QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) I thought Matsu had some arm troubles this year. Am I correct in this line of thought and if so what were the extent of them? By the way I'd love to get Matsu, but to do so we'd obviously have to move two pitchers (which I have no problem doing). I think Buehrle and Garcia/Vaz will be the one's that go. I really think we could get a ton for Mark and the reality is that he had some serious troubles, yet still has serious value and in a year we may not be able to afford him anyway so now may be the very best time. Of course if I had a crystal ball and knew last year was just an abberation, than I'd give him whatever it took and keep him a career White Sox (cause I think he's a tremendous leader and right now on pace to have a HOF career). From what I hear he is an absolute horse who has even gone over 200 pitches in a game in his pro career. I havent heard anything about arm issues, just overuse issues. Not to mention he dominated in the WBC.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) I'd rather overpay for Matsuzaka. Anyone can suggest to me "Arod has proven himself at the major league level," or "Daisuke dominated inferior Japanese talent," but I personally prioritize starting pitching over offense. His presence could make it easier to absorb the lost of several starters (Buehrle?) in a season or two. I've said it many times before, offense can be compensated across a diamond. For Rodriguez's pricetag, we could duplicate his production across two players. Cut his numbers in half, and expecting two FA's or minor league players to 15-20 HR's and 70 RBI's becomes a realistic expectation. Uribe does that alone. If McCarthy is traded, we're once again depending upon the same five starters from last season to rebound. That's ridiculous, IMO. I wouldn't understand how Williams realized his 2005 rotation needed an upgrade, yet after 2006 -- when it was obvious there was flaws -- trades away McCarthy. It wouldn't make a damn bit of sense. Does anyone even realize how much we'd help the Yankees? Suddenly a team with a 200 million dollar payroll has a 500,000 dollar starter? In addition to Hughes upcoming promotion and Wang's salary, that's a relatively cheap threesome. They'll have an abundance of money to spend wisely. I believe Cashman and company realize the importance of quality signings now. Just as they understand how crucial a contributing minor league system is. Agreed. Matsu is 26 years old and has been dominating professionals in and out of Japan. I would rather overpay for his talents for the next several years, than take on A-rod for more money.

QUOTE(JackTalkThai @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) Detroit also has the superior pitching staff (and a relatively young one at that) I see Detroit again winning 90+ games next season. Not exactly a plus. Verlander has never pitched this much in his life, Zumaya's forearm troubles should be a red flag. Also Todd Jones and Kenny Rogers are just about done with their careers. Throw in a career year by some really overcheiving bullpem guys (Walker, Grilli) and there is some room to regress IMO.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Good hire for the cubs. They need a hardass in there after the Baker debacle. If only Pinella could magically turn their horrile pitching staff into Ace's

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) If we gave up Brandon but were willing to spend the extra money (in addition to our current payroll) on Arod without having to make any other major changes than I'd be willing to do that deal. The Yanks would obviously need to send a lot of money our way and if we gave up anything else I'd be talking about getting a good prospect in return from the Yanks. There is no guarantee Bmac is legit, there is a guarantee that Arod (when healthy and he's been healthy throughout his career) will be one of the 5 best position players in baseball year in year out. Heres the question, would you rather trade those pieces for A-rod or spend the same amount of money on Matsuzaka?

I dont see Pinella making the cubs any better to be honest with you.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 02:37 AM) Are you going to keep saying "Where's our Liriano" over the next 5-10 years if we don't develop a stud from the region, even though we may be able to develop some fairly solid players (who may be traded because you know KW likes to do that)? Liriano was aquired via trade anyway, which means we can have "our Liriano" by trading active players. -
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) I heard Razor Shines name brought up. He would be ideal as a bench coach, and possible successor to Ozzie. He has experience with a lot of the younger players and he seems to be an up and coming manager. ? So now you are bringing in someone to replace Guillen? Doesnt make much sense to me at this point. You need to have someone who has been in the league a little longer and can be an influence on Ozzie and a polar opposite attitude to the players. You can only have so much Ozzie, we need someone who can communicate in a different way.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Like I said last week, the NFL at all times has 6 teams worth watching and 26 piles of doo doo. Just a hilarious statement. Please continue to rationalize your opinion on this matter, its pure comedy. The NFL is probably the only sport where the standings can change drastically from year to year, but keep going.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Well, with all due respect, him or anyone else on here isn't a manager because we don't have the same oppurtunities and connections than Ozzie Guillen, someone who played the game and has all the connections in the world. You forgot talent. But yeah, you are right.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) After that, you have a decent sized cluster of mediocre teams at best with decent to good records. Man!!! Why cant the NFL be like all other professional sports where every team is elite!!! Damn!!!!!

