  1. QUOTE(Balance @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) From what I've heard Hawk and DJ say about Garland, much of his success last year came from his ability to pitch inside. Lately, I haven't seen him try to get people out inside. I wonder if Cooper agrees with Hawk and DJ. Last night he began to pitch inside a little more, which made me think he was gaining some confidence. Of course then when he went back to the outside corner, he wasnt getting the calls.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) I'm unimpressed with Garland and am quite frustrated with his performance thus far this year. Just wondering if you consider me to be a bandwagon jumper? Ah, I think you know what I think of you..... Its easy to get frustrated with any player who does not produce right out of the box. Especially after having a breakout year and a successful playoff run. Fact is, all signs point to him improving his performance. The guy is young, just figured himself out, and has succeeded over the course of a season and a playoff run. I thought he looked pretty good last night, he was painting the corners and not getting the calls, which led to 2 runs which prob wouldnt have happened otherwise. Im not going to bury him based on his start, and I feel that he will improve, just like BA will, just like Freddy has done, and just like many players have in the past few years.
  3. QUOTE(kevo880 @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) hey rock sorry i dont have 8,000 posts bro. i really wish this could be my life so i wouldnt be a bandwagon jumper oh yeah i was at a playoff game in 2000 and have gone to games frequently since i was a kid...you were almost right though apology accepted
  4. QUOTE(kevo880 @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) So just because other pichers are doing bad we shouldn't worry about Garland? Most of those pitchers on the list are establiched winners throughout their careers. GARLAND HAD ONE GOOD SEASON! He's proving right now he doesn't deserve his contract. You are proving to be a bandwagon jumper, congrats.
  5. Did anyone see what the guys in the clubhouse did to AJ's belt? They taped it up and wrote Barrett's belt, One punch Champ (TKO) on it and placed it on the big screen in the clubhouse.
  6. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 23, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) The thing I see about Thorton is that guys just try to put the ball in play against him like they do against Jenks. They give up crappy hits and can be dinked to death. I also think that other guys are more patient against Jenks and Thorton because they know they may have trouble catching up to the heat. I think Thorton and Jenks have better pitches than just the fastball but being a reliever they to do have the luxury to establish different pitches and find out what is working. They have to make good pitches from the get go. In the World Series extra inning game, Jenks was throwing a ton of sliders. In the 9th inning though you do not want to be beat on a slider if your fastball is a better pitch. Jenks got comfortable with the curve last night and made Crosby look like a fool. Both of these guys are converted front line starters with 3 major league pitches. Location is all they need to be a devastating duo. Slider, Curve, 12-6 curve was unhittable last night.
  7. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) he is 44th out of 50 starting pitchers in AL ERA (Qualified pitchers only) he is 95th out of 101 starting pitchers in MLB ERA (Qualified pitchers only) Unacceptable on every level, considering his salary. Blah blah blah. Seriously, come talk to me at the end of the season if this is stil the case. Other pitchers performing badly at this point. D Willis 5.12 ERA A Pettite 5.03 L Hernandez 5.51 R Johnson 5.62 S Elarton 4.71 J Lieber 5.81 E Bedard 5.08 J Marquis 5.08 J Bondermann-who everyone is calling an Ace now, 4.66 D Davis 5.14 J westbrook 4.98 j Blanton 6.24 M Morris 5.43 E Santana 5.02 P byrd 5.92 B Radke 7.20 King Felix 5.84 J Weaver 7.30 C Silva 8.44 M Clement 5.36 El Duque (NL) 6.11 O Perez 6.04 D Cabrera 5.23 G Chacin 5.31 B Chen 8.08 M Redman 6.88 O Perez LAD 6.97 on and on and on. I will bet on it that most of these pitchers will not have these numbers by the end of the season. And Jon's will improve too. Jump off the cliff all you want, you will look follish when you are trying to climb back up.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) Being perfectly serious, I think a guy like Wood would be a perfect project for Cooper, IF he were willing to listen AND to implement the changes. I think somewhere in time someone has told Wood how to fix his angles and it is obvious he hasn't listened. But I don't think the Sox would look at the guy with as injury prone and as expensive as he is and will be. When it comes to pitching, the Sox definately look for the guys who take the ball every 5 days. I agree, thats why it wouldnt ever happen. BUt given Coop's ability to make pitchers listen, and his obvious knowledge of mechanics, it would be a project that could suceed.
  9. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) 3-2, 6.12 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, .325 BAA. This is what I'm describing as utter crap. WTF would you call it? Last year has nothing to do with it. Beating three AAAA teams isn't something to laud him for.... I would much rather call your posts and topic utter crap before Garland. Without getting sqeezed last night, the score may have been much different. Come back at the end of the year, and if Garland has an ERA over 5 come talk to me.
  10. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) Sean Tracey the starter is miles ahead of Sean Tracey the middle reliever. They both would star in a walk-a-thon.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) Tonight it had more to do with Barry Zito being on the mound than anything else...Also Jon follows MB, FG, and the count, and more often than not its time to rest the regulars after several wins.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) I wouldn't call it utter crap. Is he near his performances from last year? No, not at this moment, but if you look around the league, he's doing just about average. I don't see a problem with that. Apparently these people forget how it was 2 years ago. Rauch, Munoz, Grilli, etc etc etc.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) Where would he play? Dont know. But you have to think that Coop would have been able to 1. Develop a better training program for both Prior and Wood so that they are at least ready to come back and play. 2.Be able to tweak his delivery a touch so that he is somewhat less prone to injury. I just feel that Rothchild has not helped the situation at all with those guys, and I wouldnt mind taking a chance on Wood. Of course it wouldnt happen in a million years.
  14. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:49 AM) Nitetrain, just because we have 4 other good starters does not mean we need to accept utter crap from our fifth starter, especially when we have another guy capable of starting in the bullpen and Garland has only put up good numbers in ONE year. Utter Crap? Wow you have a short memory.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) I'd rather see that than those Red Roof Inn commercials. If I was Red Roof Inn, I wouldnt purposefully show the s***ty small rooms and the small bathroom sink in the commerical. Bad marketing if you ask me. It makes me want to stay there much less.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) I was right behind the Sox dugout and right before the bunt, Macha was telling Swisher to watch for the bunt. You could see how Pablo was set up he wasn't going to be swinging. You're right, a truly positive game for the White Sox, except for another below par performance from Garland. I wouldnt say giving up 4 runs is below par. He struggled a little today, but for a fifth starter, I would say thats a pretty decent outing, especially after getting sqeezed by the ump for the first 3 innings.
  17. So, if the Knicks suck it up again next year, we get their first round pick again? Any chance to get Oden would be a blessing.
  18. Let this be a lesson to Indians fans. You dont boo a player who was such a big part of your organization. Chicago fans are classy.
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) So who actually called that bunt? Was it Ozzie? Pablo? Pablo did.
  20. im going to go out on a limb here. I want Coop to get a chance to fix Kerry Wood.
  21. I hope someone saved the broadcast of it. Dempster looks like an ass.
  22. He goes off on Mike North about misquoting him in the paper. Someone needs to link it or save it. Awesome
  23. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) Go Bucks! I am looking forward to this season. Some good matchups on the schedule. go bucks b****, you hittin any games?
  24. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 22, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) For future reference, throwing out veiled insults with poor spelling and grammar is counter-productive. For future reference, this is not a term paper, and I do not grammar check my posts on a message board. Secondly, it wasnt an insult, just an observation. If your goal is to make business decisions on a daily basis, im sorry that you thought I was getting down on you.
  25. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) He's on the way, and I hope Sean Tracey isn't far behind. Yeah, if you want to see some nice walks.
