  1. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 06:19 PM) Hendry has gotten some good players for nothing (Ramirez and Lee.) He got Cotts fresh off a terrible season and gave up nothing from what I've read. These days when pitching is at a premium we should have been able to get better in return. He got Cotts fresh off of a typical season. He had ONE fluke year and was horrendous last year. We received a guy with closer stuff and a LHP prospect. Comparing Cotts to Ramirez and Lee is ridiculous and ignorant IMO.
  2. Basically this thread is one of the gayest of the gays.
  3. If you have a chance to pick up one of the best players in the game, you do it. Wells not only plays GG defense, but would be one of the best hitters on the team.
  4. It appears that the sox are picking up the mentality of aquiring as many hard throwers for our pen as we can. As it stands right now, the last 4 guys out of the pen throw 96+ I wouldnt be surprised to see KW pick up Speier (whom I like) to complete the back end of the pen with 5 guys who have closer stuff. Throw in some middle relief (haeger, Riske) and we have a nice pen IMO.
  5. QUOTE(wsdp @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) Couple thoughts that I haven't seen brought up yet... 1) Sheff is a righty... Tigers needed lefty bats last year so it doesn't fill that need althought he immediately becomes their best right handed hitter... 2) SANCHEZ *INJURY* is what kept Tigers from dealing him to Washington for Soriano... Once Sanchez missed that infamous start in Toledo, Washington backed off... Sanchez when on the shelf briefly, came back and hurt the same elbow... Moral of the story, I think the Tigers knew more about Sanchez's medical history (and tapped his future as questionable) than they let on ... this is the same organization that let John Smoltz go for Doyle Alexander... they won't repeat that mistake again. As for Sheff's "clubhouse" issues - Leyland was happy as a pig in slop... he's a large supporter of Sheff and will surely keep him in check in the clubhouse... The Tigers clubhouse was very happy go lucky last year - IRod, Mags, and the like all got along because Leyland changed the attitude... there were never any problems in their clubhouse last year. Did you bring up this point yet? 38 years old, cant use the juice anymore.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) You know, with Cleveland's bullpen...drop Cedeno and stick in another reliever and they might be open to it. If I was Cle, and I was going to trade Westbrook, I would demand at least Eyre and Howry, Cedeno is garbage.
  7. Cubs fans also think that Cotts+Cedeno will bring them Westbrook from the tribe.
  8. Maybe the cubs will solidify their rotation with Gil Meche and Neal Cotts.... If AArdsma can ever figure his stuff out, we have 4 relievers with closer-type stuff. Jenks, Thorton, MMAC, and AArdsma
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) If anyone thinks Neal can start, they're severely mistaken. Cubs fans and Hendry must not have seen enough of Neal to be able to judge his talent. He may tear up the NL because it is an inferior league, but from what I saw out of him last year, he is deceptive, and that is all.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) More of that high end insight from rotoworld.com or I mean the associated cub fan who writes for mlbtraderumors.com He didnt lose any stuff. Lets see Neal Cotts was winging a 93 mph fastball in there in 05 and had every batter on their heals because he pitched ahead an stayed ahead. Now every other year outside of 05, Neal would work into hitting counts, and was hitting a 91 mph fastball and little to no secondary pitches. I still remember when he would Rick Ankiel a few into the backstop. These reviews are funny at best. Especially when one of hte contributors is a cub fan. You have one year, that is completely differerent than any of their others. Yet lets jump on the one year and ride it into the sunset as the norm instead of the wierd thing. Oh god, from my perspective as a cubs hater, I hope they try to put Neal into the rotation.
  11. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) Left handed relief is probably second most desired commodity in MLB-and we dont get much for an established pitcher. My guess is they return Cotts to starter-because they already have Eyre and Howry-a complete Sox bullpen I wouldnt say one good season merits being called an established reliever. He was beyond brutal last year, and has since developed a habit for giving up the long ball. He wasnt needed, so we dealt him.
