  1. An ominous sign?: Sox vs. Det since 2000: 2000, 9-3 2001, 13-6 2002, 12-7 2003, 11-8 2004........................10-9?
  2. NO! I am Wong! I agree with you, to a degree. I think that parents should absolutely be the main source of sexual info, but as we all know, a lot of people who become parents are idiots. Should a kid suffer because a parent is too clueless, or too uncomfortable to talk to them about sex? If they won't do it, somebody should.
  3. Good job with the description. Yes, that makes sense. But, when I think about it, I think I could make my current computer just as powerful as anything on the market today, if I just gave it more cowbell.
  4. I think normal kids are very curious about sex at 15, and many experiment with it, even if it's not going so far as to include intercourse. I think that through discussion of the possible ramifications of sexual conduct, the point would be very clear that abstinence would be the safest route to take. No, I would have had the "sex talk" at about 13, then asked her if she remembered our discussion before she went out with the Bill-meister. If what I told her was augmented/enhanced by a schoolroom discussion with her peers, then all the better. No, but kids ARE taught about all the things that can happen IF you drink and drive. Of course not. Where did this come from? I don't think teaching kids about how even oral sex can get you some gonorrhea would lead to them thinking they can screw in their room all day.
  5. Why? It makes sense to me. One of the guys on the radio(Dan McNeil, I think) always complained that Gretzky was overrated because he didn't transcend the game ala Michael Jordan, and that he didn't really make the players around him better. With this stat analysis to go along with that, it sounds right to me
  6. I was especially intrigued by #3. http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2579652?GT1=4244
  7. What the hell is hyperthreading? Some computerized sewing program?
  8. I don't think that's realistic. High school kids have had sex since the dawn of high schools. If over a hundred years of avoiding the topic doesn't tell you it's not working, then I'm not sure what will. IMO, you'll get much farther with kids by informing them of the repercussions of their actions rather than telling them just not to do it without telling them why. Getting plenty of rest helps keep STD's away? C'mon, that's just idiotic. Is the "Masturbation makes you go blind" theory in there too?

    Sorry Tex

But your state education system is run by some verrrrrry repressed people : http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5469437/?GT1=4244
  10. Mark doesn't quite have the control yet to be an ace. Most ace's have dominating fastballs--Buehrle does not. He would need to be an ace in the Maddux/Glavine mold, but he doesn't have the command that either of them did in their primes. But who cares? He's an excellent pitcher, capable of beating any team on most nights.
  11. That was another concern of mine. Are Pc's still better on most levels? Or have the Macs caught up yet? I haven't owned an Apple since I had a IIe way back when. I'm more comfortable with pc's, but if mac's are really better, I'd be willing to learn how to use one.
  12. OK, so I am going to be buying a new home computer soon, and because I get older and less hip by the second, I have lost track of the level that processing technology is reaching these days. Could someone get me up to speed as to what specs are top of the line these days, what specs are a year or two old, and what specs are way past relevance? I'm talking processor speed, memory capacity, etc. Also, which brands are best? I hear Dell or Micron. Does that sound right? I mainly use the computer for burning cd's, and the internet. Any help would be much obliged!
  13. This series has me verrrrrrry worried. Although we are on the road, what does it say if we can't beat a young team that's under .500 when we have our 2 best pitchers going? It's not about numbers--obviously being 2.5 games back isnt the end of the world. It's more of a statement that needs to be made.
  14. If my memory is correct, this bunch of schlepps are playing sub-.500 baseball from June 1st up to now. They need to get rolling, and beating a couple of good pitchers is a fine way to start.
  15. MLB.com's Tom Singer reports the Texas Rangers are interesting in acquiring Arizona Diamondbacks OF Steve Finley, Diamondbacks OF Danny Bautista or Colorado Rockies OF Jeromy Burnitz. Quandry: Hmmm, let's see, we're first in runs scored, top 3 in home runs, top 3 in batting average, and we're currently in first place. Our starting rotation includes the likes of Joaquin Benoit, John Wasdin and Ryan Drese. Solution: More power-hitting outfielders! John Hart has gone quite mad.
  16. Duuuuuude, those are way too many numbers. I need a Ho-Ho.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  17. Overwhelming numbers? I don't know about that. Miles has a higher average, but that's in about 50 less at-bats, and in Coors Field. Given the way Uribe is playing lately, however, how anyone could not even CONSIDER taking Miles over Uribe is goofy. Since they are both young, there's really no way to tell which one is better yet. I have a feeling that Miles' numbers will look better this year, but Uribe's will look better over the long run--unless he continues to idiotically ditch the opposite-field mentality in favor of mucho strikeouts and the occasional homer. It's time to put Willie back in the leadoff hole. He wasn't playing all that badly when he lost his job, Uribe was simply outplaying him at that point(Uribe was outplaying almost everyone in baseball back in May). I like Willie's approach at the plate(the incessant first pitch fake-bunts notwithstanding), he's a lefty, and he's got speed. Put him there and leave him there.
  18. Jacque Jones has a bad memory. Taking the N.L. teams out of the equation, these are Minny's records vs. every AL team: Clev; 4-2 Det; 5-7 k.c.; 8-5 Tor; 4-2 Ana; 0-2 Sea; 4-2 Oak; 1-2 Chi; 3-7 t.b; 2-5 bos; 2-1 They only have winning or even records against Cleveland, KC, Toronto, Seattle and Boston -- only Boston has an above.500 record out of all those teams. Note that they still have yet to play Texas, or the Yankees, have played only 2 vs. Anaheim, and have 13 more vs. an improved Cleveland team. Now, here are the Sox's records vs AL teams: K.C.; 4-1 NYY; 3-4 T.B.: 4-2 clev; 5-4 tor; 3-4 balt; 4-2 minn; 7-3 tex; 2-1 ana; 3-3 oak; 1-5 sea; 4-2 The Sox have won or tied series' vs. KC, Tampa, Clev, Balt, Minn, Tex, Anaheim, and Seattle. 3 of those teams are above .500. The Sox have many more games vs. the Royals, haven't even played Detroit, and are done with the Yankees and most of their west coast games. They have an underachieving, collapsing-under the-pressure Boston team, and 10 more with Cleveland, but that's about it. What Jacque Jones doesn't realize is that while they haven't been playing well, they've been not playing well against the lesser teams in the AL(Tampa, Detroit. Just losing 3 of 4 to KC). As it killed the Sox last season, you're in big trouble if you cant beat the teams underneath you. The only weaker team the Sox have a losing record against is Toronto, and they played them when Toronto was still maybe a darkhorse contender before all their injuries hit.
  19. Welcome to the AL Central, where 82 wins guarantees a division title!
  20. He vetoed the trade because he lives in Seattle, and didn't want to leave. Now that staying in Seattle isn't an option, he said he'll look for somewhere to play this season. He did say he still wants to play though.
  21. Not having to look at Jorja Fox's bulldog face ever again is good news to me.
  22. I heard that Dioner Navarro is largely overrated though. What I'm afraid of is a Lofton, Bernie, Navarro and other prospects for Unit and Finley.
