Sure, there are lots of people that don't like him, but we live in a democracy(at least, for now) and Stern's ratings indicate that a MAJORITY of people are OK with the degree of "indecency." If the PEOPLE were so outraged at how inappropriate Stern's show is, then why does he have 18 million listeners? I agree that some of things that are talked about on his show are not appropriate for younger children, but I think the harm they can cause is greatly overstated. I also think that, while the gov't has some responsibility to protect the general public, I just don't agree with the way in which the current administration is going about doing it, nor do I agree with the levels it wants to set. For example, discussing "excretory bodily functions" would be considered indecent. Gross?, maybe. Indecent?, hardly. I certainly don'y want gov't censoring the discussion of a bodily function that is common to every human being on the planet starting from birth. Just because some people think it's disgusting does not make it even close to subject matter that would be potentially harmful to children. It's poop for f***'s sake.

The problem with this is that, with the ratings he gets, it's obvious that the PEOPLE don't have a problem with Stern's level of lewdness. Isn't government's primary function to act on behalf of the people's wishes? And that's not even the point. The scary thing here is how a radio DJ that speaks unfavorably about the president is yanked off the air, coincidentally only in markets where Bush needs a strong showing to win the election. Where was this uproar back when Stern was supporting the president? And if his show is so indecent, why is he not taken off in all markets? And what credentials does Michael Powell have to decide what is and isn't indecent? All this is sickening. There's lots of young'uns on this board, and I encourage them all very strongly to help vote Bush out in November.
  3. Does southsiderod = Frank Thomas? Someone check his IP address and see if it's coming from Tucson.
  4. Er, relax, I am not "calling you out" on a stupid message board. I was referring to southsider's statement about screennames that indicate the user is female.
  5. You mean like, "Controlled Chaos and the Women Who Love it" or maybe, "Men are from Mars, Controlled Chaos is from Venus"
  6. Great stuff, Apu, I couldn't agree more.
  7. If you are smart about it, it's a non-issue. Sure, birth control isn't 100% guaranteed, but nothing in life is.
  8. Not a chance as long as he's putting up a 2:1 BB/K ratio in B games. The only chance he has of earning a long relief spot is if Steff and her husband are into swinging.

    Dog Help

Everyone gave some good tips, but if you think any of them will have a dog completely potty-trained in 2 weeks, you're kidding yourself. It's gonna take a little longer than that.

  11. No, I'm saying the rape "rate" is probably exactly the same as it was in 1960. The "fact" that there are more of them in every state now means absolutely nothing, for the reasons I mentioned before. It's like saying auto thefts are up now, because more cars get stolen today than in 1960. Technically, that is correct, but it means nothing in reality, and it's certainly not any kind of fact that would be used to back up any theory regarding whether people have become more kleptomaniacal.
  12. Please, Tex, if you really think that rapes were at least as accurately reported then as they are now, then I really think you're on fantasy island with Ricardo Montalban.
  13. That's a bulls*** fact, Tex. 1) There are more people living in every state now than there was in 1960 2) Incidences of rape get reported FAR more regularly today than they did in 1960
  14. Let's not lose sight of the fact that the FCC accepts "gifts" from the radio station owners every year. The FCC is headed by Mike POwell, son of Colin Powell, crony of Bush. Clear Channel owned by Hicks, connected to Bush via Texas Rangers et al. Do I think everything Stern says should be allowed on free air? No. Do I think that the regulatory body is acting in an unbiased agenda-free manner? No. Given the two, I would rather have kids listening to porn stars describe their first lesbian experience, than see private businesses get blatantly and obviously bullied by government agencies which are driven by an agenda.
  15. Don't hate to say it Steff, feel relieved.
  16. Yeah, but you can't really get porn videos for free either. Or see uncut R-rated movies. And that doesn't bother me so much, because I can understand a parent not feeling comfortable with their kid listening to Stern's show. I mean, if you are a parent, how are you supposed to always know between June and September what your kid is listening to from 6-7am til 10-11am every morning? My fear is that they're taking things too far. That whole thing about the Super Bowl was a joke. Anyone who thinks their kid was sent down the road to deviancy because they saw Janet's boob is an idiot. It was a boob, so f***ing what? I have no clue why people think plain nudity is something that kids can't handle. It's anatomy, it's human, it's part of life. I wouldn't want my 10-year old watching heavy-bondage gay porn, but I certainly wouldn't have any problem showing him/her Michaelangelo's David.
  17. I agree with you, Tex, but my problem that the ONLY people that seem to be factoring into the decision are right-wing groups and republicans. Stern has 18 million listeners, he's the #1 rated show almost everywhere he's on. Obviously, there are tons of people who want him on the airwaves, and they're concerns are seemingly being disregarded.
  18. THem Blue demons?!?!?!?! I think yesterday's win solidified a tournament bid. As long as no one goes down with an injury, I think they may surprise some teams too. Wish they were this good when I was there.
  19. It's a real tricky subject, no doubt. I suppose what will eventually happen is Stern will take his show to satellite radio, and every single free-air station that used to air him will watch their profits go straight into the crapper. It's just like what's happening to the free-TV networks. They're all on the slow path to obsolescence, because of cable.
  20. Yah, there seems to be plenty of upgrades at D-Line still out there. I'd like Robaire Smith or Wistrom.
  21. I WONDER IF THE EAGLES ARE RESIGNED TO LOSING VINCENT, TAYLOR, OR BOTH. I'D LOVE TO SEE THE BEARS GRAB ONE OF THEM.
  22. I just heard Ted Washington signed with the Raiders. What the hell do they want him for?
  23. An SUV is essentially a pickup truck with a bigger body on it. There wouldn't be any problems making ones that run on alternative fuel, when they become more practical. When I bought my most recent car(a Honda Civic), the only reason why I didn't go electrical was because I read that the potassium hydroxide batteries they use only last about 5 years, and cost something like $6000 to replace. That doesn't make any sense. When the batteries get cheaper, or last longer, then I'll be getting an electric ride.
  24. But electricity can also be generated in nuclear and solar plant as well, no? There is a nuclear waste concern, but not with solar.
