  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) We'll see in the winter. Why wait, its pretty easy to use reason. True/False With bad Free Agent classes, players generally get contracts that are more than what they are worth because of less supply. True/False The economic situation wont be as dire this winter than last when teams didnt know what to predict True/False Good defensive Cf'ers with a plus bat make more than 10 million a season on the open market
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) The White Sox assumed the contract THIS year. That's why THIS year's economic climate is relevant. And in THIS coming offseason, his contract would have been on par with what he would have been paid, especially with the weak class. I'd like to see an example of what contract you think he would get right now, since I've already thrown out 2 players that are comparable with worse contracts.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Next offseason will be the same or worse. Probably worse as the FA class is pretty weak. Even the Yankees are making teams eat money. Which means worst players will be getting paid even more than what they are worth, and you are saying the economy is going to be worse than last year? I doubt it since teams were mostly cutting costs trying to PREDICT what would happen with their fan base and the economy, and at this point its pretty clear we have seen the bottom and attendance is not as bad as originally thought.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) My beef? I have no beef. I just don't think he's the savior everyone here thinks he is. He's a nice player, not a $60 million player. Who said he was a savior? Please quote that post, cause I havent seen it. And yes, on the open market, not in last offseason, he IS a 60 million player, no question. Aaron Rowand 5 years 60 million signed as a 30 year old career stats .282 .341 .793 Torii Hunter 5 years 90 million signed as 32 year old .274 .329 .802 Alex Rios 5 years 60 million signed as 27 year old career stats .285 .335 .786
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) I'm not wrong. I'm asking a hypothetical question because the Sox just picked him up for nothing. Rios was given this contract in a different economic time. And in the next offseason it will be a different economic time than this one. Whats the point? This offseason was an outlier?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) Ibanez got 3 years $31 million. In fact, Manny and Texiera were the only non pitchers to get more than $31 million. Rios is owed $60 million. He's got himself a good deal. He's not the hitter Ibanez is. just get to the point and state your beef with Rios. You are bringing up players that arent even closely related to what Rios is just to prove a point, I am just not sure what your point actually is. Rios's contract should be compared with Rowand and Hunter, not over the hill corner OF'er/DH's on their last legs in a recession.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Does this make Jor Danks trade bait this offseason? He's at least 2 years away, and him or Rios could slide into a corner spot. Mitchell is probably 3 years away.
  8. I think we just got a market value CF'er for basically nothing but a contract. Torii Hunter-lite somewhat, but entering his prime. Great pickup.
  9. QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) What a great time! Rock's seats are f***ing GREAT - I highly recommend people grab a game if you can! I was walking the concourse when Thome sent that ball into orbit - damn, what a blast! Thanks dude, Im glad you brought us a winner. That means you can have more games from me and stay off the ignore list.
  10. Contreras has a small mechanical issue with his shoulders staying square and pulling his hip. Some pen sessions with Coop and a little video and he will be fine. I love how players can just "lose it" and never be good again. DO you realize how hard it is for these guys to repeat their delivery over and over from start to start?
  11. its good for you and your man parts to do it frequently.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Little kids on their own bikes, I don't actually know if the law is different, but they should probably be on sidewalks or paths when they are learning. Adults with carriers are adults, and should be on the street. They are too heavy and go too fast to be on the sidewalks. They are safer on the street. But me personally, I would never ride with a kid in the city, street OR sidewalk. Its is illegal for adults to ride their bikes on the sidewalks, this does not apply to children.
  13. Jenks should not be traded, it would be an extremely dumb move at this juncture. Webb should be a target of the Sox in the offseason, but I really think we will be targeting a bat with our money and not an arm as I think the club thinks we can fill that need from within.
  14. Peavy would get a Sabathia/Zito contract if on the free market, therefor he is signed below market value for us. Nice try and making a controversial article though.
  15. I really hate the YES network. This is going to be lopsided.
  16. http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/media/video...464&c_id=sd peavy strikes out 10
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Cubs fans saying he's washed up and his best years are behind him... I'm sure that's what they'd be saying if they got him! Maybe they were talking about Zambrano.
  18. QUOTE (League @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) Free Agents. One who is guaranteed to not be offered arbitration.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) I hope Torres can hold that 5 spot down for years. That top 4 is awesome. I think Hudson is up late next year or the year after that.
  20. So....There goes some of the money we have after this season. I think this may mean the departure of Thome for sure.
  21. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) So, will Torres take the 5th spot while Colon is on the DL? Also would have liked to see us grab a lefty reliever. I don't think we can count on Randy Williams for the long run. I would like Torres to get the first shot for sure, he showed he has the know-how and the stuff to pitch in the bigs. I am guessing that mgmt feel decently comfortable with freddy's progress which makes me want to puke.
  22. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) Cant believe Toronto wouldnt take 4 pitchers, 2 leftys , for Halladay-but now they are out of the league No idea. Our package isnt good enough to land Halladay since he's better than Peavy, but put a decent spect in there and its a pretty good haul. Not great, but good for an arm that you are going to lose anyway.
  23. So, I got the team right that was calling us, but not the players involved. Minor mistake.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Excellent timing for Richard. Poreda looks like a LOOGY to me. Its a freaking steal if Peavy is Peavy the rest of the contract. I agree with you on all fronts. Carter may be the biggest loss, and Richard could end up being a back of the rotation guy, but Peavy trumps all of that. Poreda must not have hurt his value too much with his poor control in the majors.
