    Jury Duty

I got called in for a federal case downtown dealing with gang members drugs and guns. I was surprised to see the defendants sitting in the courtroom across from the jury box during the selection. i dont think I can name names but a certain member of the 1985 bears was sitting with me on the jury. The selection process took forever as the judge asked us all questions with folllow ups in the back room. I was only able to get dismissed after telling them how against guns I am and how drug dealers should have longer penalties.
  2. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) Addition by subtraction.... that is unless the cubs pay him 14 mill a year... Then its subtraction multiplied by subtraction... if the cubs lose 30+ Hr's and 100+ rbi's they will officially be trying to win every game 1-0
  3. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) Yeah, but Smith has better stats when the moon is in its second phase against teams who's name falls in the second half of the alphabet. There are kind of more than 4 minutes in a game. Smith has better stats in every area expect yards (which has a lot to do with the play-calling), including almost a 30-point passer rating difference. Plus has a 169 to -7 rushing edge, and happens to play for the #1 ranked team in the country. But yeah, I can't see why anyone would hype him up... Yeah hes no good. Seriously though, I never said ND sux, but they just arent an elite team. Brady Quinn plays in one of the best offensive schemes in College football and still doesnt look as impressive as he should. And the defense is still SLOW. I would have love to see the Bucks run freely all over them like they did last year, but unfortunately we wont get the chance this year.
  4. Everyone on here keeps calling him a dog, etc. But the guy flat out has great stats. Even with his lazy attitude, he will produce over 100 RBI's for you.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) You'd give A Ram Konerko type money? I think he very well may GET that type of money, but I wouldn't want to be the team giving him that kind of paper. But the Angles do need a bat, so they probably will do it, however Scoscia isn't going to like A Ram when he sees how much of a dog he is in terms of hustle and how he hits when it matters. Yup, I would. Last three seasons: .318 .373 36 hr 103 RBI .302 .358 31 92 .291 .352 38 119 Playing 3B, he would demand that type of a contract. Hes only 28 years old as well. There is no doubt in my mind he will get what Kong got or even more.
  6. I would sign Young to play 2B and trade gooch for pitching, I would have no problem with that at all.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) What are the other teams expected to bid high for him? I imagine the Dodgers and Angels would like a power surge. Cubs may catch a small break in the fact that NYY won't be interested if they're really keeping A-Rod, and Boston may be happy enough with Lowell not to be too interested. Also Mets won't need him. So some of the big spenders won't be a factor. With that said, he likely wouldn't do this if he and his agent thought they could get a pay bump. They'll have a lot of pressure from their fan base to not lose him. If I am the Angels, I am giving him Konerko-type money.
  8. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) Or how USC stays ahead of ND after a loss to lowly OSU, or Tennesee barely winning at home, or Auburn barely winning, or Texas having to rally. ND just isnt that good, I wish people would figure that out. Brady Quinn is one of the most over hyped players in the NCAA and the defense is SLOW. Also, everyone keeps touting OSU-Michigan for good reason, but watching U of M have such trouble with some crappy teams makes me very skeptical of their talent.
  9. BTW, A-ram opts for free agency. The "increased payroll" for the cubs will take a huge hit in the bidding war for A-ram.
  10. I guess people dont remember last year when we were "lucky" in the playoffs.
  11. QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) lowest win total by a world champion. underdogs? hell no. lucky as f***? Yep I wish your ship would just sink already.
  12. Young is exactly the type of hitter we want on this team. Hits to opposite fields, has a propensity to get the big RBI, great character guy.