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 01:08 AM) I'm not quite Kalapse level of genius, but I like to believe I'm a notch below. Criticize all you want, but realistically, how can you ignore our deficiencies on this issue? Thirty percent of major leaguers originate from Latin America, yet we haven't signed and developed a contributing player from this area in 10 years? We're not the damn Royals. This is embarrassing, and needs to change. Travel south of Florida and give yourself a chance to develop pitchers who are out of reach in the draft. Sounds to me like a realistic way of upgrade the starting pitching. May take years for results to arrive, but devoting resources to this issue would prove more beneficial than any ridiculous FA shopping spree. I will tell you what, why dont you name the top 5 scouting teams in latin america, and we shall see how many rings they have won. Scouting is not our problem at all, prospect are overrated, and you need to figure that out. Its hilarious to think that the reason we didnt win the WS this year is because of our scouting in latin american. its like its Mecca. Haahahhaah -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) Ignore the trade market. We're not going to enter, much less win, a bidding war for top-tier starting pitchers. And I'm tired of trading prospects or players on the current roster for starting pitchers. Want an upgrade? Here's my solution: Heavily scout it. Now. Don't want to? Forget about succeeding in this division beyond next season. Nearly 30% of the major leagues is represented from this area, yet we haven't produced any talent out of there since Ordonez and Lee. It's embarrassing. People need to get their act together. Yes, the answer lies in Latin american, Of course!!! Why hasnt anyone thought of that!!!! Man you are a genius.s -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) I just hope when people keep clamouring for Frank Thomas and rip Thome, they remember that Frank is 0 for 10 in the ALCS. And his team is down 3-0. Just like he was 0 for 9 in the ALDS in 2000 and his team lost 3-0. I dont think anyone would rather have Frank than Thome. However there is no reason to rip his performance, he carried this team alot of the 2nd half and the first round. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Well what I am wondering watching the Tigers juggernaut through the playoffs is, do they know their pitching is doomed for next year. I expect all of their arms to have at least a few MPHs off of them. I expect one of them to become a junkballer due to them just changing their philosophy. Because the wear and tear of playoff baseball and 12 more games destroyed our staff supposedly for this year. I expect the same for the next year for the tiggers. They are giving me flashbacks of last year. I expect Verlander to have some issues for real though, as well as the bullpen. Todd Jones will be atrocious and I think Zumaya will have to be converted to closer which will effect Rodney. I do expect some regression.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) I dislike the league because almost all of the teams themselves are bad. That's really all there is to it, and it seems obvious to me that among all the professional sports, football has the most teams in it that are terrible. Parity is a good thing, but a league full of bad teams is not. At least the NBA has a list of 10 or so teams that actually are good enough to do something every year. So professional football teams are just not that good at playing the game????? yet you watch NIU football.....hmmmm someone has a vendetta against the NFL.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 07:38 AM) Subtracting Vazquez will be a major addition in itself. Hahahahah, green??? -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) Oh I'm aware that's why the league is so popular, everybody has a shot. All I'm saying is that the "parity" also waters down the talent, and the product itself on the field is a giant suckfest, with the exception of several very good teams. It is action packed, which is why I REALLY enjoy watching teams like the Bears, Chargers, Eagles, Colts, etc.....but about 26 teams in this league are unwatchably bad. So you hate every professional sport? Because its worse in every other sport, football has the most even amount of talent on the field, and the least amount of games. On any given sunday your team can win, and it can be an important win, which is why the NFL is more fair and just than every other professional sport. Imagine if the MLB only played 16 games, imagine that. The NFL is the most even keeled league where every team has a chance every week, which is the exact opposite of why you dont like the league. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) I think you mean that parity is greater in the NFL than in other leagues. Correct, I stated that wrong.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) It's amazing to me the NFL is so popular. The games and product are a mediocre suckfest to be honest, and the only teams I've seen all year that looked like they were any more than mediocre are the Bears, Chargers, Eagles, Colts, and Jaguars. That leaves 27 of 32 teams. Ouch. The NFL is so popular because the parity is not as great as in other sports. At any given time a city's team can win the superbowl, thats why its so popular. That and the game is amazingly action packed.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) So why exactly are we putting ARod at 3rd base now? You wouldnt, which is why if we traded fields for A-rod with an SP you would HAVE to sign Joe to a long term deal. Anyone who has mentioned trading Joe isnt thinking. If we get A-rod, he plays SS and Uribe is dealt for a bullpen piece.
