  1. He was a coach on the 2003 Marlins championship team with Ozzie.
  2. QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) Hi, everyone. This is my first post on this board and I look forward to posting here daily for years to come with all of you. I'd have to say this deal wouldn't make sense at all. Mainly because the re-signings of MB and Dye have shown that we're not about to just cut payroll, which is exactly what a deal like this would be trying to do. I saw Shields pitch 5 or 6 times this year and he's clearly in decline. I'd rather just get some lightning rod arms and throw them in the pen for cheap rather than on overpriced middle reliever that's on his way down. welcome to SOXTALK :headbang
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) The grass is always greener... Well when Texiera was going to bring back kotchman, Figgins and Santana, I would think that Angels fans would LOVE this trade. I posted it on their forum, im waiting to see responses.
  4. is it funny to anyone else that Angels fans want to get rid of Kotchman, in fact keep calling for that deal of Kotchman, Figgins and Santana for Tex, they call him soft, and injury prone. Yet we act like this guy is complete gold.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) Do you know anybody with the regular TV package? If so, I think you can probably do something where they buy it (and you pay them) -- they then send in a rebate form that shows they already have Center Ice, and IIRC, you get the price down to half of the $170. Kind of a pain in the ass way of doing it, but... Will it be shown on the sports package like that? Because then im going to a bar to watch it for sure.
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) I think Wang is already the anchor, and don't forget Ian Kennedy either. They are set for a while. I forgot about Ian. So basically they have 4 guys that are set.
  7. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) You're right Bell didnt-I was more referring to young players in that organization that do develop and move on and do well. Its "the Royals way" and thats what I hope he brings here. In my opinion only the Twins do it better. Than the Royals? Even with those stellar players the Royals have been bottom dwellers. Why so much love here for an organization that really hasnt produced that many solid players in the last several years? Angels do it better, Braves, Boston has, Yankees as of late, Cleveland, detroit, Milwaukee, Colorado, Arizona on and on. These teams have all produced better homegrown talent than the Royals.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) Kotchman seems like a good choice at #2. I might flip Thome and Jones against LHP, though. That's also a very heavily RH lineup in the middle. I think you want to try to move AJ up to 6 or 7, and you need a good LH bat off the bench who can play multiple OF positions. Owens maybe could fit that role nicely, in addition to adding speed. And because you've got some much improved OBP in there with Figgins, Kotchman and Jones (to an extent), you can afford to stay with Uribe at SS if necessary. That lineup could hit a LOT of homeruns. yeah I stuck him there because of his contact rate and OBP. He seems like an OK fit in that hole. Especially since we dont have anyone else that looks to be a fit. The bench would be: Richar Owens Ozuna Sweeny Lucy?
  9. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) The post of a defeated man. I shall take it. I gave you a pretty good opening there and you didnt take it.
  10. Heres a question. Where does Figgins play? 2B? 3B? RF? Cf? those are the positions he has played most the last 2 seasons. Alot of people would want some power from the CF FA class if this deal goes down. So in my eyes that leaves figgins to play 2B and Richar to sit or play in AAA.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) FWIW, Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Braves beat writer David O'Brien is betting that either the Dodgers or White Sox will land Andruw Jones. A few other teams he mentions are "rumored" as interested. Scroll down to "Whither Andruew" for the discussion. Ok. Well. For this to happen we would have to shed serious salary which means Garland and another player, maybe even konerko in the deal with the Angels. Of course that means that Figgins has no position to play. This season Chone played 2B, 3B and RF. Which means you would have to stick him at 2B and use Richar in AAA or as a sub. 1. Figgins 2B 2. C kotchman 1B 3. Thome DH 4. A Jones CF 5. J Dye RF 6. j Fields LF 7. J Crede 3B 8. AJP C 9 J uribe SS I struggle with who bats #2 with that scenario.
  12. QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) and hughes is becoming a forgotten name in that mix....it was only a few months ago that many considered hughes to be one of the top few pitching prospects in the game along with bailey and lincecum s***. Those two could anchor the rotation for the next 5-7 years.
  13. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Exactly, I never said TRADE THE MO-f***-A! I said you all are overvaluing the closer role and if the right deal comes up you jump on it and laugh... Especially for a closer with weight issues and a screw holding his elbow together.
  14. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) Well s***, he could have play-action faked, ran back to the one yard line and done cart-wheels to the endzone with his pants off... but he didn't and his track record suggests he wouldn't have... just like his track record suggests he wouldn't have even seen Desmond Clark and probably would have thrown to the first option on that play, which wasn't Clark. I tried to read your post steve but all i saw was 12 inches of signature across my screen.
  15. Here is the ESPN poll of experts and former players and coaches for the Heisman. As you can tell its quite different from having students vote from their dorms. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/heisman07/in...mp;lid=tab1pos2
  16. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 07:14 AM) It's a quantifiable fact that Rex has been one of the worst QB's in the NFL since week 5 of last year. Just look at his TD:INT ratio from that point on. The man sucks at throwing a football. Ah, well that proves he would have underthrown that pass. I stand corrected.
  17. Remember when Pettite leaves Joba is stepping right in to the rotation.
  18. To follow up on CWS's perspective on Konerko and the trade. Would it be feasible to trade Garland for Figgins and Shields?
  19. Washers is better, but people have been playing bags on the southside for probably over 40 years.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) Off year? His OPS was down a little bit, but the dude is 31 -- this is just a guess, but PK doesn't strike me as a guy who's going to age gracefully. Over the next three years, I'd bet that Konerko's OPS is closer to his 2007 numbers than to his 2005-2006 numbers. Yes an off year Konerko SLG 1999 .511 2000 .481 2001 .507 2002 .498 2003 .399 2004 .535 2005 .534 2006 .551
  21. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) They've gone from "upsetting" Penn State and Wisconsin to BCS bowl bound in just two weeks. Why is upsetting in quotes? This is the first time Illinois has been ranked in 6 years. Not exactly a perennial powerhouse