    Bye Bye Taurus

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) We should have talked a few months ago. Went out pretty much expecting to wind up in a new Corolla, took a look at that car and the Civic, wound up walking away having spent more money on the Civic and being pretty darn happy about it. LOVE my lexus (toyota). I have owned 3 jeeps all were terrible, especially when Chrysler bought them out. Chrysler IMO makes the worst cars on the market followed closely by ford.
  14. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 03:53 PM)
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) KW wouldn't take Prior for Vazquez...atleast I hope he wouldn't. The gamble for greatness is the same in both pitchers, so why bring in the one who has been hurt like every year since his 2nd year in the league? I would take prior over Vaz.
  16. 1. Best airport 2. Worst airport 3. Best airline 4. Worst airline 5. Longest air travel excursion 6. Funniest/best/worst air travel experiences. This is easy I travel a ton and have VERY strong opinions on this. 1. Best Airport. Midway-for chicago. O hare is a nightmare to get to for me. Also Orange County, Denver, White plains-ease of car rental 2. Worst airport-no doubt is DFW in dallas. 25 min ride from rental car drop off. Have to tkae busses and trains to and from each gate. Terrible highway system. 3. best airline. I fly southwest and united. I like them both. Economy plus is awesome. 4. Worst airline. This is a no doubter-delta. Expensive, terrible hubs, lose baggae all the time. 5. Longest trip was from chicago to Germany 6. Worst travel experience was sitting next to a guy who should have bought 2 seats. He had the armrest up instead and was just leaning his fat ass into me.
  17. QUOTE(VAfan @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) All the talk about Ichiro is misguided IMO. First, Seattle is not trading him. He puts fans in the seats. Seattle is owned by a Japanese businessman. It's not happening, period. Second, why spend $12.5 million a year on Ichiro AND trade away valuable prospects to make it happen?? If the Sox want a prominent lead-off hitter who can play LF, then bid for Alfonso Soriano. He may end up costing even more than $12.5 million/year, but he won't cost any prospects, and he'll hit 40 more HRs. To take on either Ichiro's or Soriano's contract will probably require us to move one of our big-5 starters, but why not get something else in return for such a trade? Ichiro is better than Soriano for what we need IMO. Soriano isnt quite the lead off hitter nor the fielder than Ichiro is. Also Soriano DID put up those monster numbers in the NL, which is a bit suspect.
  18. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) I'm wondering if you realize that LF is easier to play than RF. I'm thinking you don't. Yes I do realize that, and I was not ripping on you, I was laughing at your witty remarks. I am in favor of whatever works.
  19. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) Ichiro is simply not worth it. If we're going to throw those types of players around in a deal, we better get something back better than a 32 year old with a .786 OPS the last two seasons. HAHAHAHAHAHA, yes lets value a lead off man by his OPS. Welcome to baseball kid. Seattle is going to need pitching, they have none. Mark Buehrle would be a good trading chip for them.
  20. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) I fail to see any huge adjustments in moving from rf to lf, unless from watching Pods, Dye has become convinced that a lf must be slow-reacting and throw poorly. This sounds like the logic that kept Kaz Matsui at ss when you've got Jose Reyes. No thanks. hahah hilarious. It could be true, the best way to prove it is to see it. Come on KW!!
  21. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) i realize its a show and all but to say the hatch is nothing but a hole in the ground yet the three in the hatch get blown outward to various parts of the island without any major injuries was pretty laughable. and this is from a HUGE fan. Locke's flashback was interesting as it showed him getting burned again by someone he trusted. Kind of like how they were in a plane crash with barely and major injuries, and how Locke can magically walk again.....But yeah, this is the first instance of that.
  22. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) My common sense works the other way. Keep the better fielder in the more difficult, important position. Well, mine works as you can move the more flexible and talented player to a new position while not taking a chance with the less talented less flexible guy in a new position.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Umm besides this last game where Vasher has looked bad, I dont know where you come up with the conclusion that the ball is thrown more to him than Tillman. The Cards was so bad so idonno what the split was between the 2 but the entire season QB's have been throwing to the guy Tillman has been covering. Because Tillman usually gives them a little room for the short pass but tackles them right away for a small gain. Only prob with the Cards is that Boldin was abusing us Boldin and other larger WR's will post up Vasher, that is where Peanut is better for us. He is a larger presence and can lock down the bigger guys. Vasher should stay on the speed guys as much as possible, actually he should sit back in the zone because thats where he gets his picks.
  24. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) What?!? I thought this was by far the best episode this season, if not the best episode since the first season. They changed up the story telling (flashback with boone was crazy) and they opened up more theories (as usual). The give more background to a character that seemed to be guarded...a background which was way outta left field. Also, that polar bear jumping through the fire scared the piss outta me. I agree, plus the vision with Boone told us a little about the future. I really liked where they picked up with Locke. I cant wait for next week.
  25. I really really think this is our best chance of improving our pitching this year. KW should really pursue it IMO.
