GAME THREAD 7-26-2005 SOX vs ROYALS
rangercal replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) Johnson perfect through 5 IP. Just 50 some pitches too... I think he hit a batter. Shannon Stewart IIRC -
From the mlb brewers board

WHat he says about Chuck Lamar and Terry Ryan. LaMar is a hard worker and a very serious guy. Ryan is a very serious and hardworking guy. LOL!!

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Hahaha. No way in hell Vizquel bats anywhere but 2nd. We have seen what Gooch can do when allowed to swing freely. My scenario Pods - LF Vizquel - SS Overbay - DH Dye - RF PK - 1B Rowand - CF Pierzynski - C Crede - 3B Gooch - 2B MB Freddy Jon Burnett Duque Contra Cotts Jizzcan Eyre Jenks Politte Hermy I would take either dream . get something done KW
-
My Dream scenerio would be Pods Lf gooch 2b Huff 3b Konerko 1b Carl/Frank DH Dye RF Rowand CF AJ C Vizquel ss Buehrle Garland Garcia Burnett El Duque Jenks Cotts Politte Hermanson Eyre Guardado Subtractions: Vizcaino Count Marte Uribe Crede Mccarthy Sweeney Tracey Shingo Borchard Diaz Additions: Huff Burnett Vizquel Eyre Guardado This is just a dream. We would probably need a couple more spects out of the subtraction column. Like I said this is just a dream.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) I agree. Anderson/Fields for Overbay is a good deal IMO. He could replace Frank/Carl and become our official DH and we could even switch he and PK on some days to get Overbay some time at 1st and PK at Dh. Ideal line-up: Pods- LF Vizquel - SS Overbay - DH Dye - RF PK - 1B Aaron - CF Pierzynski - C Crede - 3B Iguchi - 2B I don't think we could just froget about Carl like that. He has not hurt us.
-
wow, Im sorry to hear that. Thats a shame. Hope things get better for you.

QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) As I posted in another thread, Milwaukee isn't going to trade Overbay this season. They are going to wait until the offseason before they make a move with him. Are you the Brewers GM? The way I look it as is: 1 Milwaukee pretty much knows they have a very little shot to do anything this year. 2 Now might be the time to get peak value in return for overbay.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) He can play 3B yes, but not very well. If credes back is a problem down the stretch Huff would be a huge asset to have, regardless of his D.
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Ok, now it sounds like it beacme an either/or. I don't think we have the chips to get both Burnett and Huff or Overbay. If resigning Burnett is the roadblock, then that's a dead issue. Frank going down is huge now, very, very huge. It adds one more hole that we didn't expect to have to fix. I think we have enough for Overbay/burnett but not enough for Huff/Burnett
-
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I actually think that Overbay is at least as good as Huff. Not to mention that he'd probably cost less. Milwaukee's got Prince Fielder waiting in the wings, and I can see them being a lot more willing to trade Overbay then Tampa is to get rid of Huff. Every year, Huff's name seems to come up, and every year, the price tag appears to be too high for any team that is interested. I don't see Tampa taking Marte and McCarthy for Huff. But I could see Milwaukee taking the same for Overbay. Th e thing with huff is he can play 3rd. Thats what intrigues me.
-
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) I think the real question is: Would Huff/Overbay over Everett help more than Burnett/Schmidt over Contreras? I say no, but then again we would have Huff or Overbay for more than just this season which may not be the case for Burnett. If we were able to swing for one of each, the dream would continue... Huff would help more. He is a left-handed bat who always seems to heat up in August in spetember. ( when I say heat up I mean hit over .350) He can play 4 positions. With Credes back being a factor Huff would be a HUGE pick up.
-
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) Here's a question: would you give up the same amount for Huff as was proposed for Burnett (Marte & McCarthy)? And would that be enough in the minds of Tampa Bay? I say yes and no. I would give the same package. you are right though , most likely that would not be enough for Huff.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) overbay would be even better than huff maybe for the price we can get him at. Huff is a special player. Overbay is a good player. Big Difference.
-
Aubrey Huff would be a better pick up than Burnett or Schmidt IMO ,

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) No problem. I'm just as excited as you are in regards to all this trade talk. I'm going to be listening to the radio shows as much as I could until the deadline. This Overbay, Huff talk sounds really interesting... anyone got stats on these guys? We already know everything about Burnett. All I know Huff can play 1b, 3b, of, he is a left handed bat with power and hits for avg. He can turn our hitting woes around. Oh man Huff would be nice.
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) The latest scoreboard update on the score said that they Sox wan't nothing to do with Lowell now. They still are working on a trade to acquire Burnett however. Right now the onlything that is preventing it is the longterm deal issue. KW doesn't want to make a trade for a rent-a-player. It also said that KW is scouting rboth Huff and Overbay- due to Frank's health issues. Is this a sign that Frank might be done for the year??? HUFF , Burnett, Eyre, and vizquel

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) yesterday i was flipping channels after awhile. That was a torture to watch, we just dominated same here, I was switching back and forth from the O's - rangers game, sox game and the giants- cubs ( watching schmidt) . -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) Peter Gammons is a f***ing moron. How does he get away with this s***. A.J. BURNETT WAS HURT IN 2003, HE DID NOT PITCH IN THE POSTSEASON. HE HAS ABSOLUTLY NO POSTSEASON EXPERIENCE. That is just disgraceful. I agree. Gammons gets paid for this s***? :headshake
-
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) Latest Gammons update The Fish cannot sign Burnett away from free agency, and the fireballing right-hander has made it clear that he probably wouldn't sign an extension with the White Sox but would with the Red Sox if the money is right. The White Sox have the best record in baseball without Burnett. The Red Sox lead the AL East by 1½ games and essentially haven't had their most important 300 innings -- the combination of Curt Schilling as a No. 1 starter and Keith Foulke as a premier closer. A month from now, as they prepare to play 24 of their last 36 games at Fenway Park, they could have Schilling and Foulke in place. Still, both the White Sox and Red Sox keep thinking that October is the power pitching month, and that Burnett, along with Rich Harden, might have the best stuff in the game. Of course, the Marlins know that, and are just two years removed from seeing how important his stuff is in October. Im sure he was hurt in 2003 and didn't play in the WS

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) Sweeney and Marte for Burnett. :) :) :D :D If this were to be true, I wonder If bmac would still be used in a different deal.

QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Little bit more info: http://www.timesonline.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14920433&BRD=2305&PAG=461&dept_id=478568&rfi=6 Thus, there has been speculation the Chicago White Sox could become involved in a three-team trade with the Pirates and Marlins. The White Sox have two top outfield prospects at Class AA Birmingham - Ryan Sweeney and Chris Young - and could package one of those along with left-handed reliever Damaso Marte in a deal with the Marlins for right-hander A.J. Burnett. The Marlins would then send Sweeeny or Young to the Pirates for Redman. July 31st couldn't get here soon enough! I am drained with all of these speculations... So we would still have BMAC

screw this "who do you want to win the WC" talk

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) Gotta love the newbies who come in looking for a fight... I don't see how this is looking for a fight Greg is just posting his opinion. He's also been here 3 months. Considering how many new people joined in the last month alone,(since the soxtalk plug from hawk at least ) he should be considered a vet . -
