  1. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) You have Russell's yet? Tasty tasty. Yeah, its pretty good. I went overboard and got two beef sand's which was too much. It's certainly a strange place.
  2. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) BTW, if you are heading through a Mexican neighborhood a good Torta shop is good eats. Cemitas Puebla 3619 W North Ave Chicago, IL 60647 (773) 772-8435 cemitaspuebla.com You'll thank me.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/201...s-for-20-years# Smart, especially whats happening in that nieghborhood/block in the next several years. Good to keep your name out there.
  4. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Schmaltz is the best. It's in the shopping center where I work so I eat there pretty much twice a week at least. Haven't had anything I didn't like and so many choices. Just had it. Wow that place has grown. Forgot how great the food and service is. They also gave us all cookies, wow those were good. Long drive but well worth it.
  5. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 11:05 AM) You thinking he is gone before the end of the winter meetings? Yep. And I think we will get a single A prospect or so.
  6. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) I can vouch for this, it's well worth it. Vinnie's on grand across from salernos (also the best) has the GREATEST tuna salad sub. Its a little sleeper place.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) I think the dying out of the industry is a direct result of the popularity of the subways/jimmy johns/potbellies/Jersey Mikes. You go to those privately owned delis and their stuff is awesome, but their prices usually cant beat a $5 footlong. There is a place in McHenry called Epic Deli that is supposed to be awesome. A coworker friend lives in McHenry and goes there at least twice a week The only surviving ones are the places that are out of this world for one reason or another or have generations of customers. Alpine Subs here in Elmwood Park just makes an unreal sandwich because of their homemade items and fresh bread. You get a "taste" for their sandwiches. On the flip side there are potbelly's type places like Rammy's where you could easily get their exact product at Potbelly's so they died.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Next time I am over there I will have to check it out. Your first time its a little awkward because its an old italian deli and you order and then pay later, but its freaking unreal. Thats it, im going out to Schmaltz, need a corned beef fix.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) Finkle's was my spot. Where is Grazianos? That doesn't ring a bell. Halsted is meh for sure. http://www.jpgraziano.com/ Get the Mr G Sharp imported provolone, hot sopresatta, Prosciutto di Parma, Volpi genoa salami, truffle mustard balsamic vinaigrette, hot oil, marinated roman-style artichokes, fresh basil, lettuce w/ red wine vinegar & oregano … $8.25 Or their tuna and italian are great. They make the tuna right in front of you so you can dictate how much mayo etc you want in it. Great italian deli. Im literally debating whether to drive downtown or naperville at this point for some deli.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) Oh i'm sure. But Subway still sucks, at least the one closest to my office. If you get the bread toasted it's like eating stale bread. Half the veggies aren't quite ripe. And I swear I end up s***ting my brains out 4-5 hours after eating there, which makes me question how sanitary the place is. +1 on the regular old style deli's. There are a few in the west loop, but they're pricey and "commercial." Mom and pop shops just can't compete with the pricing of the larger chains unfortunately. I have 2 new Mediterranean Chipotle clones around my building that opened within the last year and a half (Nesh! and Mezza, both excellent, along with Roti). I've been hitting up those more than the sandwich shops. Sounds like that one in particular, they vary so much from franchise to franchise. The one by my new place I LOVE but they also have different veggies than some others, and completely different pickles In the west loop, Grazianos cannot be beat, also on grand I LOVE Vinnie's tuna salad, the best I've ever had. That halsted st deli closer to downtown is the largest piece of crap rip off. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:08 AM) I agree. There used to be the best place down the block from the CBOT. I've been lost since that place closed down. That marquette inn used to be my spot, also the place by Perrys when i didnt want 2 lbs of sandwich.
  11. So true in all aspects. Once OSU moved the students down to the floor and especially across from the cameras it completely changed the atmosphere.
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) De Aza is a left handed bat. I'm not sure why people are so quick to axe him. He can be the fourth OF or PH. $$
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Dumb Q but why doesn't Illinois just throw a load of cash at Saban and see what happens? Nevermind. LOL.
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) You'll get this. I freely admit that pass would have jumped off my stick on the backhand. I may catch that Keith pass 1/10 times. It's one of those things that unless you've tried to do that, you can't appreciate how hard that is. Similar to a nice saucer pass landing where it needs to, catching one in your skate to your feet while skating etc. Those are the best things to watch, and the hardest things to do, but I think the casual fan takes it for granted. They just see a pass was completed and it was a goal. I live for those little things. While keeping his balance and spinning past the defender. It was a thing of beauty.
  15. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 07:19 AM) Yes, he's climbing very quickly. His upside through the roof. Showed up to IU at 6'8", and now looks to be a legit 6"10". That's whats really making the difference, along with his motor. Not to metion it looks like he put on about 30 lbs of muscle in a matter of months. If he stick around, Indiana's a title contender. Unfortunately for IU, I don't think he does. I dont think you stay if you are a top ten pick. Sometimes it just works that way with one and done's. Those core guys that stay 3-4 years are still underrated in the college game.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Very solid place. Honestly give me a real f'ing deli as opposed to any of that garbage. Seems to be a dying industry for some reason. I am not sure why the jewish deli kind of died away in chicago as well. IN the west loop I had alot of choices for italian delis, but I suspect even those are being forced out at some point. Its depressing. Here in Oak Park we only have Alpine, which is awesome, but I wouldnt mind another real deli.
  17. Viciedo would be the definition of selling low, and we all know how sensitive Soxtalk is to that.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) I actually like Jersey Mikes. One right by my new place that I frequent. me too, love the fresh cut deli meats. The one I used to go to in DG closed but I found a fantastic middle eastern place right by.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) Subway is gross. Potbelly or Jimmy Johns is 1000 times better. Its (jimmy johns) also a 1000 times worse for you. Subway nails it if you want to have a healthy lunch.
  20. You are right. You don't get it. Eaton is a good return for a position of need.
  21. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) NO! I want him to just stay one more year. Pretty please. Just want to see what he can do with the same team he has now + James Blackmon stretching the floor. Exactly. Luckily for everyone else he's a one and done before you are a real dangerous team. Sometimes timing works that way
  22. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) One way or another, no way Mack Brown is coaching that team next year. Texas has been out of the national title picture for too long. Pretty much since Vince Young left, right? He's out. The question is are the rumblings about Saban true?
  23. Saw Vonleh projected as a top ten pick. Good. Get him out of here.
