. It usually annoys me when Hawk drones on about the umps, but it was a legitimate gripe in this game Usually, when DJ complains just as much as hawk, you know it's bad.

Frank had an outburst against the Umps a couple of weeks ago too. It has to tell you something when Frank and Jim go off on the umps in such a short time span. 3,000+ walks between them.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) I think I recall a time when he said all he cared about was hitting home runs, and nothing else. Link or it never happened.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) If kids come out of High School and fail to be drafted, they should be allowed to go to college and keep their amateur status. Well, they can if they don't hire an agent.

As a fan, I think an Age limit after the lottery would make most sense. At least they would not be preventing the Lebrons and Kobes from going pro.

I think by basically forcing college on someone, is going against an individuals civil liberties as an adult. If you are old enough to lose your life in Iraq, you should be Old enough to play a simple sport (that is if you are good enough to get drafted.) College can wait for these guys. If they can get a guaranteed 6 figures, you sign and don't look back.

Strong play by Sox may keep Owens in AAA
rangercal replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am happy with the team as is. Keep Fields, Owens and Richar in AAA unless a big trade happens. -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) Every team has holes, including this one. Juan and his .184 BA aren't doing the offense any favors. His D has been great at 2B, but when Richar is healthy, he should get a shot at 2B, no matter what the record is. yup beacause it's still early and we all know Richar will save this team with his .230 Avg

Freddy Who?

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 08:11 AM) Wow,whos decision was it to have El Duque? He isnt one I would have chose to represent that team.Wasnt he sent packing the next year? yeah because so many players from the 1920s-2004 were a bigger factor in bringing a championship home than El Duque. Duque's performance will live forever, might as have a momento somewhere.

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) That pitch practically ended Thigpen as an effective closer...it got to him seeing Steinbach carted off I'd say it was back problems that ended Thigpen as an effective closer.

Black Jack getting owned

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) I cannot wait to see the recruits he brings in very soon you got me

Everyone knew what he was doing. Just using OSU as leverage and getting KU to fall for it. Keep him he is SELFish

Against the Mets in 2002 (interleague play) . I stayed in the rain for 2 hours and figured to leave after that because of work the next morning. Well, they ended up playing that night. So instead of an expected rain check, I got zip. I should have known better with it being an interleague game.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) I beleive this forum went downhill when everyone was expected to go elsewhere for general information and then everything was thrown into a catch-all thread. Threads with 260 or even 26 pages do no good. What is wrong with starting a new thread for each new thought? It either gains legs and grows or falls to the next page. When I originally signed on to this site there were links to every Sox related story for the day and then a thread. I came here for one stop shopping. Game threads used to have a Play-by-Play feel to them now if you ask for this, someone will link you to MLB.com or some other site that may update you in 3 minutes with the correct information. Instead of a new thread a good topic is discussed in the game thread and never heard from again. The fact that the Sox have struggled has this site turning into a dump on the Sox and an advesarial mood and the content is really decreasing. I agree 100%

I liked the trade at the time. Can't fault KW on this one.

Danks (0-0) vs. Baker (1-0): MAKE IT SIX!

QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) I'll be watching this one from sec. 139, row 13. Still plenty of good seats available, cmon out! Hey Brooks, Whatsup. -
How much did these guys hurt us in 2007? Judge for yourself. It seems that Cabrera would not be so much of an upgrade over Iguchi at the # 2 slot in terms of OBP. Though, Iguchi only played 57 games at # 2, so Cabrera is a pretty big Upgrade over everyone else. Swisher at # 1 speaks for itself all the way around.

I am pretty far from declaring the White Sox will finish ahead of Detroit this year. But, I am starting to wonder if they can pass either Cleveland or Boston and New York for a playoff spot. It's really an equal combination of their bullpen woes and horrible start that has me second guessing their chances. To win 95 games (my projected magic # for a playoff lock*) , Detroit would have to go 95-60 the rest of the way with a .612 winning percentage. Which is equivalent to having a record of 99-63 if they started at that pace at 0-0. *Here is a look at the records of The AL Wild Card and Al Central Division Winners for the previous 3 seasons. AL Wild Card Winners 2007 New York 94-68 2006 Detroit 95-67 2005 Boston 95-67 AL Central Division Winners 2007 Cleveland 96-66 2006 Minnesota 96-66 2005 White Sox 99-63
