  1. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) Mlb network rooting for yankees to get him big time Its easier to hedge your bets towards the biggest pockets. Hey if they overpay for this guy, so be it.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) When you say they haven't heard anything, does that mean Tanaka's people haven't actually negotiated with anyone? Just give us a single bid and we'll pick the highest one? Seems like an odd tactic. Or does this mean that all teams have gone back and forth and have basically reached their limit and now everybody's waiting? Im not privy to the back and forth but I know they havent heard a yes or a no. It would be quite obvious immediately.
  3. WE got about 6-8 in Oak Park. Shoveled my moms in DG, probably 3 inches.
  4. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) Man, sports media are really phoning it in on this one. We knew that FOREVER ago. I don't even think it was a secret. Clubs want their individual physicals with him, which is why the Wednesday date has been bandied around. Guessing, false info, the internet. Pick your poison. The Sox have heard jack s***, so I assume everyone else is in the same boat.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Very true. Irabu was at least serviceable until he ate and drank himself into severe depression. For those who don't know, he was brought over in '97 saying, "I will only play for the Yankees." Probably due to the fact that it was the most popular American team, at least at the time, in Japan. He never lived up to expectations, Steinbrenner and NY media crucified him, and he eventually became very depressed and killed himself. That has to be something that has at least crossed the minds of Tanaka's team. I am sure Tanaka watched it unfold as Irabu was probably a childhood hero of Tanaka. Of course I am speculating, but he was the man in Japanese baseball when Tanaka was growing up. Probably the biggest name aside from Hideki Matsui and Ichiro. Not a deciding factor but an arbitrary thought I'm sure. He was basically a 5th starter at best.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) Yeah, he had one really nice year. 18-3 2.90 ERA His WAR his first two years was pretty good, and then BOOM, body failed.
  7. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) If he is supposedly "a notch down from Dervish" then I would be perfectly ok if his stats looked like Iwakuma or Kuroda Except Darvish makes around 10 mil a year and this guy could make double.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) Darvish Iwakuma Kuroda Hideo Nomo Tomo Ohka had a couple good years but sucked more often than not. Then a glut of relievers Tazawa Uehara Hasegawa Kaz Sasaki Otsuka Saito The obvious failures are Dice-K, Igawa, Irabu. Dice-K could have been good if his body didnt fall apart.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) We've also lost 4 in a row. Reverse sig bet? Tempting but I am legitimately afraid of what you would make me post. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:19 AM) Loved watching him in high school had some huge games. No clue where his shot went. There were games he couldn't miss. Never thought he'd be this ineffective in college. They chose Smith over Jordan Sibert and Siebert transferred. Horrible move.
  10. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) Due to the curvature of the earth and the higher latitude, we're closer to Japan than we look EDIT: If you check it out on Google Earth, it's much more obvious. Stupid Mercator and his s****y projections! Thats f***ing crazy. I need a globe. Update from the Sox-still confident.
  11. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) He was comparing chicago to japan with LA to japan Right. So how is that possible? They go supersonic from chicago?
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:18 PM) Yes it was. And the flight is only 1.5 hours longer. In first class, that is nothing. It's only 1.5 hours from Chicago to LA?
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) Naw just one near a restaurant we were going to. It was fun and a good game. That country is so pumped for Olympic hockey. A Canadian guy I know was arguing with me for 10 min the other day before I figured out he was taking about Olympic rosters.
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) I know you're pissed, but let's cut the crazy s*** in here. The quicksand this team is in is ridiculous. It's no where near the same team it was a month ago. You'll see.
  15. Lenzelle should get in his car and drive back to ZB and never ever return.
  16. We will lose by 20. It's been years since an OSU team has been this s***ty.
  17. It's not a signature win if the team you beat sucks dick.
  18. Worst 4 game stretch in many of these guys careers. Terrible.
  19. Fourth game in a row trying to struggle out of quicksand.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 06:31 PM) Guy on ESPNU suspects Ross may leave for the NBA when talking about Russell next year. I LoL'd. He sure thinks he's going. He's a lazy f***. Loving is already better than him. Next years class is going to be a nice reset.
  21. It hurts watching this team right now. Laziness, no shooting ability. Sometimes early departures and transfers just make a class irrelevant.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) Again, how many Japanese pop stars are currently working in LA? As far as I can tell when looking through my Directv, there aren't any Japanese programs produced in the USA. She is going to do her work in Japan. If she supposedly prefers LA for her career, she is fooling herself. Its an easier flight home...
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) Play by play guy for Long Beach State Basketball. This is his opinion. "Sounds like"=I read it on twitter or a message board.
