  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) No, it's something we need to strengthen in order to beat tough lefties. We went something like 3-12 against Santana, Rogers, and C.C. this season. Since there's not much we can do about the 3-7 in our lineup, our back-up catcher is something that can really improve our LHP lineup. A perfect example of this is Redmond with the Twins. Why go out and sign someone, when you havea a home grown solution? If you want to improve vs LHP, look no further than Thome, Iguchi, PODS, etc as why we cant hit them. Also, NOBODY can hit Santana this year, its not only us. CC has the 3rd best ERA in the AL, I would say he is good as well. The back up catcher's ability to hit LHP should be the last concern on the list.
  2. QUOTE(Wedge @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Not comparatively. Zibby is fast. If you watched the Fiesta Bowl, you saw him making up ground on Holmes and Ginn on their long runs. He also caught Reggie Bush from behind last year, too. He's fast. Making up ground as they were high-stepping into the end zone? There is one reason why they got schooled by OSU's speed, their defense is slow. If he is your "speed guy" on the defense, you are in trouble.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) We have a hard enough time scoring against Santana, Rogers, C.C. (and Liriano, I'm sure). I still think it's very important that we beef up our lineup against lefty pitchers. Hopefully we can get an everyday LF next year, and then we can have Ozuna play some 2B against LHP (if Iguchi stinks against them again) and some DH in order to not make Thome face guys like C.C. and Randy Johnson. Is the backup catcher really your solution to beating Santana? Come on Fathom, think rationally.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) They've said that Haeger is very quick to the plate. We've seen Garcia and Contreras hold runners....there's not a catcher in the world who could throw out a runner when they're on the mound. 71 mph
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) He was supposed to be on a pitch count, and he was at about 80 pitches when he started to get shaky. In other words, yeah, he wasn't stretched out, and he gave up a home run and a walk because Ozzie left him in too long. Haegar should have started the 6th, but anyway...very nice to see that the real BMac still is alive in there. Yup, that was my point, as soon as he got to his limit, he looked just like he did all season. When starting BMAC is a totally different pitcher.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) How exactly does a knuckleballer give a guy a better chance to throw out a base stealer than Garcia or Contreras? You beat me to it. He still threw out Sizemore with a 71 MPH pitch coming to him with movement. I think there is no reason you dont bring in Stew to back up AJP next year. Cheap homegrown solution.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) Yes, he can't hit a lick. With the tough lefties that we face, it's vital that we have a back-up righty catcher who can hit decently. I disagree, I would rather have a great defensive cather who can throw out runners, especially with our starting staff.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) So BMac tonight...8 k's in 5 IP, 1 hit, faced 1 over the minimum. Changeup was back. 2 seamer was working. Yeah...don't you dare trade this kid. I'm satisified...I just wanted to know that they hadn't permanently screwed him up. They didnt, and when he got tired, he looked like he did in relief.
  9. Stewart throws out Sizemore with a knuckleballer throwing. Any doubt the kid is major league ready?
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) How about the other pitches? Is his curve the small, sharp one or is it the bigger sweeping one today? Have you been able to pick out the 2 seamer? The radio guys have said he's thrown it 2 seamer inside to lefties and jamming righties looks like the pitch tonight. The curve is starting in the middle of the zone and dropping off, he hasnt thrown the big sweeper quite yet. Stew is working both sides of the plate nicely.
  11. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) Yeah he would have been of no use when our rotation looked like crap. sarcasm> Another note: Stewart looks better than every back up catcher we have brought in this year.
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) I didn't know Dusty Baker was a Soxtalk contributer... What matters more in a game. Runs or runners on base? Check out what side of the argument you are defending and get back to me.
  13. Both are terrible options. Soriano is going to cost an arm and a leg, and Mathews has had ONE good season.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) For those watching the game... Does McCarthy look like he did last September? better. His change up looks ridiculous.
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Police report is hearsay. It is so unreliable that it can not even be used in an Illinois court case. To explain, The report is based on different levels of hearsay. The officers ask people at the scene what happened. The officers have no personal knowledge as they were not there to witness what happened. The fact it was so quickly edited and retracted further suggests how unreliable it is. Well, the fact that the person they asked was his publicist (who called 911) and TO, I would say that isnt really heresay. Not only that but they have to take an oath about their statement. I would say that is more reliable than the public relations machine of the NFL.
  16. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The 1,8 and 9 hitters were horrid (and the 2 hitter was spotty), but realistically? This is all you have to say. I think the pen is being overlooked here as well. With a shut down type pen like in 05, we would have 5-7 more wins under our belt IMO.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) Next time read my post. I clearly wrote "I rather have a guy who gets on base much allowing him to score more runs on other player's home runs." I didn't say I want a guy who scores a lot of runs. Fathom, here are two guys who wouldn't cost as much and would be upgrades over our current LF and SS. I don't want both of them, but I wouldn't mind one or the other. Omar Vizquel (Former Indian and Sox target,) and Frank Cattalonotto (or however the hell you spell it.) way to highlight the part of your post that doesnt make any sense. I guess getting on base matters more to you, thats fine, I prefer my team scoring runs, it usually helps out the final score a little more than just standing on the base. I guess I cant expect rationality from someone who is calling for Omar Vizquel.

    Light cigarettes

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) I think its amazing that cigarettes are legal and marijuana isn't. And I think cigarettes are a much, much greater danger to the public than alcohol. Dont even get me started. There were more deaths last year attributed to tylenol than Marijuana. Yet its a deadly "gateway drug."
  19. Thats the thing. The cops swore under oath that his publicist and TO said certain things, now they are denying that they ever said those things. IN the heat of a crisis people do not think about the rammifications of a situation, now think ahead to what the press will think, they are just honest about what is going on. Now that they have had time to think, it appears to me they are changing their story.
  20. His publicist then came on and called the police liars, and then a reporter asked her if she knew that the police had to swear to give their statement, and she answered yes, they lied.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) I did, which is why I brought up HOW small they were noting they weren't even discussion. :rolly If you no they are not worth anything, why did you bother claiming Thome was "subpar" in situational hitting? My cat's breath smells like cat food, but like the sample sizes you used, it's not worth mentioning. Wow, who would have thought that you would want to fight with someone who is a Thome supporter?
  22. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Thank you for showing the horrible contract. Why exactly does this team need more home runs? I rather have a guy who gets on base much allowing him to score more runs on other player's home runs. So, you are saying that scoring runs is the more important factor for a lead-off hitter? More important that OBP? Ok, lets check out how correct you are about how good rollins is. How about listing the top 10 players in the MLB in runs last year? Sounds like a plan 1.G Sizemore 132 2. C utley 128 3. J ROLLINS 124 4. C Beltran 121 5. J Reyes 120 6. A Soriano 118 7. H Ramirez 115 8 D Jeter 114 9. A Pujols 114 10. J Damon 113 yeah, he sucks.
  23. Even if he tried to shoot himself in the head and failed, his publicist would issue a statement, and make TO say that he was trying to hunt flies on his face and it was an accident.
  24. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Those sample sizes are so small they aren't even worth discussion Runners on second and third: He's had 3 at-bats Bases loaded: 7 at-bats His one hit was a grand slam and he had a bases load walk Seriously. THREE AT-BATS???? Let's look at a much larger sample size: Men on, 2 outs: 88 at-bats .307/.430/.636 Man on 3rd less than 2 outs: 23 at-bats .391/.447/.957 Subpar my ass. Exactly why I said they are VERY small sample sizes. Read next time.
