  1. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) You have to dig through 7 layers of cute comments and jabs. Once he makes up his mind on someone, they are doomed. Brian could hit 700 and will still be the lurker of the hunnies. Probably because Cowley is considered a hack by the players and also his media counterparts.
  2. QUOTE (R.J. @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) They say that because he has a ton more value as a catcher with 30 homer power than as a first baseman with 30 homer power. Teams and general managers are more likely to try and sell prospects and acquisitions like Flowers to the fan base and public at large to build good feelings about the team and build the inferred value of the farm system. Flowers is a good hitter but he'd be an awful full time starting major league catcher. The Braves knew this. I think so did Kenny. He's a first baseman. They're lying about Jeff Marquez too. The guy hasnt played above A ball and just started playing catcher. Basically you are jumping the gun, the bullet, the manufacturer of said gun and the very idea of the gun ever being invented.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) I graduated with my bachelor's in business with a double focus in accounting and finance. I've worked for Deloitte for 3 years and will now be moving into private for a large, formerly publicy traded health care company while I attend MBA school part time in the fall. Don't mean to pat myself on the back, but not too shabby for being 2/1/2 years removed from college What did you do for Deloitte? What are you doing in your new position?
  4. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) they can have him for figgins. To be honest, Figgins in CF and leading off completes this lineup for me.
  5. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) owens with a bad break on a ball that according to farmer "hung up there for a while" drops in there for a hit....DJ goes back to the old "high sky" excuse that we seem to hear every year in Arizona Its not an excuse, the sky this time of year is very deceiving for grabbing fly balls.
  6. QUOTE (R.J. @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Don't think I'm basing this purely off of today, but Tyler Flowers is pretty clearly a future first baseman. He was before he was moved to catcher anyway.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Ozzie is such a tease. Giving us Flowers, but holding on to the Pimp. flowers will go yard.
  8. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) thats true, they did the same thing with floyd last spring, just havin him toss it up there, and every one was wondering they were so high on him going into the season. On that note they are throttling Gavin back a bit this spring because apparently he is popping the glove in the high 90's and is already in midseason form.
  9. what happened? Please keep us without radio access in the loop.
  10. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) Dotel is just serving up BP at this point My memory is crappy, but I recall him being pretty bad pitching in AZ.
  11. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) sounds like we are getting the post allstar break dotel today theres about a 75 percent chance he will be on the DL at some point this season.
  12. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Too much of Stoney can make you sick and induce diarrhea at times. I really wish Rooney would have stuck around to broadcast with Stoney. Hawk could be the Erin Andrews on the field.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) I remember sitting down the line in left field for a game in 2003 and seeing this, it was the most incredible display of arm strength I've ever seen in a game of long toss. Its possible we were watching it at the same time as thats when I had my seats out there. Unreal display. To this day I havent seen anyone do it like that. To put it in perspective for others, Buehrle probably throws the ball 10 feet above his head when playing long toss.
  14. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) I didn't say I'm not satisfied with the results of the trade. Just that of the players the Sox lost, Carter will be the one that we'll miss the most. Or in other words, he's going to be the best player we've given up. I dont know how you can miss him the most then? If you give someone a 10 dollar bill for a hundred dollar bill, do you still miss the 10?
  15. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) i can't see it. as a whole buckeye players are largely clueless defensively. lighty is good, turner and hill are ok, diebler has improved but is still sub-par, lauderdale has regressed, and mullens, buford, and simmons couldn't defend effectively if there was a force-field around the basket. this just isn't a good defensive team whether you are talking zone, man, whatever. they just aren't. i was talking to a friend of mine who gets over to practice from time-to-time and asked him about why matta doesn't use more man. he said, "because thad doesn't want to give up triple digits every night." Lighty hasnt played in months. And if Lauderdale has regressed from when he didnt play at all, Im not sure he should play college ball. They were a good defensive team in the zone until the Big Ten play started where team began bombing 3's on them all game long. They are athletic, long and have 2 good shot blockers. Man defense against NW, Wisco and ILL may have brought them wins in those games. Even the NW players were laughing after the game that they knew they could bomb 3's against that zone and that was the only way they could win. Matta doesnt play much man because his rotation is only 9 players deep at most because of injuries and transfer. He believes that the zone saves the kids so that they can play the whole game, it doesnt have anything to do with them not wanting to get scored on.

  17. Has anyone seen Colon take long toss? Its not your average joe throwing from left field to RF. I remember sitting in my old seats in the bleachers watching Bartolo play long toss from left to right center and the ball never got higher than his head. It was a laser.
  18. That game shouldnt have even been that close. IM hoping Matta is saving his real man to man defense for the tournament.
  19. Seriously, go f*** yourself Thad. You are a terrible game coach. You should really just handle recruiting.
  20. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) Great Move for the Twins. Not so great move for the Sox. I mean if he stays healthy, which I doubt, but if so I am going to dread the late inning situations against him. When healthy he is a potential gold glover/all star. Patient hitter at the plate and doesn't strike out much. We have a guy in Fields who strikes out a ton and plays ok defensively. Twins upgrade..sox downgrade..this offseason sucks! Im not sure how moving from Uribe to Fields is a downgrade at 3B.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) I would rather see this organization "get younger" by developing its own talent from the minors and not keep trading away talent. You build from within. Konerko, Dye and Thome, et al are veterans who can help teach and mentor young players. Let's not be so quick to want to trade them just because they make some money or are up for contract talks. AJP and Konerko and Buerhle and Dye and Thome are team leaders and you need that expereince to continue as a winning ball club. Plus whoever said 33 is old? Yes, but we can acquire and develop even more talent if we trade those older players when they actually have some value.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) I agree Fathom ole buddy. I dson't like the Twins and never have, but it's the Cubbies that are the "Dark Side" I dont know, when I think about the Cubs a bright pink color comes to mind with rainbows in the background.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) Health insurance is not a "right"... but that's yet another argument entirely. And neither is electricity, really. But health CARE should be. Insurance was invented mostly for a profit for a few. Health care is the actual act of giving people help when its needed.
