QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) I know Wells has had some very nice years, but he has had some not so nice years as well. Wells is certainly a desirable guy to have, but considering he isn't any real measurable amount better than Anderson defensively in CF, you are paying $100 million for the offensive upgrade, that the team doesn't necessarily need right now. That may change with the coming departures of Dye, Thome, and Crede eventually, but I think I would take my chances on trading for Rios as a corner OF, hoping BA will develop offensively, and saving my cash. You continue to ignore Rios pricetag and huge upside. Im not ignoring it, in fact I am in favor of many of those types of trades, and you can read that point of view in other threads. But in this case we just disagree. I dont see Rios in the same sentence as Wells, and I view as possibly the best or one of the best players at his position. We arent going to see eye to eye, because we have different views on the main argument. I can see your side however, and I think both sides have their positives.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Scout.com http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=315&p=2&c=601667 Penny has the right to demand a trade a year after he's traded to another team. If he remained healthy, he'd probably try to rework his contract. The proposed deal shows that Rios doesnt have as much trade value as many people think. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) That's completely irrelevant. You're overlooking so many other factors in what makes up a player's trade value. If you could have either player, Wells for 1 year guaranteed, or Rios for 4 years guaranteed. are you telling me you would take Wells? And further, if you could have Rios for 4 years for an absolute bargain, or Wells, and pay him close to 60 million, you'd still take Wells? You are looking too much at other factors, Rios doesnt even come close to the player that Wells is, not even close. I would take Wells in both of those scenarios. GG defense, huge offensive power, yes yes yes.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) If it were only that simple. Do you think Freddy has more trade value than Brandon, simply because Freddy > Brandon? Wells in one of the best players at his position, Garcia simply isnt.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) Not sure why he wouldn't be worth nearly what Wells was worth Because wells>Rios. I dont ever think Rios will be close to the player that Wells is IMO. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) No matter who that other prospect is from Toronto, the Mets package is a hell of a lot more than what some people on here think we could offer for Rios. Once the Wells contract rumors started, there was some talk that Toronto might be interested in Vazquez. Yeah, could be true. Millege's stock has dropped drastically and Heilman doesnt want to play his best position which is out of the pen. I woudnt want to deal one of our current starters though, as we would have a gaping hole.
-
thank god. now for Santana....
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) Then be prepared to be shocked at what the Jays get offered. There's some speculation that the Mets might offer Lastings and Heilman for him. I wouldn't be stunned if we offered Vazquez and a prospect for Rios. Thats not correct, it was rumored they would offer Millege and Heilman for Rios and another top prospect from the Jays.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) your auction items are in your mailbox... directly across from the AH in IF. Go inside the building that it's in front of to see your bank vault. You can store stuff there and access it from any major city. taming rod...you should probably quit the quest and then start over. you can do that from the "L" screen Nice, somehow I figured all of that out with some other guys help, but I appreciate it. im almost lvl 12 right now, we shoudl play one night.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) He has 4 cheap years ahead of him, will be 26 years old next year and has major upside. Why the hell would they trade him for a league average to below average pitcher (back of the rotation guy) or a prospect like Broadway (who is decent)? That makes no sense. If Ricardi is even a halfway decent GM he won't let Rios go for anything less than a top 5-10 pitching prospect in all of baseball to start. He isnt worth nearly what Wells was worth, and has really only had about 1 half of a good season. I wouldnt expect top packages for him IMO.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Is Sweeney better than Terrero defensively in CF? Oh yeah, I think so.
-
I bought some things at the auction in Ironforge, but I cannot find them in my packpack etc, is there somewhere I go to pick it up? I have the taming rod, but ran out of charges, where can I get more of these?
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) They want MLB ready? I'd deal Haeger, Pods and maybe a spect arm for him (not Broadway, lower tier than that). If they'd take that. When im thinking of MLB ready arms that they may value, you have to look at Sisco, Haeger, Floyd, as something they may want, but all in all, we may not be a good trade partner.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) I'm much more worried about the interior of our D-Line than our secondary... Im worried about their energy level, but we should see an improvement in run defense with our big lane cloggers inthere full time now.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 12:57 AM) I don't see any reason why the Jays would deal him for anything less than a young, stud, MLB-Ready starter. I dont know. I would think maybe a decent spec or a back of the rotation guy. He had a half-way breakout season last year, but isnt quite a Wells type player that you will overpay for.

