  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) While I am happy we are expected to stay active, is anyone else worried they are downplaying the catcher position? I would rather go into the season with a potential long time starting catcher and Gillaspinger than what we have at catcher and an upgrade at 3B. If we had defensive catchers i would be ok. But since there is a lot of doubt about Phegleys ability I am a bit nervous.
  2. So people really think Santiago should have netted more than an mlb starting cfer and lead off man that is cost controlled for many years? Jeez.
  3. Dont forget, if you have a younger cost-effective core and you are close to competing, you now have the money to buy an impact arm or bat.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:26 PM) You're just twisting what I said, though. Abreu wasn't part of those deals. I never said we shouldnt trade those guys and save cash, just that we only recieved less than a meaningful prospect for each. He was though, and the Sox turned the saved money into what was basically a blockbuster FA deal for the Sox. Not only that but they have a cost-controlled core for almost 5 more years. Thats incredible.
  5. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) It's more like Jake Peavy, Alex Rios, Matt Thorton and Hector Santiago for Leury Garcia, Avisail Garcia, and Adam Eaton plus a ton of cash. We used the ton of cash and signed Abreu. Exactly, but dont let facts get in the way of b****ing.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) It's more like Jake Peavy, Alex Rios, Matt Thorton and Hector Santiago for Leury Garcia, Avisail Garcia, and Adam Eaton. I'm actually surprised this board is cool with that. Usually this board loves to preach the failure rate of prospects yet we traded 4 established MLBers (only one who needed to go) for 3 prospects, 2 of them very key to our future. I'd figure everyone here would prefer decent packages. If one of Garcia or Eaton fails we will be in big big trouble and odds are that probably happens unfortunately. Why is it more like that? WE saved a ton of money allowing us to sign the best foreign bat on the market. We've started to try and build a young core that will help contend for years to come. I am guessing not many people are against that whatsoever.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) There is also talk that he's a young Lenny Dykstra, yet you seem to be avoiding those. The fact is we don't know what we have in him yet. Opinions are mixed all across the board. I'm happy they've made this sort of move to at least attempt to improve the team. Also, Brandon Jacobs hit .237/.291/.327/.618 in 176 plate appearances with the Barons, striking out 50 times in 176 PAs. For his minor league career, he's at .262/.335/.434/.769 with a 25.4% K-rate. Calling him a meaningful prospect is like calling Ryan Meaux a meaningful prospect. He's a solid C- with some upside.
  8. Jacobs doesnt sound right, PTBL or cash and its jacobs? Wow, I wouldnt have guessed him
  9. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) The cold cut combo doesn’t and has never had salami on it. It has turkey salami, but for sure that doesnt count.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) My point was that if it had been Sale, it would have been a whole lot more than Eaton. So much that the Dbacks wouldn't be able to pay for anything else like Trumbo. Hahn probably had to mute the phone to laugh when they asked for Sale.
  11. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Gammons said this guy was a ROY lock before his injury last year. Sox were looking for a CF'er and got him. Now 3B and C. I still dont think they are going to do anything with Catcher, I think two more vet bats in the MI and maybe 3B
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Because many wanted us to rebuild like them. Right now on paper we are doing a better job.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) So he's getting fired, then? Apparently.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) I don't know what people are smoking. Eaton has an incredibly high ceiling, and the only reason he's getting dealt is because of his injury-riddled 2013. This is going to wind up being a steal - like Carlos Quentin 2.0 in terms of "holy s*** why'd they do this?" Hopefully he has more staying power, though. Its Soxtalk, where we want to make a deal and then have immediate buyer's remorse because our players are so much better than what we got back.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 8m White Sox's addition of Adam Eaton opens door to trading Alejandro De Aza, who could fit with @Orioles and @SFGiants , among others. Let me guess, our return will be a lower level minor league pitcher?
  16. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Wasn't a good part of Brian Anderson's benching a result of frequently overthrowing the cut-off man and throwing to the wrong base? I seem to remember him doing that a lot & actually that was my first thought watching him make that throw to first. That play could easily go very wrong and end in a few dadgummits. He's making another comeback so maybe we'll see it again some day.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) It'd be impossible to argue otherwise. LOL, not really.
  18. QUOTE (bulokis @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) It looks like it. I feel like we sold low on Hector but hopefully Hahn has more in mind. I couldnt disagree more.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) Our rotation is certainly below average now. We better hope we don't trade another SP. Because we traded Santiago? Hardly.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) I'm interested to see what shoe drops next. Infield. I am not sure we deal another SP at this point, so free agent possibly?
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) Eaton, Avasail, Abreu... hopefully three guys that will be part of the solution. Looking forward to watching some new blood for a full season. Sox trying to build a "young core" including pitching. Getting there.
  22. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) I like Eaton for Santiago straight up. What is Arizona thinking? Trumbo is Adam Dunn. They could have gotten him from us for a lot less. Yes. Santiago was by far the SP I would have wanted to deal. Fantastic.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) Because you still have to be accurate and you can shoot something 400+ yards out. Bow+knife
  24. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) I had one like 3 times this week before I realized it had bologna on it. But still $2 for a 6-inch is a preeeeety good deal. I graduate in 5 days, so I really don't want to have to go grocery shopping again. Its now turkey salami and turkey ham as well. I swear it used to have actual salami in it. Back to the spicy italian for me. 2 dollar meatball is the steal of the century IMO.
