QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) I got no problem trading Santiago for Eaton straight across. Me either, at all. Santiago was a borderline SP to me. -

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) Hey Rock, you Hearing any other whispers out there other than this, or abouth this? Vet MI, and an OF bat was always the course. Dealing SP to acquire was definitely something that was going to happen. I dont see them modifying the pen much if at all. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) +10000000000000000000000 Cutler and Peavy were the "OMG it's finally going to happen!" trades. Both huge f***ing disappointments. Peavy's freak injury definitely was something we couldnt forsee however both of the teams put around those acquisitions were horrendous at best.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) I do like how the argument of Cutler apologists is to attack McCown. How does McCown being bad/good/indifferent have anything to do with whether Cutler (or any player) is worth $15mil per season? Especially given how many injuries there are in football. Stop using the term apologist, its condescending and frankly stupid. So to your actual point, unless you present a viable replacement option its Cutler vs whats currently at the QB position with the Bears, thats why that comparison is being made. Also its 15 mil for ONE season.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) I've always been a big fan of Cutler. I think I may just be a bigger fan of Trestman Even the really really stupid "body language" debate of Cutler is gone with how much more it seems he is engaged with this team, the coach and the offensive playcalls. I really get the impression that Trestman appeals to QB's, which is key in today's NFL.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) I'm trying to figure out why people think Hector is a SP. We better hope other teams do because we are trading one of our SP's at some point and frankly if its him im not upset whatsoever. -
At least this Cutler argument has evolved past his facial expressions on the sidelines to actual production.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) The audible McCown called when he told Forte to block the blitzing weak side linebacker was a nice read. And who knows if that particular protection call was in place 5 weeks ago.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:58 AM) Lol. Wow. That's an awesome comparison to this situation. 2013 Cutler and 2008 Brady had equal careers. Pretty sure he was comparing Cassel and McCown there.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) Nobody is signing him to anything. This season proves that the system works and works well. The play calling and OL design help to protect the quarterback and lead to QB numbers that can be impressive. The question is, what is Jay Cutler worth. Can Matt Schaub work in this system? Is there a draftee that can work in this system? Those are the organizational decisions. is there a guy that can be plugged in that can get you what Jay gets you. Jay is not young so epic turnarounds in how he manages a team is not happening. Cutler is worth 1 year as a franchise player and if you draft or bring in a young guy in the meantime, more power to you. I need to see Cutler in this system for at least one more year.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:53 AM) And im saying to pay McCown $2-3mil. Remember, this isnt about McCown. This is about why cutler isnt worth $15mil per season. And so far no one wants to address that. They just want to make asinine comparisons to Tom Brady (117 qb rating). LOLWhat? Several people in this thread has said yes pay him. Less Risk, Higher upside. Its a NO BRAINER. unless you have a better QB option, tell me. Otherwise its McCown vs Cutler and its not even a debate IMO.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) Except in 2103 when it will be over 100. Right what an improvement, which is why I would like to see what this system can do with a QB with much more upside.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) Not true at all. I just dont think Cutler is a great fit for this system. If the Bears had Drew Brees we wouldnt be having this discussion. Jay Cutler has never had a season with a QB rating over 90. You guys are just hyping him beyond belief because of his "big arm". And prior to this year his best statistical season came in 2007. Who are you crapping? McCown has never had a season with a QB rating over 74.9 So great point.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) Um, this one? Also, can McCown make 30-40 yard passes? Yes. See the Jeffrey catch last night. But that still makes no sense when looking at it on a game by game basis. In the middle of the Washington game McCown came in with the same offense and played immensely better than Cutler. Same thing in the Lions game. Also, at some point you have to acknowledge that the guy with the ball calling plays for the last 7-8 games (when the entire offense got better) has some role in the offense getting better. I see a guy who is in more control of the offense, calls better audibles, makes better decisions with the ball, etc. Cutler wasnt good while hurt. Good point. Its pretty obvious you are stuck on McCown coming into his own as a QB this year. I just would rather go with the safer bet with the better upside. To each his own.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) But you are right, lets give Cutler a blank check, because what if he is good. What I find funny is that people are making excuses for a guy who is going to want $100mil + at age 31 with stats that are worse than a journeyman. And you guys are just lining up to pay him. Its not a blank check, its a set amount of money. And yes, I would pay a franchise QB to play in this system, 100% of the time.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) Because those two plays were really dumb decisions/bad throws that don't show up on the stat sheet. That the DB's happened to drop the ball doesn't make those decisions any better, so if we're talking about a player being "smart" with the ball, that needs to be taken into consideration. If those two balls are picked, which they easily could have been, there's not so much ridiculous talk about dumping Cutler and sticking with a journeyman QB who was out of the NFL. I'll laugh at whoever signs Josh McCown as their starter in the offseason, and if its the Bears i'll laugh in shame.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) What system doesn't have deep passes as an important play or at least important to be a credible threat? You're not following. The entire offense didn't have time to adjust to the new system. The entire rest of the offense has kept playing, even with Cutler down. Everyone else on the field is more experienced in that offense. The two rookie linemen have gained immensely valuable experience. Alshon Jeffrey has gone from being a pretty good developing WR2 to a highlight reel machine. That's all really independent of Cutler or McCown personally having experience with the system. McCown has performed pretty well so far. "Immensely" better? No, not really, and he's not putting up any more points than Cutler was. You are basing your second point on people watching more than the QB. The blocking schemes they are using now including with Forte are incredibly different than what was in place earlier in the season. The routes they are running and the audibles that are available are MUCH better and I dont think Josh McCown has anything to do with either.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) It doesnt matter what other teams do. People are wrong and sometimes systems matter. The second McCown came in weeks ago, you could see that there was a different vibe with the Bears offense. It was crisper, plays were being called smoother and audibles were much better. Did you know that McCowns worst rating 90.7 is better than Cutlers worst rating 65.6 And McCowns best rating 141.9 is better than Cutlers best rating 128.1 McCown has had a rating above 100 in 5 games. Cutler has had a rating above 100 in 2 games. So maybe Cutler will be better, maybe McCown will be bad. But the stats right now seem to suggest that McCown is better, and unless Jay wants a salary comparable to McCown im not sure how you take a $10mil+ risk. Based on Jay having the first few games and McCown coming in against mostly cupcakes? No thanks, I dont buy it. I think its funny that we finally have a system for our franchise level QB and now people are clamoring for the backup. who by all accounts was out of football a year ago.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) And once Mariano's moved in, that Dominick's took a ridiculous hit. We do most grocery shopping at Jewel, use the Mariano's for quick stuff/sometimes hot bar and mainly the bigger beer selection. That Marianos started out awesome, now with all the others opening you'll see the quality and availability of the produce as gone down hill and they jacked up the prices on most items. I compared two receipts within months of each other and it was funny how much they raised prices.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) It is hard to reconcile the fact that I don't believe Cutler has ever had a 6 game run like this -- certainly nothing even close while he's been a Bear. Either has McCown.
