QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) I thought this thread was for things most people would like that you hate. I doubt most people like obstructed escalators. sorry , kinda got soaked in this thread and fell off course a little.

I don't care for college basketball as much as I do for the NBA. I just don't think 6 foot white guys should be able to dominate basketball the way they do in college. I don't care for most domestic beers (Miller,Bud and Coors) I feel a majority of people who drink that crap on a regular basis are people swayed in by marketing and not the quality of the product. I despise most top 40 music. If it's popular, I probably hate it. I am tired of family guy. A bunch of funny lines thrown together, and some poor jerk has to draw a story around it. I hate people who have to fill their Myspace pages with so many crap songs, pictures and videos that it takes 5 minutes to load . I hate groups of people who stand side by side on an escalator blocking any attempt to walk around them. (this is especially annoying at an airport)

Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) And I doubt the Sox have enough money to give him. Garland won't be back with the Sox. With the money saved with Javy/Ocab/Swish how do the sox not have money to give him? Not saying I want Kenny to sign him, just saying I am pretty sure the money is there. Unless you see a dramatic drop in payroll. Which could be the case I suppose. -
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) I'm assuming you were looking at hoopshype just like me. You have to figure out what is actually counted in the yearly totals when you're doing the cap math, it doesn't automatically count the team options (though I think it does for player options). The $27 mil only counts the multi-year contracts of Deng, Hinrich and Nocioni, it doesn't count the $5.55 mil "option" for Rose, the $3.2 mil option for Noah, or the qualifying offers for Tyrus, Thabo and Simmons ($6.23 mil for Tyrus, $3.86 for Thabo and $3.74 for Simmons). I'd hope that they just out-right Simmons at that price, but I have a hard time seeing them do the first two given our history with core players. Yeah, I just caught that too with the 27 Mil. We are still in a decent position for 2010. The salary cap should be at about 60 Million. we may not have 50 Million to spend like NY or Det (but how much do you really need for 1 major signing) . If we deal Noc and/or Kirk, it puts us in position for a 2010 run especially if we let Gordon walk. I still think we can re-sign Gordon (it would have to be no more than 10 mil per) and make a run. If we can't deal Noc or Kirk for cap space, then we should just let Ben walk.
-
Where do you get your Numbers from Zoom? Gooden and Hughes come off the books the next 2 offseasons and I mentioned trading Noc. How would we be in salary cap trouble? Only 27 Mil is on the books for the summer of 2010.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) Would you do LaFrentz + something for Deng, if it got you enough cap-space to sign a major FA in 2010? And it won't matter for the Bulls if they have Derrick Rose, if they're going to be horribly coached and have sub-par talent put around him. I would not do that. Deng is at his lowest value right now. His splits have improved every month so far this season.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) ATM, how much space will the Bulls have in 2010, if they stand pat? I assume the contracts of Rose, Noah, Deng, Hinrich and Nocioni will be on the books, and that's not to mention the possible re-signings of Ben Gordon and maybe Tyrus Thomas (not sure if he's a FA in 2010 or 2011). all the Bulls have to do is unload nocioni for a 2010 expiring and they could be Major players (that includes also re-signing Gordon). I really don't think that is all that far fetched. I don't understand how you could assume the Bulls won't sign a 2010 FA and the knicks will. That is very unfair and unrealistic analysis when comparing the 2 franchises. Anything can happen in the next 18 months. The Bulls are in position where they don't have impossible contracts to trade. Everyone is young and have reasonable contracts to move. (Maybe outside of Deng, which I would not want to move at his lowest value anyway) The problem lies in Pax. I suspect he does not want to pull the trigger unless he is getting above market value.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) The Knicks don't have Derrick Rose. Thusly, they are not in a better position. When your best young player is Wilson Chandler or David "No D" Lee, I just can't buy into what you're selling. are we clones?
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Hence why the Bulls are in a bad position right now. I'd even say the Knicks are in a better position than Chicago is right now. They have a better coach, players who will want to play for that team now, and they'll have the cap-space to sign 2 big-time FA's in 2010, depending on what they do with David Lee (who's playing at an all-star level right now). Paxson got interviewed in the Sun-Times and basically absorbed all blame, saying VDN shouldn't get any. Both should be fired though. The Knicks are not in a better position. They have cap space for 2010? So do the Bulls (+ Rose). Though, I won't go on record and say that the Bulls position is dramatically better than NY. It is pretty close to even.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) Has anyone played SOCOM Confrontation recently? How much has the game improved with the latest updates? I so badly want to play Desert Glory on the PS3 but I'm not going to buy a bad game in order to do so. why not rent it first?

