in case anyone misssed it, Dusty said that the 9th inning is going to be by commitee.

QUOTE(loltrain @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Lidge still has great stuff, he just can't throw strikes. And when you can't throw strikes you end up leaving meatballs over the plate. A .238 baa and 4 homers given up isn't good for a closer, but it's not horrendous. Pettite should have been pulled before the last inning though, he definitely seemed to be out of gas. Verlander with a 5 pitch inning in the 8th. Verlander has been nothing short of stellar for my fantasy team.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) So, are you backing your boy Joe Morgan? The guy is amazing. You can argue that he is a Top 5 closer in the majors. I would take Papelbon, Rivera, Nathan, Rodriguez, and Billy Wagner before Jenks, but that's about it. I mean, unless I'm forgetting about someone... Are you basing your preference on this year, or historically? This year I would say that Rodriguez, Rivera, and Billy Wagner are all beneith Jenks in my standings IMO. My personal preference based on this year's performances only would be: 1. papelbon 2. Ryan 3. Nathan 4. Jenks 5.Hoffman

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 12:44 PM) I hope he never loses his "stuff" because he throws in patterns. Fastball Fastball Slider Fastball 2 strikes: Curve Last night he threw his slider on the first pitch to the second batter, and i believe the 2nd pitch to the first batter.

What was the worst trade in baseball history?
RockRaines replied to thedoctor's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Jermaine Dye for Nefi Perez. I cant believe nobody is giving this trade any love. -
QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) I'm not saying he doesn't struggle, but he still more often then not will get the save. That's all that matters in the end. In these days, more often than not doesnt work for a closer. 4 blown saves at this point in the season has already killed Dempster's chance at being the full time closer. You need to be near perfect to keep your job in the MLB, and his ERA will catch up to him. Just wait until he blows consecutive saves one weekend and get back to me.

Torres was the only guy who would interest me. But Polite is having a nice showing in his rehab starts, and I would rather stick with what we have. We havent even used Riske to his fullest yet, and he holds a sub 4 ERA for his career.

QUOTE(Be Good @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) Jessica is much better looking the Ashlee. I beg to differ, have you seen the comparison's lately?

The bigger story in town is not the Sox beating up on the dismal NL Central, but watching the cubs get beaten up by everybody. The question of whether or not Dusty Baker gets fired is a more controversial story in general than us beating the lowly Pirates IMO.

Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
RockRaines replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) To take your point further, can you imagine if the SOX followed your advice regarding AJ Pierzynski? Heck the guy "historically" before joining the SOX has hit somewhere in the .250's with 12 (or so) Homers being his career high in HR's last year. Do you ever stop being wrong? AJ has hit in the .250's ONCE in his career and that was with the sox. Also Thome is a HOF'er. He has historically been one of the most prolific power hitters of this generation. Go ahead and give him "advice" on striking out, im sure thats a huge problem considering his .400+ OBP all these years. :rolly QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) 1st in AL in HR 2nd in AL in R 8th in AL in OBP 4th in AL in OPS 4th in AL in RBI 4th in AL in BB 2nd in AL in SLG Yes, he needs your advice. maybe I should just go back to this one. -
Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
RockRaines replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) I know how Thome has played his whole career, and I hate strikeouts, especially ones where all your doing is swinging for the fences.Seriously, once again proving you know nothing about jim Thome and the way he plays the game. Jim Thome 2006 .284 BA .414 OBP .608 SLG 1.022 OPS Career .281 .408 .564 .972 Thome has struck out over 139 times 9 seasons in a row. It would have been 10 if he wasnt hurt last year. His 162 games avg for his career is 164 K's with his high being 185. He has hit over .300 only three times. This is the best season he has had since 2002. At his current pace he is projected to hit 53 HR and 139 RBI's. Over his career he has avg 40 HR and 111 RBI. Since he is having one of his best years to date, and is just in line if not better than his career numbers, I would say your criticism of his production and his approach to batting is unjustified and baseless. If you would like to please counter point these facts and statistics, I would encourage you to do so. But your opinion based drabble and unnecessary advice is really ridiculous. Thanks -
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) I definitely think Minny will have a better record than Detroit from this point forward. On another post, I have them playing between .600 and .667 ball and ending up with 94-95 wins. How can you say this?

Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
RockRaines replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Crossing my fingers at last response, which said Thome was taking close pitches and not swinging at the good pitchers pitches. Whats wrong with that? Please define "pointless thread". Your posts tend to be pointless, but I dont interrupt the flow of a thread to say that, I simply dont say anything. Anyway, If Thome starts doing what he was doing in April, refusing to swing at everything for the sake of swinging, and takes his Walks, he will start to see More Strikes for sure, because pitchers wont want to walk him to face Konerko & Dye consecutively. Whats wrong with that assertion? (Answer: Nothing) Pointless thread: Asking a player to stop producing the way he has been producing his whole hall of fame career. Giving one of the best hitter in the league advice on how to hit. Starting a thread and then continuing to show that you know nothing about Jim Thome and how he has played the game his whole career. -
minny, I sent you a PM.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) Eh, JC will probably start because of Ozzie but you can definitely make a case for others. JC is the most dominant pitcher since the last all star game.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) (crossing fingers) Crossing Fingers for what? That you wont start another pointless thread? That Thome will hit .340 with 85 dingers? -
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) I'm going to go back to my original thought, which is that Minnesota is going to end up with 94-95 wins this year. Would you like to place a wager on that?
-
I'd rather have Torres than either of those guys. IN fact I dont know if I would want any of those guys. How many of them are an upgrade over what we have?
-
Contreras is undefeated and yet still doesnt make the list as starter? Glaus? Please.

Official Game Thread 6/27 - Sox vs Pirates 6:05
RockRaines replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Dan Wheeler is so weak. Why even put him in the game? -
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Would the Tigers trade away Guillen? It seems sort of foolish, particularly with some of the speculation swirling about Tejada. Could be a big risk for the Tigers. I believe even the Royals have inquired about Tejada, everyone inquires. im sure we have as well.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) I just had to post and say the Detroit Tigers are pissing me off. They win every single fricking day. Geez give me a break ... turn back into the Tigers you bunch of stiffs! Much like the Indians of last year, they are feeding on the NL. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) 128 teams??? Jesus are these people nuts? My head would explode.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) Ok but why would we want Cora instead of Uribe. The point would be to upgrade the SS not to shed payroll. There is no reason to get Cora, except to take him off the hands of the Red Sox.
