QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Happy birthday, TheBigHurt. Very solid start by Torres. And you just saw our eventual new closer tonight. Trade Jenks while you can still get a pretty good haul for him because we have his replacement already. Pfff. Thornton is being anointed our new closer? Matt is a great lefty out of the pen and all, but the kid has 2 pitches and gets hit HARD at times since his fastball doesnt move much. I have MUCH more confidence in Jenks being the closer than Thornton, and its not even close.

I would certainly be upset and dropping f-bombs at the park during that debacle, but I would NEVER boo Bobby because he blew a save.
-
I always thought he didnt based on the giant nutcup he had to wear to cover his package.

You, like many GM's have in the past, are very much under the Javy spell. He's done this before, and fooled many a team in contention. NL+no pressure=Javy dominance.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) I seem to have hit a plateau in my goal of losing 60 lbs and getting down to 170 lbs. Its been about 3 1/2 months and I've lost 50 lbs to make it down to 180 but I know there is more weight to lose and as of this week the weight loss has stopped. I still eat about 2000 calories and work out every day and I guess my body has finally gotten used to that. Any suggestions on what I should do? What is your weekly workout schedule/routine look like? Are you just measuring weight or actually taking body and body fat percentage measurements? Did you take pictures of when you started and progressively as you went?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) I think Kenny is invested on trading virtually every single prospect we have in our system for players he has long coveted, especially those who have at one time had success in the AFL. Once a prospect gets here however, Kenny will say that he was protecting said player and wouldn't have moved him unless he had gotten a significant package in return. What prospect has he traded that you want back? So far the younger players he has traded for GOOD major league talent have all been underwhelming for the most part. Thats just good GM-ing, selling high for proven talent. Its clear our system is now starting to produce good players that can actually perform at the major league level, which is why he is invested in keeping said players.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) You don't think Poreda could have been a second lefty option in the pen? Or at least a lefty specialist? I do. I think Ozzie had gotten to the point where he could have ramped up his usage of Poreda, but instead he threw him into a tough situation after having not pitched in a while. Usually Ozzie lets his guys fail a ton before demoting them, but Poreda is a different case (see Boone Logan). Also, when Thornton got here he was used in a similar way and like Poreda, he basically only used his fastball. I hope Ozzie is sending Poreda down simply because of a numbers game and the uncertainty at the back of the rotation. There are now 3 guys (Richard, Colon, Torres) in the picture, with Harrell also in Charlotte, Garcia on a rehab assignment, and both Whisler and Egbert having gotten a cup of coffee. So really that's 7 options right there, and I'd actually be surprised if Poreda is down for any other reason. Since when is it the managers fault that a player cannot throw strikes? Players need to have the ability to play to stick in the major leagues and Aaron showed he isnt ready yet. Ozzie handled him very gently at first and threw him into what, ONE pressure situation? Its Poreda's responsibility to be able to pitch, and if he cant, he needs to be sent down, end of story. When something goes wrong for a player, its not the manager's fault, its the player's fault. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Expound. And SHIPPS, you got into my head. I had to go get a breaded steak from them for lunch. Far east massaging techniques are practiced there.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Why haven't people caught on to the reason? The Sox take speed off of their pitchers to get them into a repeatable arm slot that still preserves their movement on their pitchers. It is why every single pitcher we get loses velocity here, and regains it elsewhere. It also seems to do wonders to prevent injuries, because when was the last Tommy John or shoulder surgery you remember a Sox major league pitcher getting? we pretty much ruined Freddy Garcia's career.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Rock I will buy them from you for $401 right now..final offer... I may consider that offer since they are black dots, and I went to the club fitter and found out I may be a yellow dot fit with a longer shaft.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Thats a steal. Well done. New or used? Slightly used.

QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) Fields was impressive with 3 strikeouts. Can we trade him for a bundle of bats? The last guy that happened to killed himself. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) I've actually known about this for months. You should've just asked, SHIPPS. Me too, I am a regular at xindy's nearby........

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) Poreda sent down. Torres on his way. Per Mark Gonzalez. Good, it was clear that AP was not ready for the majors. He has zero command of any of his pitches and needs to continue to work out as a starter. Also, what the hell happened to his velocity when he came up? He was throwing 90-91 most of the time which isnt exactly what has made him as good as he has been in the minors.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned the obviously differences in TCQ's batting stance and approach. His stance and the way he is holding the bat and his upper body has turned very Pujols-like

I use Muscle Milk most of the time, and sometimes put in some PURE protein as well. I use MM for really 2 reasons: 1. Its delicious 2. It seems to work and is pretty reputable. In the past their formula had much too high of sugar content, but they have lowered it a bit in the present. If that concerns you, they have MM light which is also delicious.

Just upgraded my 13 year old irons with some Ping G10's I got on ebay for 400 bucks, nice deal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) If that were the case, Halladay would be on the next plane to LAX. That has to be what Toronto is asking for. The Jays have all sorts of people leaking these "rumors" to the media. They are hoping someone gets desperate and offers more. Im not sure I would trade Weaver straight up for Halladay. He's shown consistent improvement in BAA and WHIP in the last 3 seasons and he's a better long term bet IMO. Especially considering Halladay is a short term fix.
-
I dont think KW is going to mortgage the farm they have built for this org just for a year and a half of Halladay. That is the Jays office trying to drive the price up since the only teams that are offering anything of interest have been in the AL east.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) Ha, you scared the s*** out of me for a second. I don't expect the clubs to make me a PGA Tour player, but I expect them to shave a few strokes off my scores most definitely. Didn't know Harborside had the lower fee later in the day. I have to admit, being a college kid, $82 turned me off a bit. $57 is managable in the summer, so I'll definitely be hitting that up soon. Which of the 2 courses would you suggest? I'd say the biggest improvement someone would get from new irons would be less off center hits if you are trying out the newer larger cavitiy back clubs. As for Woods-I see more people hurt their score than improve it when they upgrade every few years. For Harborside, both courses are AWESOME and hard. Port is the more difficult, but I really like the character of starboard, to be honest, there isnt a better course for the money in Chicago than Harborside twilight.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) Rock, how much are you improving? How about updating your progress? I've started the program over again after I injured my shoulder and had to take 2 weeks off. I've still had good results, lowered my body fat and reduced my waist size by 2+ inches. You also become freakishly strong in weird ways. For example, how many people do pull ups on a regular basis? Not many because its a difficult exercise and its kind of embarrassing. Well after several days of doing 120+ pull ups, chin ups etc, I can pretty much knock out 50 in a row of varying hand placements.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I wonder if the hype around Nunez is warranted, or if he's another Nick Massett. The Nick Massett who owns a 2.29 ERA and .91 WHIP this year with only 1 HR given up in a hitters park? After we traded him he put up a 2.08 ERA as well in 2008. He wasnt all hype.
