Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

Santana in trouble. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Really? If I'm him, I take a team with a large payroll and Zambrano, Hill, Lee, and (maybe) Ramirez over the Nats or the San Fran AARP. But I do hope you're right. A team who basically is known for underachieving, who probably will lose its 3B, has a horrible starting rotation and an even worse middle infield. The outifield is completely bare, and the only real plus is the bullpen, which now has no closer.

I am so excited to watch it. Season 1 was good, season 2 was better, season 3 will be unreal.
-
Terrible move. But even a worse move for him if he goes to the cubs.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) I'll take an even bet right now with anyone interested... Pods will have a better year next year than Pierre (assuming both play regularly and lead off somewhere). But, I'd rather not have either of them. Pierre just isn't much of an upgrade from Pods, so why bother? Furcal, or maybe Rollins, would be my ideal choices. To me, OBP is far and away the #1 factor for a leadoff hitter. Heck, I'd rather have Gload lead off than Pierre or Pods. I do see what people are saying about Ozzie's ozzieball thing. He wants speed and bunts. Fine. But if we are going to bother upgrading Pods, then do it substantially - not just a wee bit more speed, but a wee bit more speed AND a higher OBP. I do have to ask, though, because I really don't know - what is Rollins' defense like? pierre did lead the league in hits this year, I do not think PODS was anywhere close. -
Going to work for the cubs is bad for your career. I would be VERY careful if I was someone who they called to interview.

QUOTE(Nokona @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) Wait...Iowa blows? Did we play terrible the last 7 minutes of the game? Yes. However don't forget before Chandler's fumble we had plenty of time and we're driving... Don't forget we scored more points than Texas and PSU combined. Don't forget that Ted Ginn Jr was shut down. If it wasn't for our lack of depth at corner and the fact that Miguel Merrick wasn't starting at SS (you know where they ran the ball at our true freshman starting his first game in the biggest sporting event in Iowahistory) things could have been very different. 38-17 does not dictate the reality of this game. You are right, OSU was much more dominant than 38-17. Drew Tate imploded and frankly the defense wasnt getting much done against the run or the pass. Troy Smith added yet another heisman type game and you think it was closer than that? Man, Gonzo even put up a couple of highlight reel plays, including one that will be shown over and over and over in college football highlights. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) I suppose. If we are going to get some OBP challenged leadoff man though, at least make it somebody like Rollins who will get some extra base hits, RBI's, and produce some runs to make up for the lack of OBP. And as for the comment by Tony, you are right, however wouldn't you rather have better pitching AND a high OBP leadoff man? It is possible IMO. Rollins scores more runs than most of the MLB. He would fill 2 holes, SS and Leadoff. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 05:12 AM) Right now if you were offered Howie Kendrick, Ervin Santana and a prospect for Joe Crede, would you do that deal? Kendrick becomes your utility man, and would replace Iguchi in 2008. I don't buy the Santana is average talk. Yes his away splits aren't good. But this is his 1st full season in the majors, and that 4.28 ERA he put up this season would put him in the upper echelon of our starters for this season. And he's got pretty damn good stuff too, so that would please the people on here who are calling for us to have starting pitchers with more velocity over control. If he's more consistent, he'll take a big step forward. And I think he could do that next season. As for Joe, yeah he's one of my favorite players. But the Sox brass have to realize if he's not going to sign long - term and he's going to test the market, then his value will never be higher than what it is now. You've got Fields waiting in the wings, so I think it makes sense if you get a real good offer, you move Joe. I think you make that deal considering you get two young cheap good players and possibly another for a player who might not stay with us.
-
I have said it a million times. Crede how now entered into elite status for his position. If we trade him, we also need an elite player in that position or a few cant miss younger players. If that is not available, then we dont trade him at all. IMO if we trade Crede, it should be for a top of the rotation starter, a serious ACE. If that is not involved, its going to take a little to get my attention. Reason being: We have Crede for another year most likely, we work out a deal or we trade him at the deadline for whatever piece we need and hopefully can use Fields as the replacement by then.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) I disagree, I'd take Brandon over Ervin but that's jmo. I do think pretty highly of Santana though. They would make a nice young 2-3 punch.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Does Michigan City have the CASS program? I'm a mentor at VHS for CASS (Creating A Safer School) and it is a great program that seems to be working here. What does that entail?

