  1. I was thinking the same thing the other day. I'm all for signing the scrappy 3B. I would love to send Crede in some package to get Aubrey Huff.
  2. It's not a bad thing, just unnecessary. All food still has to pass USDA/FDA inspection, mandatory labeling is pretty pointless. If you're that concerned with buying U.S., it doesn't take much to check it out before you buy.
  3. The reports of Beltran becoming the best player in baseball are grossly overstated, IMHO.
  4. I think a lot of the arguments on this topic are due to certain terms not meaning the same things to all people. I don't know if any religion can claim ownership of the word marriage-- does the word itself have any religious connotations I'm not aware of? If not, than Crimson's right--it's the same thing. But, if the term does have some religious meaning to it, then no, it's not the same thing. However, being able to say you are "married" has nothing to do with why gays want to be married anyways--they correctly only demand the same rights and protections that CIVIL laws grant to straight people. Winodj can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure he doesn't give two s***s about whether it's called marriage, civil union, dynamic duoship, or butt-pirates squared-- he just wants to not have to pay double health insurance premiums due to the fact that he and his partner's relationship isn't deemed legally binding.
  5. He hardly took any heat over it, because nobody wanted the airport there anymore. I wouldn't let Springfield tell me how to run my city either.
  6. Seriously. Am I not correct when I think I saw somewhere that the second largest chunk of the nation's tax revenues go to welfare programs?(1st was defense)
  7. Well, yes. I never held the president responsible for the actions of some 20-year old hillbilly manly-girl. How is Meigs Field a sign of corruption? From everything I've heard/read, most people(myself included) have no problem with the mayor removing Meigs. The only people who didn't like it are whiny business exec's who now have to get a ride in from O'Hare or Midway.
  8. He's the mayor of the third largest city in the country. Why would he know the day-to-day dealings of every department? It's like saying the Superintendent of one of the largest school districts in the world should be considered corrupt because he didn't stop a group of 8th graders at Smith Jr. High from intimidating kids out of their lunch money.
  9. Right. The reason to elect Kerry was that Bush is a ....... ah, forget it. :fthecubs
  10. Ugh, the economy's performance and job losses/gains have so much to do with a billion other factors that I can't believe anyone still thinks because candidate A or candidate B is in office, the economy is magically going to change in 3 months.
  11. The key word there is, "moderate." And I agree, Daley is a Democrat in name only. If more republicans were like him philosophically(sp?), I'd be a republican.
  12. Dolphins Bengals Chiefs Jets Raiders Eagles Lions Giants Chargers Seahawks Broncos Rams Ravens Colts
  13. I believe the Sox tied the Yankees for most HR's in the AL this year, and the Sox's staff ERA was the second worst in baseball. Hudson for Konerko.................YES!
  14. Excellent! Thanks for the link CC
  15. Speaking of Edwards, I read somewhere that a big factor in the flu vaccine crisis was a lawsuit in which Edwards was involved. Allegedly, 90% of flu vaccines used in the U.S. were once made by American companies, who were doing it essentially as public service, seeing as the profit margin was tiny. Well, some guy in North Carolina got a flu vaccine one year, and then wound up catching the flu. He sued the vaccine manufacturer for millions and won, and after that, American companies all but stopped producing flu vaccines due to the risk of lawsuits. Since then, we've had to buy flu vaccines from other countries, where they have anti-frivolous lawsuit policies in place. The N.C. guy's lawyer in that case was John Edwards. Anyone else hear this? Or is this some urban myth or something?
  16. I just find it hard to believe that one is devoted to anything after such a short time, especially when there is evidence that suggests you very well may change again in the near future.
  17. I think it's laughable that this writer called Bush a "devout Methodist." Methodist is his third religion in what, 7-8 years? I'm I devout White Sox fan, I started cheering for them in 2001. As a direct descendant of John Wesley, maybe I should have tried to kick Bush out of the Methodist church before the election.
  18. Bush winning does NOT make him any more or less stupid or moronic.
  19. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

    Sex Education

I don't see why abstinence information can't be included in a comprehensive sex-education program. You don't have to push it, or shame kids into it, just make kids aware that it's the only fail-safe way to avoid the "unwanted results." Although I wonder sometimes-- never once in driver's ed. was it mentioned that the only way to completely avoid being killed in a car crash is to not drive at all, and I bet the odds of a driver getting hurt or killed in an accident(even with seat belts on) are way higher than the odds you'd get a disease or pregnant from sex with condoms.

    Frisky Germans!

  22. In 16 years of catholic school I heard that lesson a billion times. And it remains one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.
  23. OK Steff, these people you know that are lukewarm, would they be OK with it if tomorrow Roe vs Wade was overturned, and abortion became illegal under any circumstances?
  24. I would say that anyone who would use the qualifying statement "depends on the situation" is definitely pro-choice. Pro-lifers don't believe in abortion under any circumstances.
