QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Geez, you'd think Paulie is 37-38 based on some of these posts. The guy is 32, and to assume he will never be anything more than a very mediocre power hitter, especially in the following 3 or 4 years, is crazy. Will he be anything more than a very mediocre power hitter? I don't know, I can't see the future. But I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt due to his baseball knowledge and his career success. Yup. And a healthy Paul Konerko coming back to this team is a better hitter than anything out there in the trade market.

Why does every person keep talking about dumping Hughes but keeping Ben Gordon. Hughes is a taller Gordon, with handles, that actually plays good defense. I would want him over Gordon on this team every day of the week, especially with a rookie starting next to him in the backcourt. -
If you could improve this team, how would you do it?

Im holding out hope that Konerko comes back and plays like his true self. Otherwise I like Swish at 1B and I would try to find an actual lead off hitter. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) The best part of that is the comment that the Sox have no traditions, which is cute. First of all, the W flag and "Go Cubs Go" are very recent "traditions" which were just made up by Cubs Marketing within the last decade for the sake of making money (W flag merchandise) and getting attention. To call either of those traditions is really dumb. But getting back to us, we (well, Nancy Faust) started the "na na na na, hey, goodbye" song being played at sporting events. You now hear that song being played/sung at games all over the world. Second of all, we also invented the concept of fireworks at the game/after home runs, another thing you see at stadiums all over the place. Oh, and hey, what about the singing the 7th inning stretch thing? They do know Harry Carey started that at Comiskey Park and not Wrigley Field, right? That's right, the tradition that defines their ballpark as much as the ivy, drunks, and losing, was originated by the terrible White Sox. But I guess other than three very significant traditions that you see being copied all over the place, we have none of our own. Right. I dont understand why unintelligent cubs fans like to continue to bring up an incident where two CUBS fans got wasted at Wrigley field during the day and then went to a Sox game at night and jumped on the field for no reason. Are they trying to criticize our security? Or just make themselves look idiotic. Of course the Cubs started every baseball tradition, I mean they have been been showing up to their games for what? 15 years now? Most of those people who say those things are kids who just recently got into the team, most likely in 2003 and feel great mouthing off about it on their crappy little message board.

Im just excited to finally see some top tier talent suit up for the bulls. I have gotten sick of safe bets on "winners" reach picks and project players. -
They should jinx themselves, their pitching staff has been performing over their heads and they have been unbelievably clutch. It wont last.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 09:01 AM) oh its the pitching staffs for sure...even outside the cubs those NL Central teams arent that good....i mean right now with Wainright on the DL the cardinals starting rotation is Braden Looper, Kyle Lohse, Joel Piniero, Todd Wellemeyer and Mitchell Boggs....4 guys they got off the scrap heap and someone ive never heard of brewers outside of sheets are terrible as well....i mean lets be honest, jeff suppan got killed in the AL and is a righty who doesnt throw harder than 88, the NL West is just laughably bad...arizona is back to the norm offensively... NL East is the best NL division IMO....i still dont believe in the marlins, but i think the braves are a solid team and i think the phillies are pretty good...the mets i dont see as having enough pitching behind johan, but still are alright NL lovers will throw batting stats at you, telling you how the NL has leaders in all of the categories. Of course its because NL batters get to face NL pitching on a daily basis and the back ends of those rotations and several of those bullpens can help inflate offensive numbers quite a bit. Compare the pitching staffs of the worst teams in each division. The NL is weak. If we got to play the Pirates as much as the cubs did, we would have a very similar record to theirs.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Pooh is much more athletic and explosive than deron williams... Honestly though, I think Deron was just more mature of a floor general coming out of school. He changes teams and they way they play, he was basically the reason Illinois was that good of a team when they were. Rose is obviously more physically gifted however. -
Jimbo's being replaced with Cubs bar? Jimbo wont have it!

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) Not me. At least Cubs bars are full of hotties. Just wait till that area develops year after year and I think you will see some nice places pop up closer by. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) The same could be said about people like you giving up on him after 1 day? I was trying to be a little more subtle with that point.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) Was at the game, upper deck in 510 section it was pretty awesome. For most of the time the cub and sox fans had fun with each other towards the end it got a little rowdy though. Security started taking a chunk of people out towards the end, almost all Cubs fans even though both sides were on the wrong. Lets be honest people, what do you have to gain getting belligerent and physical with another fan just cause he likes the other team? I dont understand it at all. Everything is more fun when you dont take it to that level. There are families around you, act like adults and good fans.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Wise's line today 0 for 4 with 3 k's thats why he's not our new leadoff man Ah yes, what about when he almost hit for the cycle? Wouldnt that make him perfect as a lead off man?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) Obviously I'm in a non-biased not so silent minority here, but I'd rather have Barleycorns than Jimbos... Let's see...a washed up dump that servers crappy drinks in plastic cups (most of the time) and no/bad food... vs A bar with real beers on tap, served in real glasses, and decent bar food to boot... Uh...hmmm....yeah. Sorry, but that's no contest IMO. And I was born in and still live in Bridgeport, and don't care...I've always thought Jimbos sucked and still do. As it stands right now Mitchells 7 days a week and twice on Sunday before I'm forced to go to Jimbos even once. Oh and... I agree Jimbos sucks. Overpriced cans of beer and plastic cups. With that said, Barleycorn knows they cant make much money in that location anyway. And Puffers/Mitchells is waaay better. -
QUOTE (KyKyGruber @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) Was Hawk drunk today? When swisher hit the grand slam he says now the lead is 9-0 and then he says Steve Swisher with the grandslam. I was waiting for swisher to do the worm after Dye made that sliding catch. Actually he said that is nine, because that was the 9th grand slam hit in the crosstown series. And he said Steve Swisher because he was playing on his father's name and his father playing for the cubs, which was kind of dumb. But the nine thing made perfect sense.

So Buehrle to pitch sunday huh?

Dont let up guys, we need to take the next two.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) I don't care if D Wise had a few good games...why the hell is he still starting....he's been a minor leaguer for like 10 years Because he hits better than BA

QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) I done "working" for the day. Off to the bar to hopefully run into some Cubs fans. lotta game left. They have the offense to come back.

Swish killed that btw. Edmonds just stood there.

Len and Bob on comcast is just silence. All you hear is, strike, ball, strike. BS called strike on Wise there.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) Not really a fan of that comparison. Both great pg's but they have pretty different skill sets. I agree. I think Williams is more of a game pace controller who sees the court better than almost anyone, while Rose is a bit faster and more athletic. -

He also owns Moe's cantina, I would welcome the fake breasted bartenders down by our park. I dont think he understands that not only is that space not big enough for a Barleycorn, but the clientèle wouldnt appreciate it.
