  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) I'll be giving Friday Night Lights a whirl, gonna DVR it. I couldnt have been more dissapointed with the show. Why didnt they just call it Varsity Blues 2? The characters are just over blown reproductions of other shows and movies. They really just amplify the characters to the point where its too unrealistic.
  2. Twins down 2 games to none. Relying on the pitching of Silva to keep their hopes alive.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Baseball Mogul. A cheaper OOTP. OOTP is so sexual.
  4. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) Okay so 8mil to Frank for 1 season, versus over 20mil to Thome for his contract. Still was cheaper to keep Frank. As to my "blind love of Frank", so far no one has brought any statistics to the argument except for me. You rely on: AL Central is better. Yet do not bring the stats to back it up. I actually did the research to show that Thome and Thomas had basically statistically equal seasons. You still have not addressed the talent given up for Thome, as everyone just harps on the money. Thomas would have cost 0 talent. Thome cost, Rowand and Gio. Those 2 could have been used elsewhere. Ill just agree to disagree and not have to deal with your blind hate of Thomas. Do you ever read anything other than what you want to see? I dont hate thomas, I love him in fact and I have been rooting for him throughout the playoffs and his whole career. I was actually the one who posted their stats on this thread and showed that Thome was statistically superior this year. AL central IS better, we have 2 team who are in the playoffs and have a great collection of talented players, including more MVP's candiadates, Cy Young candidates, rookie of the year, etc etc. Rowand and GIO are garbage, Rowand is avg at best and Gio is a prospect who most likely wont pan out any time soon, big deal. If we brought back Frank Konerko would be in an angels uni, then who would be the winner of that situation? Seriously just stop, there is no end to this debate and both of us like Frank anyway. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) Thome .288 .416 1.014 OPS 42 hr 109 RBI 108 runs Thomas .270 .381 .926 OPS 39 hr 114 RBI 77 runs Explain how that was his biggest blunder ever. here is the stats that I posted BTW
  5. its apparent that your blind love of Frank wont let you even take in other factors in why it was a good thing that he left. Agree to disagree.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) Starting Rotation 1. Jon Garland 2. Javier Vazquez 3. Ervin Santana 4. Brandon McCarthy 5. Cesar Carillo/Jon Danks I respect your opinion and all. But IMO, that rotation is good for another 3rd place finish in the AL Central. We need to improve our lineup, not inject several unproven younger players hoping that they can carry us.
  7. My favorite move is when there is a lane closure coming up. I stay in the closing lane, but keep even with my intial position and therefor block people from rushing into the merged lane at the last second. It really pisses people off.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) You know what else is lame? SO stating that he had a bad playoff series in 2000 is lame? Wow, I guess im just a hater.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 08:58 AM) FWIW, there was a recent blurb in the Tribune where Ozzie said that the Sox are going to start to scout Latin America better in order to try and find some players. Maybe that's one of the good things about having Ozzie as our manager. That and having not only a WS ring, but stringing together consecutive 90 win seasons.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) To be honest, there are only two shows I have ever watched that belong in a category with LOST, and that is old ER, and the Sopranos. Sopranos would be the runaway winner for me if they showed it on a regular basis, but as such, is about even with LOST. Its such a great show. I was very skeptical until I rented season 1 on Dvd, then bought season 2 on the black market and now cant wait to see the next episode. Oh and BTW, I hate when shows show 6 episodes then let you sit for a few months before delivering 15 more.
  11. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:31 AM) Hey fellas, I've only seen parts of "LOST". I checked it out mostly b/c I am a huge fan of this guy: That pic was taken from www.nudemalecelebrities.net, by the way. Best Jack Black voice: That's how I roll. Anyways, the point of me posting in this thread: I heard that they introduce new characters. Like, other dudes get "lost" and somehow end up on the same deserted island. Is this true? Because if it is, well, you know.... That's enough to hold me back from ever getting into this show. You can't introduce new characters with a plot like that, unless they are natives of that particular island or whatever. nothing should hold you back from watching the greatest show on TV
  12. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) Tell 'em, Badger. It's sad when Frank haters have to get so lame as to say he wouldn't do what he did this year in the AL Central. Frank is great. Period. Once again, nobody is hating on Frank, its pretty lame to drop in the middle of a thread and have nothing of substance to add other than being a cheerleader. The AL central has the best pitching in the major leagues, bar none. It is a better division that the AL west. Odds are its harder to produce offensively in such a pitching rich division, thats all. It may not have been the case, but the odds are in favor of that happening.
