Some things just get outdated. The rotary phone, riding horses everywhere, bloodletting, and letting the pitcher hit. Its the dumbest s*** ever.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) I was speculating on the samething myself. I came up with about 2/3s of the way up the backwall to the party patio. The replay on chisox.com is funny because the broadcasters are the Rangers guys.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) Are you being serious? There is no way that was 435. The wall is 400 feet there, and it only was about 5 feet from hitting the kids area all of the way at the top of the upward sloping grass area that serves as a batters eye there. That shot was 450-475 feet legitimately. The best was watching Sarge Jr just turn around and watch it. Side note: Mahay grew up a huge sox and Harold Baines fan.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Well, I believe it was you who said something like "How long until redandwhite comes in an says that this was the best trade the Red Sox ever made and how David Riske sucks?" I mean, you called him out. Actually I didnt. If you would like to see who did, I would suggest scrolling back a few pages

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Whats awful is the false, and just downright wrong information RockRaines was giving out in the 'Ab Workouts' thread from last week. You mean this Soxfan? Sounds like a personal remark that had no relevance in the thread at all. This is what started it.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) It's over and done with, but don't think I'm not going to bring that embarrassing stuff up when you call me out in a thread that needed no such doing. ...And I suppose I'm game aswell. Yes, you are a beast, who wouldnt take fitness advice from this specimen. be gone.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Whats awful is the false, and just downright wrong information RockRaines was giving out in the 'Ab Workouts' thread from last week. Go away dude, you couldnt even read the thread to know who I was giving info to. Reading is fundamental. If you would ever like to compare physique's or fitness levels with me, im game. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) Maybe his first season but he has gotten steadily better since his first season..... maybe you should watch more sox and i say the word sox games in general. At least Ozzie cant hear his criticisms, he had two World Series rings plugging his ears.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 04:41 AM) Yeah Dayton Moore's really going to want a lot for him, and so he should. They don't really have any prospects that are ready to take CF, and DeJesus is signed to a very affordable 5 year deal. He should be a building block for that organization. They need more DeJesus's and less Reggie Sanders'. They need to deal sweeney, Elarton, Sanders, Graff, Mink, Redman, and pick up some prospects for them. Someone will be willing to pick up these guys at the deadline.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Although I hate Ozzie's obsession with the Lefty/Right matchup, I due enjoy his willingness to use Jenks in non-save situations. Ozzie seems to understand that a high leverage inning is a high leverage inning--regardless if the Sox are tied, up one, or down one. For example, I believe in the 2nd 4-3 win against the Tigers, Ozzie brought Jenks into the game in the 8th although the Sox weren't winning. Jenks worked a quick inning and the rest is a White Sox winner. I'd say Ozzie overall does a good job with the bullpen. It's one of his strong suits as a manager. I agree with you, and I will add one little piece that I like about the situation. He quickly finds out if the pitcher can pitch for him or not. Throwing Logan into his pressure situations proved that he cannot handle the majors yet. Putting Jenks into save situations last year, and letting him succeed was a huge positive. He likes to find out what he has as quickly as possible. Case in point: Nelson on the DL. I wouldnt be surprised to see Riske putting in some work tonight. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Ick, I kind of agree, I felt the overall thought that Ozzie tends to play the matchups far too often in an attempt to have righties face righties and lefties face lefties which gets annoying but considering what he's had to work with he's done a fairly good job this year with the exception of how he's handled McCarthy. Also, you have to admit the way he used Cotts early in the year to start off the 9th instead of going to Jenks right away was just ridiculously stupid. Ill agree with you there, some of the moves when he favors matchups reek of Dusty Baker. But he also knows when to put his best arm in the game. I think he has figured out what BMAC will give him, and I think part of his indecision to start the year was the question of whether BMAC could prepare correctly and come out of the pen for an inning or two a night. I think he has let him adjust, and it has worked out lately.

Seriously, im hoping for a cubs sweep. True sox fans would rather have first place than have the cubs lose.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) The Sox outfield in general is just one Jermaine Dye slump from being the worst in the majors. It's a scary thought, but it will happen at some point this season. Ozuna had a great night in the box score, but his 2 hits were just weakly hit balls that luckily fell in. He misplayed a ball in LF and had to make a diving effort on a rather routine play. I don't think a trade is necessary, but going forward into 2007, I don't feel Pods should be part of this outfield equation. If BA is going to give little to nothing offensively, and Dye is another year older, than we sure as hell better have a masher in LF. One word: Cabrera. Get it done KW! If you get rid of PODS, who is our lead off man moving forward? Mashers do not make a team complete, you need all aspects. PODS gives us the lead off man, and the running ability that you need to make a team pitch more defensively. Look at many of the teams that do not run at all. You are basically not putting as much pressure on the opposition, and are more prone to long offensive slumps.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I never said he sucks at using the pen, I think he's alright at how he used/uses his guys it's just annoying how he plays the percentages the majority of the time when the stats actually prove otherwise. Well, you agreed with RNW who inferred that Ozzie didnt know how to use his pen.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Since the day Ozzie got here he's been playing the matchups righty Vs right, lefty Vs lefty no matter what the stats say. Cotts has the ability to get righties out yet he tends to only face lefties. Riske is better against lefties than he is against righties and yet he'll probably prodominately face righies. Not really this year, mainly the past 2. Considering he had probably the best pen in baseball last year, I woud say he must have been good at using it. Also this year with only 1 or 2 reliable relievers, we are still up there as far as pens go. I would say those two things alone prove that Ozzie is good with the pen.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) BA had him at like #8 in the nation, IIRC. Yes, until they found out he was 4 years older than they thought.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) i wish pods used all fields instead of just trying to go strictly left field. You can check out his spray chart here: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/indivi...5392&statType=1 I wouldnt say he strictly goes to LF.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) Another panic move by Theo Epstein and the Red Sox. Great pick-up for the White Sox. The whole reason for making this deal in the first place was to add a southpaw to the bullpen, but what amazes me is that his entire career, Riske has been almost unhittable against lefties, infact he's been significantly better against left handed bats than he is against righties. For the White Sox' sake, hopefully Ozzie will use him right, and place him in the Thornton/Cotts role and use him only sparingly for full innings of work. Odds are that won't happen, afterall this is Ozzie Guillen we are talking about. Ahhh, couldnt find anything negative about the trade, so you had to try and take a pot shot at the way Ozzie uses his pen? Nice work.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I love Pods, but what is that guy doing this year? What happened to stealing bases? When was the last time he even tried? That was the WHOLE point of having him here. His batting is so-so and his fielding is barely the same. At least you know with Pablo that he's going 110% the whole time; Pods appears to be phoning it in. I know this is sacreligious, but seriously, it's about time somebody said it. Pods has been unremarkable in 2006. Well, he is tied for 3rd in the AL for SB, so I would say hes really doing that bad. He is in a slump lately, you have to get on base to steal a base. He will get hot again soon.

Its time for Freddy to put in a couple of solid starts and lower his ERA a bit.