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) I think they'll get soriano And continue with that horrible pitching staff.

QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) Of course you have to consider the fact that he missed the 05 season, and his all out playing style(similar to Rowand) might make him prone to injury, but that doesn't mean you should ignore/disregard the present. The present is a healthy Baldelli, showing no ill effects of missing the 05 season, and with a track record of putting up good numbers when healthy. One major injury doesn't necassarily make a guy injury-prone. If nothing else, his trade value might be lower than what it should be because he missed the 05 season. Plus the fact that he is only twenty-five has to make you believe that his best years are ahead of him. I am not saying that he is the best option or my top option, but he is a name to keep an eye on and is a better option than most of the names being tossed around. And half of this year as well. Oh and the guy has had a whopping 44 games batting lead off. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) But you know what? Just because 1 guy was able to move into a new park without having his numbers decrease doesn't mean that all home/road performance metrics are worthless. A lot of times, there are specific reasons why people are good in one place and bad in others. One should be careful in evaluating the driving forces before making blanket statements. Would one have expected Soriano's numbers to decrease moving from Texas to Washington? Based only on the ballparks, yes. But on the other hand, Soriano also was not going to be facing as good of pitching when moving to the NL. So there are multiple dynamics at work here. I don't know why Ervin Santana was worse in one place than in another. Sometimes it just happens. But you can't just throw the numbers out the window because they didn't apply to Soriano. Every expert on this board said that Soriano couldnt hit outside of his ballpark, and his power numbers especially wont be there. There are factors about everything, lineups, coaching, s*** if the hot tub in the clubhouse is nice enough. Fact is, Santana is a good pitcher. He is young, talented, and is worth a lot IMO.

QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) That is an interesting name. Everyone assumes that Crawford will be the first OF moved from the D-Rays, but I was thinking about Baldelli instead. Baldelli would net the D-Rays a nice return, plus he would be a very good fit for the Sox. Hits for average, has pop, has good speed, is solid defensively(can play any of the outfield positions), hits lefties well, is young, and will be realitively cheap. The one thing that I don't like about Baldelli is his plate disipline, but I hope that it will improve a little as he gets older. In order to get Crawford, the Sox would have to probably give up McCarthy and another good prospect, but they might not need McCarthy to land Baldelli. Thats what you dont like about Baldelli? How about the fact that he hasnt been healthy in a few years? -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) This post makes no sense. You think Anaheim stadium is a hitter's park (disagree) but it doesn't explain why he is terrible on the road, and why it would make sense to acquire him when he would pitch in Anaheim maybe once next season if he was on our team. If a guy doesn't play well in the other 29 parks, I don't want him on our team. You know, before this year, people said Soriano couldnt hit in any other parks.

I just dont understand what it takes to motivate you to walk into a school, and just open fire on innocent people. Especially in the case of the guy who didnt even know anyone at the school. its just sick. Are school shootings the new way for people to try and get their points across?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) I thought Musburger was siding with Iowa, but that's two differentt persepctives. But hey, my team beat Northern Iowa by one, so I'll go chew on that. I thought they were too. IN fact it annoyed me that they kept talking about how unreal the atmosphere was in Iowa City, saying that the Bucks were going to have a hard time with the "hostile crowd." Apparently these guys forgot that we went down to Austin for a #1 vs #2 showdown weeks ago. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) It turned into a huge fiasco. Yeah, the Tigers overpaid for him, and we got Jermaine Dye at a discount.....Oh and a ring.