Disclaimer to sox fans: most likely no player on the white sox is the top player at his position, there may always be someone else you may want on the team instead of that person. Regardless, that is not the way that teams are put together, nor is it rational and realistic. The Chicago White Sox specifically pay extremely qualified individuals to make the best choices for the team in the present and in the future. Thanks and have a great night. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) Of course we don't know for sure. But the word around NYC was that he was available for SP help, like Garcia. Do you always just look at the prior year's production? Is it relevant to you that this wasn't even a full season of play for him and that it is very different from each of the prior 3 years? It should be. Jose Guillen would have been a huge upgrade over Pods. It makes a lot more sense than having Pods lead off. Are you saying only guys who have hit leadoff before should leadoff? That doesn't make much sense. He's the best candidate for the job, and certainly sufficient. No, he's not ideal, but he would be a MUCH better leadoff hitter than Pods who can't get on base and steals for a poor percentage when he does get on base. I would like the team to improve. That's not a very radical position. Abreu for Garcia huh? Im sure KW didnt even think of that possibility and never explored it. In fact if the idea came up, im sure he immediately declined based on it being too great of a return for a declining pitcher in his walk year. I know Jose Guillen's stats, thanks, maybe I saw them when i quote his exact SLG from last year? Of course im sure in your assessment of PODS, im SURE you have examined his career stats, and not just last year's. The team has improved in several areas so far this year, you are too blind and hateful towards the organization to even take notice. Anyone with a signature such as yours pretty much has solidified himself as someone who cant be happy even with success. Have a great night, and maybe this season the team may bring you some joy.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Abreu was available. "Guillen who" is Jose Guillen. Iguchi could lead off. Abreu could lead off. As I have said before, you don't need a base stealing speedster leading off. You need a guy who can actually get on base. Abreu was available for what? Jose Guillen is your answer as well? Maybe it was his .398 SLG last year that caught your eye? And I guess just placing iguchi in the lead-off spot is logical considering he really never hit there, and isnt ideal for the slot, but sure it makes sense. Basically anything different that what we are currently planning to do is what you would like us to do, i understand.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) I can easily describe how I feel about him...nickel back. He gave up two TD's basically by himself, disgusting. Why oh why did we get out of the cover two?
-
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Two obvious choices that would have been affordable are Abreu and Guillen. They would have been huge upgrades over Pods and affordale. Huh? When was Abreu a free agent? Guillen who? Which one of those guys would have batted lead off?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) It's going to cost BMac to start so no, Rios will not be playing for the Sox next season. I dont think thats right at all. It seems to me like they could only hope for a back of the rotation guy, maybe even a decent pitching spect to plug in there.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) And not a great day for the Bears even though you pulled out the win. Offensively it was a great day, defensivly, not good.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) And Carmelo proved yesterday that he ranks right up there with the biggest b****es in the league. I don't see how you could have any respect for a guy who would slap and run like that. They both suck at life IMO. -
Ricky Manning Jr was so horrible today that I cant find the words to accurately describe how i feel about him.
-
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) Really? You'd be happy with this offseason if the only upgrades over the 2006 team were a slightly better backup catcher and backup CF, and maybe another reliever (given the fact that nothing particularly good is left to sign)? Wouldn't that be essentially standing pat? What would make you happy? Anything? Or are you really that miserable? Im loving the deals made this offseason, and I expect one or two more good ones.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) Didn't you see the article last week that said the Sox are talking with Sandy, and clearing up a roster spot was something that needed to be done in order to add a player? Not very on target huh?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) It wasn't even a punch that Anthony threw, it was more of a slap. Jared Jefferies would have beat Melo's ass had Marcus Camby not tackled him. Jeffries is probably one of the biggest sissies in the NBA. He wanted a slap fight. -
QUOTE(joejoedairy @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) This trade blows. Cisco is awful. Everytime he came in against us I knew the sox were going to score. Remember when he walked in 2 guys and we won 2-1 after grienke threw 8 shutout innings. Gload should have started this year over pods and thome. hahahahaha. 2006 or 2005? because he was two differnt guys. Not to mention he is 23, has a power arm, and great stuff. Gload appreciates the suuport though.
