  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) I will agree, Cowley is a dope, but I really don't think OC is as well-liked as you think. He has been called a clubhouse leader and a positive influence for 2 successful franchises in his last two stops. I dont know how "mysterious" he could be.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) He's there every day. He has a good read on the clubhouse. He's a very good writer. If this was Hawk saying it everybody would believe it? People tend to hate print reporters for some reason and like the electronic guys. What's not to believe? Dye from all accounts is well liked; OC isn't. Why blame the writer? If Oz thinks the guy is wrong I'm sure we'll hear about it in some outburst soon. I believe the writer. He's good. Those ballots shouldn't be made public BTW and I don't know why he hates Canada. That one is baffling. Maybe he got mugged up there. OC is well liked and respected around the league. Cowley has a reputation for being crass, controversial, and unprofessional. Its not very hard to see who is trying to Marriotti himself into the spotlight constantly.
  3. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 02:39 AM) Cowley is there everyday in the clubhouse, unlike some of his colleagues. I'm willing to bet his vendetta, if you can call it that, is merely an observation of Cabrera's personality. Have we seen or heard anything to suggest Cabrera ISN'T selfish or an asshole? Cowley is a hack and isnt very believable nor reputable. The guy was banned by his own organization from voting for postseason awards because he embarrassed them. This is a guy who embarrassed himself by calling Canada a third world country and refused to stand for their national anthem. He's an unprofessional jackass who is trying to make a name for himself by being Marriotti-lite.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) It's possible he's still adjusting to wood bats, but you're probably right. Maybe he's all glove and hits for contact. We could use a few of those.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) Of course, Rivera is no Boone Logan. good point. But Boone Logan is no Jeff Bajenaru
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) Some of you guys act like Dotel is really good. He might be worth a try, but he's no Rivera. Committee sounds good to me. Carlos Quentin is good, but he's no Babe Ruth. What an awful analogy by you.
  7. BTW Swish in the 2-hole is nice. I like the OBP, and the patience.
  8. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) what exactly happened between OC and dye...i didnt see it.... btw the bullpen makes me have to change my pants what do you mean?
  9. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Thats just a rumor started by Levine. But in July he is OPS-ing 1.121
  10. Nice to see the cubs stealing signs to another victory at home.
  11. BTW, I like Swish in the 2 hole and have been saying it for awhile.
  12. Morel looks like a decent hitter, but has ZERO power.
  13. QUOTE (maggliopipe @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Big Jim's slow, but he's not THAT slow. He wasn't wincing or anything but it sure looked like he was hurting. He really is that slow.
  14. 5 runs on 4 hits, nice. Once again, I hope KW has been speaking to other teams about their arms. I think a Bedard, Burnett, or such should be on his list in case. Javy and Jose have both looked terrible lately, and Danks and Floyd CANNOT be expected to carry this staff.
  15. This team could easily collapse with Javy and Count pitching like this, and the young guys getting tired in the dog days of summer. I sure hope KW has an SP on his radar.
  16. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) I worked in radio all throughout college and we were taught that your audience is always in flux, and that you need to be aware that they are constantly tuning in and out. Why is it that these two can never tell me the game situation without going on some tangent about something relatively meaningless first? On every occasion this season where I've missed the first several innings of a game, I hop in my car, hit 670 and am waiting for the score, and wait through 3+ minutes of banter before I can figure out what the hell the score is. On one such occasion, I pulled out my phone and obtained the score faster via the internet. That is inexcusably bad. How hard is it to repeat the score/game situation once, twice or three times an inning before you launch into some long-winded pontification? Thats Farmer's job, and he's terrible at it. I've counted on many occasions at least 3 pitches in the background before he acknowledges theres a game going on.
  17. He's started struggling way before Pablo got released.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) He's been starting throughout his minor league time, and he started this year in A+ (recently promoted to AA). I somehow doubt they will pop him up to the club for a week to close. Obviously I was tongue in cheek on that one. I really hope Kenny is looking in the market though just in case Bobby's injury is a little more serious than they are making it look
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) Beasley 9 points on 1-13 shooting and 5 turnovers. Time to call it a career. He's a bust. "Heat fans need to be prepared that there is a much higher chance that Rose pans out than Beasley does."
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) Ozzie insists on 12 pitchers, per the Trib. Since Loaiza isn't ready, I'm guessing we'll get Wassermann for a week. He probably won't pitch more than once or twice at most anyway, so, I guess it doesn't make much difference who they call up. Maybe they'll surprise everyone and bring up Poreda to close in the mean time............
  21. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) puzzling move. why would they DFA ozuna if they were going to put jenks on the DL? who are they bringing up? fields? richar? Someone else is coming up. It may be Richar, Getz, Or Bourgeois.
  22. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) BTW, its a good deal for the Cubs. It's about this year and next for the Cubs, and this only helps their chances. They didn't take away any major pieces of the puzzle with this trade, and any momentum the Brewers got with CC looks to have leveled off with this deal. Cubs should be excited, and pray they have better luck than they did with Prior. Its a STEAL for the Cubs. I never thought I would see Beane raped so badly by Hendry. Beane gave up 2 nice arms for a pile of junk and a middle of the rotation guy. Not only that, but the Cubs kept all of their good bargaining chips for a run at a bat as well. Wow. The only thing that could kill this is if Harden goes to the DL for the rest of the year only a few starts in.
  23. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) Just for argument's sake, could the Sox have put together a better package than that with our minor leaguers? Not that I would necessarily want them to do this, but I keep hearing the Sox don't have the ammo to make a big trade. I thought both Cleveland and Oakland sold way low, especially the A's. I think it's a great trade for the Cubs. Most likely. Murton and patterson are worth basically nothing. All we would have to do is match value of Gallagher.
  24. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) I feel like the A's could have done better, but what do I know. Leads me to believe that no one else believed Harden would be healthy. They could have. The cubs threw in a bunch of crap and Gallagher. He was the true prize in the deal. The cubs may have been better off just keeping him in the rotation or the pen.
