  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 07:35 AM) That depends, do you think we deserve to have roads, bridges, and other infrastructure? I thought that money was coming from the overpriced tolls that we pay on the highway every day? Or the 3 dollars of tax on cigarettes people pay? Or the 10 percent sales tax i pay when i purchase anything in chicago?
  2. QUOTE (Noberto Martin @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) I also wouldn't be surprised to see Thome get a start at 1B in an NL game..... He wont play 1B, his body cant take it. And its Alexei
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 12:22 PM) Let's hope Ozzie goes with Anderson in CF and Ramirez at 2B. He should. In fact I would like to see another tinker, and my personal lineup would look like this: 1. Swish 1B 2. OC SS 3. Q LF 4. Dye RF 5. Thome DH 6. Crede 3B 7. AJP C 8. BA CF 9. Alexei 2B
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) Which is, frankly, just about what it should be. If they're going to trade him, they ought to hold out for a solid young starting pitcher and a cheap/young position player. Poreda might be useful in such a deal, but frankly, outside of Poreda, we have nothing that should genuinely interest them outside of our big league roster. Broadway might work as the throw in 3rd player, but Poreda + Broadway wouldn't get it done if I were running the O's. Not really, Danks and Floyd are both worth more than Roberts on their own right now, adding Alexei to a deal with one of them should net you a stud, not Brian Roberts.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Good point, but I am not sure the player brought up will start. They may ride the bench, with Anderson starting, or with Ramirez doing some CF work and Uribe playing some 2B. Hopefully the latter doesn't happen, but, it might. I really think BA is the best player in the bunch, but lets all be honest, this team needs a better top of the order, OC is not the answer.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) I wouldn't call Getz, Wise or Cook all-or-nothing hitters. I am not sure if Getz can play CF, but Anderson can, with any of those three on the bench. Cook and Wise can both play CF, though I don't know how good Wise is. Cook is supposed to be solid at all 3 OF positions. Did Wise play any CF while he was up, and if so, did anyone see him? Sorry, I must clarify, hitters that could start at the major league level. Getz doesnt play CF, Wise shouldnt start and Cook just got moved up to AAA.
  7. The only player on that list that is currently under our control, plays a position that will be vacated, and isnt the All-or-nothing hitter we have been struggling with is Jerry Owens, unfortunately.
  8. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) No, they're not. Plus, domestic demand has little to do with the price of gas. If you're looking for a culprit behind high gas prices, the evidence lies with OPEC and increased foreign demand from China, India and Russia. Its not? You really think the government deserves almost a dollar worth of taxes per gallon?
  9. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) I'm not a huge Jerry Owens fan... but he is on a roll... .345 batting average in June... .393 OBP http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=435539 Something needs to happen, and he can play a position that will be vacated with Swish playing 1B
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) This might not be the popular choice, but I would bring up Owens. He is hitting .310 in his last 10 games, and he has something this team needs... Speed. I know he doesn't walk a lot, but at this point, can he be any worse then what we have? Bringing up Owens, can also give some rest for Q, BA, and Dye. Agree? Disagree? I actually agree. We need something different up here and the power/slugging all or nothing part of the game isnt working for us clearly. Im ready to take a chance on something different at this point. 1. Owens CF 2. OC SS 3. Q LF 4. Dye RF 5. Thome DH (ugh) 6. AJP C 7. Swish 1B 8. Crede 3B 9. Alexei 2B
  11. Its time to do something before this season is lost. First place teams in the AL do not start players hitting near .200. Thome has missed meatball fastballs more times this season than he has in his whole career. We need to make a move.
  12. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 05:23 AM) So you would play Lofton and sit who? Q? Swisher? Dye? Thome? If Lofton were a second baseman, it would make more sense. So, what I am saying is.... But where would he play? We do need a lead off hitter at some point, and one of our guys wil have to sit eventually.
  13. I hope Cook is a guy that we can bring up eventually.
  14. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) I would've loved Lofton 10 years ago. But now? Eh, not so much... If he was our leadoff hitter, he would be the most effective one to date most likely.
  15. I know the cubs are facing off against some awful competition, but they win every game at home. Thats tough in the playoffs.
  16. In short, nothing. He is just having a slight cold spell. And still gets on base and hits a bit.
  17. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Goes to Chicago and orders corn. OK. And doesn't like Best Kosher? First, I think Best Kosher is better, second, can't you get Vienna at the Cell? Its actually elotes, and its one of the best dishes in the park. And Best Kosher are better than the skinny Viennas they serve in the hot dog shops, not to mention the fantastic polishes.
  18. Kenny will throw changeups, our team will strike out.
  19. Well, the taxes on a gallon are pretty outrageous already, im sure prices will continue to climb and stay high since everyone is still buying gas.
  20. The need a class on how to hit changeups more than rest IMO
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) I never said JUST Gallagher, I said they would want Gallagher, along with probably Pie, Smardajiza, and Vitters. Pie has zero value, Samardajiza will be out of baseball shortly, and I dont think that whole package gives a team much more than quantity instead of quality.
  22. QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) Are you including his 106.2 AAA innings??? I got him at 176.2 total innings in 2007 so reaching 200 is not a stretch. Basically its just lazy research by just searching ESPN.com. Floyd has had a good workload throughout the minors and Danks has shown the ability to approach that number as well. Freddy probably wont come back until August or Sept at the earliest anyway, so its kind of a dumb discussion right now. Also, this is exactly the reason why we signed Loaiza, and Ozzie and Coop have said they will use him for spot starts to help lighten the workloads.
  23. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) Paulie just got a cortizone shot, he should feel better for awhile and I bet has offseason surgery. On a bruise?
  24. Is it a new thing that the cubs win at home? Thats all they do.