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) As long as no laws or Soxtalk rules are broken, I don't mind. OH Really? what if he asks for something like this http://www.ehow.com/how_2148686_change-gra...g-position.html -
I'm tired of waiting , but I agree. We have to have some shot at one of those big time FA's. Has it really been 10 years since MJ retired (with the bulls)?

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) Who has a point? I'm just having fun. A.J. "Miller Time" Barthold. Jeremy "Do The Dew" Kelly I don't really like Miller. That's usually the default choice at sox games though. I'm usually too lazy to make a trip to the beers around the world stand.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) RCal hits it on the head again. K-ni. I don't expect everyday people to be nicknamed "hammerin'" , "the Yankee Clipper" or "The Sultan of Swat". So I really don't see your point.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) I honestly think, and this is all me, I've seen nothing to prove it, that the Bulls would be NUTS to not make an offer for Elton Brand. Gooden, Noah, Nocioni and a pick. The 76ers have proven they play better without him (8 game winning streak of recent until they lost the other night), and Brand has proven he's not even close to 100%. However, you let Brand rest most of the rest of the season (limited minutes, keep him in game shape though) and put him on a workout regimen to improve the strength in his legs and shoulders. Next year, you have a very solid base where Deng can begin doing what he does best: slashing, and Rose can set them both up. Having Gordon around would be bonus, but he's likely gone. we have nothing to lose at this point.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) ok, A.J. Seriously though. You would think there could be more creative nicknames for these world class athletes. I guess I'm just spoiled by Hawk's creativity.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Well, look at the 2005 season, when we weren't even an alleged contender (I know this is yet further condemnation of the idea of judging a season before spring training starts, as I tried to do in another thread). 1) Nobody knew anything about Iguchi, besides the fact that KW had scouted him through tape and what he got/expected to get in terms of a contract were very divergent....maybe because of K. Matsui's failure with the Mets. 2) Takatsu was already suspected to be a one-trick pony, and nobody had a clue of the emergence of Hermanson (especially), Cotts or Politte. 3) Nobody knew how AJ would do in a "crazy" clubhouse coming off the gossip/innuendo of that SF year. 4) Did El Duque have anything left (similar to concerns about Colon, Contreras and maybe Garcia) 5) Pods was coming off a season when he hit around .240 in the NL 6) We'd lost Valentin, Ordonez and Carlos Lee, three of our best power hitters....we're replacing much less in the line-up this year (Swisher, Cabrera, Uribe/Crede and Griffey) 7) Nobody knew what we could get out of Frank Thomas at that point... 8) Garland and Contreras, especially, had never proven themselves to be "big game" or anything but average MLB pitchers...especially Jose, who would morph/evolve into the best in the game for a period of almost one year 9) Brandon McCarthy was another Sox prospect/suspect with high expectations and no clear idea what he'd produce 10) Jermaine Dye...nobody had an idea what he would do for the next four seasons either, coming off injuries and signing for less with Chicago than he could have gotten elsewhere, he was just seen as a "high reward/low risk" signing, but anyone who predicted MVP numbers consistently, I would like to see that thread/post/message. I felt pretty optimistic prior to the 03-04 and 05 seasons. I don't know feel the same this year.

A certain LF for the Sox who was a leading AL MVP candidate late in the season should be considered. I realize he is a corner outfielder, but so are Ryan Braun and Matt Holliday.