  13. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) And David Wright doesn't have his winning smile. Crede's my favorite Sox player, and he's a very good player, but let's not get carried away. Unless Chavez's forearm problem lingers for years, his bat is better than Crede's. Even if some of the power just leaks away (which I don't see), he's a big on-base guy. And ARod is one of the best players of this era. Crede is not that calibre player, nor very close. Rodriguez, Chavez, Atkins, Wright, Zimmerman, Teahen, Cabrera, Ramirez, Rolen (when healthy), and Chipper (ditto) are all at least as valuable as Crede. I don't want to see him traded, I hope a deal can be worked out, but if it doesn't happen and we get a good package of young players in return (hopefully, and, I think, realistically, 2) -- we can still produce a WS-capable team. You underrate Crede a ton for being your favorite player. His bat this year is better than most of the guys you mentioned, and his glove is top 3 in the league hands down. He is one of the top 3B in the entire MLB.
  14. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) If Eko died...i'll stop watching the show. what about Locke?
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Rock, How could the Sox not have bought Frank out and then paid him slightly more than the A's? He activated his player option at 10 million dollars. That is what I am talking about. If you want to talk if's and talk what would have happened negotiation, that will be a long conversation. If we bought him about for 3.5, do you really think Frank would have signed with us for 500k? In fact I believe that with the A's deal its going to to be worth around 4million from what I saw. Which would mean Frank would make 7.5 million this year, which is close to what Thome makes. So for the same price you get better production and a left handed power bat out of Thome. BTW I wasnt trying to be condescending, I was pointing out that Frank would have made more money, and Thome's production is much higher in every sense except RBI's. IMO we got the better end of the situation, its just too bad our team underperformed and was in the best division in baseball.
  16. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 05:20 PM) Allow me to remind those with short memories (most of you, it seems), that if Thomas was still with the Sox, his salary would have been upwards of 10M, due to his option. So before you compare salaries, remember that what the A's got him for we never EVER could have had him for, instead, he would have cost about 3M MORE per year than Thome, for less production. But thanks for playing, n00bs. Now shut up about Thomas, talking about how he's back in the playoffs and the Sox arent. If the Sox were in that division we would be, just so happens we were in the strongest division in baseball, thus inferior teams with lesser records made it. apparently you didnt notice my post exactly one before yours. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Who removed a post? I don't think my 'powers' apply to this board anymore, and if they did, I wouldn't use them. I don't think I've ever removed a post in my history as a mod. I find it funny you call me an ass, and then go on to talk about being the bigger man. If you really want me to, I'll delete my post and send it to the gutter. Anti-Frank people have seemingly struck a nerve with me today. Who is anti-frank??? I havent seen an anti Frank post yet. But saying that Thome was a huge mistake, and then saying that we lost money of that deal is downright retarded. Frank would have been more expensive, probably wouldnt have produced as well in our division (which is superior to the AL west) and Thome was a monster this year anyway. The situation worked out pretty well for both teams, it happens.
  17. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) Compare Frank and Jim's salary, then post those stats again. Rock on Big Frank. Sure, Frank would have cost us 10 million. Thome cost us less. Any questions?
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Ahh, I see the "Frank never did anything for us in the postseason" crew has already arrived. Hah, some of you guys really crack me up. f***ing FRANK THOMAS!!!! What a game!!!! Greasy, make sure you don't mention that Godchild Paul Konerko went 0-for-9 with 1 BB in the 2000 playoffs. Because, if you DARE say a bad word about Pauly Konerko, you're fishin' for some trouble. Don't bring up "O-E-O, MAGGLIO", either, who hit just .182 in the 2000 playoffs. It was all big jerk Frank's fault we lost in 2000, and don't you forget that!!!! I Dont recall anyone saying that Frank was the only one who didnt show up. If thats in here please copy it. The whole damn offense didnt show up, but that includes Frank.
  19. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) So sad he's still not a White Sox. I love Thome, but Frank is in the postseason; Jimmy is not. KW's biggest blunder ever. Thome .288 .416 1.014 OPS 42 hr 109 RBI 108 runs Thomas .270 .381 .926 OPS 39 hr 114 RBI 77 runs Explain how that was his biggest blunder ever.
  20. Later Twins. Santana needs to win every start in the series for them to win it. He now lost maybe his only start.
  21. QUOTE(cuddlyboy26 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Ok lets just say hypotheticaly that Rex had 30 TD passes, Eli had around 25, McNabb had 30 as well, Hasselback had around 25 too, and Vick had 15 but his usual scramble plays and the Falcons were leading the division at 10-4 around at the time. Who do you think would be picked in that hypothetical scenario? According to your scenario, Rex, McNab and Hasselbeck
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) If he had a series like that in either 2000 or 1993, he wouldn't be an ex-White Sox now. No kidding. Instead he disappeared.