  12. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 03:07 AM) The Devil Rays won't trade Baldelli or Crawford to the White Sox unless McCarthy is involved. I love some of these White Sox prospects just as much as the next person. As any fan of there team will. Still, it's not happening unless McCarthy is involved. And Baldelli isnt worth BMAC so theres where the problem is. Baldelli may be worth an average young guy like Rich Hill, but no way could you give up a solid starter like BMAC.
  13. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) We're not going to agree on this, as I mentioned reading people's opinions of this matter is making us all more dumb. The Red Sox can be "stupid idiots" but I guess every other team in the Majors other than the White Sox that bid outrageous figures as well, only to miss out by a couple million dollars are.. lucky? By your knowledge, the White Sox are smart and every other team in baseball isn't. Blah Blah Blah. you were making ok points until this rant. We know that the Red Sox are your team, we know you will support them, enough already.
  14. I would, however, trade BA in a package for Baldelli, as I heard he was on the trading block.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) So what about a team like ND who doesn't have a confrence? Why should they get off easy when it comes to winning their confrence like other teams have to do? Doesnt matter, they are second tier and do not belong in the BCS championship game anyway. Give their fans a meaningless bowl game to watch and call it a season.
  16. I still cant believe that the most money in the MLB for one player is going towards an unproven Japanese player, who is rumored to be overworked. Its almost unreal.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 06:28 AM) Figured this deserved it's own thread, instead of just dumping it in the off-season thread. From today's Sun Sentinel down in Florida; Andino wasn't in the Marlins top 20 prospects in John Sickels list coming into this season (although that's more due to the depth of the Marlins system as a whole). He's 22 and had splits of .255/.303/.363 in the PCL for Alberquque this season. For comparisons sake, Joaquin Arias who the Rangers may offer up for Brian Anderson, had splits of .268/.296/.361 in the PCL also this season. I'd hope to do better for BA quite frankly. it sounds like a media outlet for a team just thinking up trades, BA is worth more than that, but to the marlins fans, they expect the world for fringe prospects, as does every fan. Its just a thought, nothing more.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Or we could just deal the guys we get from the Mets/Yankees. exactly, which would translate to Garcia or Vaz for Crawford, which is a steal. I think we can move enough pieces to make a splash.
  19. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) I am your father. God, I wonder what the White Sox bid. Lets say the White Sox won the bid for $30 million dollars. What would you say then? And wipe that chocolate off your face. Can you believe that your team will pay this guy over 20 million a year to pitch for them? Its almost unreal.
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) Good job, Kalapse. I'm glad you see it. Tillman gets raped by Bears fans for no damn reason. I'm glad he's on our side. He deserved it after that game. He got called out and responded, I like it.
  21. If you trade one of our starters to the Mets or Yankees for top pitching spects, it makes BMAC expendable for Crawford IMO. Which is a nice situation to be in.
  22. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) trade iguchi & dye to the yankees for cano and melky cabrera, then use the money saved from the trade to acquire a proven bullpen cornerstone and ink crede to a long term deal. huh?
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) So he signed for longer and more per year than his original deal thanks to a clause in his contract that Hendry allowed, and Hendry's trying to say they're getting a "discount." Talk about a snake oil salesman. He also claims that Kerry Wood had the chance to get a muti year deal for more money on the open market. He is hoping that the cubs fans believe everything out of his mouth.
  24. Damn, I really wanted him to take off.
  25. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) Well, no matter how much money Boras has to move around, you just have to figure there must be reasonable medical opinion telling him that a real rehab has a good shot of success, or we wouldn't go through this. At this point in Crede's career, if medical folks are telling him that the surgery is a better option in terms of healing and he says no, he'd have to be crazy; it could cost him tens of millions of dollars Hey, I trust them. But from my experience ( I was 21 by the way) and very very well trained, I could NOT rehab that sucker, and to this day its not as right as I would like it. But I hope Joe has greater success.
