I think resigning Khabby is going to be a huge mistake.

Look at how downhill his fastball was in Cle last night. When he was pitching terribly his chest was way out in front of his arm which caused the ball to stay up and killed his command on really any pitch.

Dye staying on this team this year and next year is probably worth more than you would get in a trade for a half season of him to be honest. He is also our best player, and doesnt look to be slowing down.

Fields apparently only plays against lefties and when Becks needs a break. I really like the changes i've seen in his swing and I wanted to see him get more at-bats.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) When the story broke I couldn't help but think of Kurt Cobain, and Marilyn Monroe. I mean, his legacy would have been so different if he had died 17 years ago. Michael was dead to me 10 years ago anyway.

QUOTE (Drew @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 01:35 AM) I haven't lived in Chicago going on 5 years, although I do make it back to visit for Christmas and sometimes for a Sox homestand. My favorite places I used to visit all the time, unsure of which are still around. Breakfast: The Bongo Room, Honore/Milwaukee. Yes, this is the High Fidelity corner and my favorite brunch spot in town. Clarke's, Lincoln/Halsted or Clark/Belmont. Open around the clock, good diner food—particularly pancakes. Ann Sather, Belmont west of Clark (iirc). Also another outpost in Andersonville. Chicago institution, famous for their Cinnamon rolls. Lunch: Manny's Deli. Best Jewish deli in town. Star of Siam, State/Illinois. Food on par with Thai Star a few blocks away but a better venue. Mr. Beef, Erie/Orleans. Divey place full of celebrity heads on the walls. Jay Leno's favorite place for Beef. If you've got kids, Ed Debevic's on Wells/Ontario or Portillo's is a good bet. Dinner: Pizzeria Uno or Due, Ohio/Wabash. Same menu, ingredients, ownership—go where there's the shortest wait unless you're a purist and want to see the birthplace of the Chicago pizza. In which case, wait for Uno. Kamehachi on Schiller/Wells. Stellar sushi, always a good bet. Pontiac Cafe on Damen/Milwaukee. Piece on North/Milwaukee. Good pizza and brews. Duke of Perth, Clark north of Diversey. Fish and chips, great English/Scottish beer selection and Scotch list the best in the city. Wednesday and Friday nights are all you can eat fish and chips, or at least used to be. Adobo Grill, Honore/Milwaukee. Very tasty upscale Mexican food and unbeatable Tequila list. Late night: Rainbo Room, Damen south of Division (iirc). Divey with High Life bottles and full of hipster girls. Yes, I think this is a selling point. Delilah's, Lincoln near Diversey (iirc). Dive often with good live music. Wieners Circle, Clark/Wrightwood. I used to live a couple of blocks from this place, and now that the original Gold Coast Dogs is gone, this is the pre-emptive Chicago 'Dog. It's been featured on Insomniac a couple of times. Not for the faint of heart. Zaiqa, Orleans/Chestnut. Pakistani cafeteria, best value in town. The cabbie hangout on the north side. This is an...adventure. I'd like to correct a few of of those but I realize that everyone has their opinion. Al's on Taylor is the best beef IMO, but everyone differs Zapatista on wabash is also a good upscale mex Coalfire on grand is a good pizza place for thin crust and Salernos on grand is the king of pizza. As for Dive's I would go with Richards, for Music, underground Wunderbar

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) So, Chad Billingsley hadn't given up more than 3 ER in a start all year. Gave up 5. Randy Wells hasn't given up more than 2 ER in a start this year... I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...YOU! WHITE! SOX! Dont forget Cueto, the NL ERA leader.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Some observations about Mitchell: - he's not nearly as much of a slap hitter as I had feared. He has a compact swing and gets good lift on the ball. - his contact rate was pretty good. With all of his strike outs, I thought he'd be a free swinger who couldn't recognize offspeed pitches. He must have K'd looking an awful lot. - didn't see enough of his defense to make any judgments. - he has a swagger to him that you love to see. I guarantee that if he was picked by someone else, there would have been people on here wishing we would have picked him. - the last two years of the CWS have been awesome for us Sox fans. Basically the two biggest stars of the past two years have been Beckham and Mitchell. I'd like to add to that. His power to left and left center is big time. But his pull hitting needs some mechanical work. His eye for the strike zone is pretty developed for a part time baseball player. His speed is beyond game changing, he is one of those players we hate to face. His defense in the corners is good, but I dont think he will ever be a CF'er which is ok if he develops good enough power for the corners. Also pretty much every announcer, expert, player, coach seems to think the kid is ridiculous, which is nice to see.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) A young player/ rookie is expected to make physical mistakes. The mistakes Alexei's making are mental/ not giving full effort, and may not be correctable by him "learning" anything. It may be low baseball IQ, or IQ in general. I disagree on this entirely. We even had Beckham come out and say that the hardest part was the mental aspect, knowing where to be, the situation etc. Give the guy a full season and see what happens, Alexei has the ability to be an above avg to great defender at SS.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) He's 27 and all those years in Cuba playing SS don't count? I'm starting to realize why Alexei got moved from SS to the OF in Cuba. All those years? IIRC he didnt play SS that much in Cuba.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Richard just goes into brainfart mode, Once a game he just does something stupid like trying to throw the ball to first and just ruins the inning from then on. I think Poreda is going to get his chance if Richard cant get over the hump. Richard just doesnt have the command and stuff at this point to be a consistent starting pitcher. I think its about time to put him as the swing man in the pen. I'd actually rather see DJ start a game or two at this point.
-
QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) I expect him to move to 2B and have Bacon at SS in 2010 Not a chance, Alexei will be a much better SS than Beckham would be able to. Alexei is a rookie at the position and is still learning, give him time.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) You have to wonder where Mitchell would be picked if the draft was this week? He seems to be impressing a lot of people. Most outstanding player of the College World Series, nuff said.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) Mainly odds, but I'm not a huge fan of his game as well. I'm not saying he'll bust, but I'll be ecstatic if he turns into a .300 hitter. His game meaning a very raw college 2-sport athlete with not much experience in the game, or the guy you watched one game of and then correlated it with fairly meaningless college stats?

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) I'd like to live in Chicago if it wasn't so expensive. I just saw this post and would like to comment on it. The cost of living in Chicago is VERY dependent on where you live. You can easily live in a suburb outside of the city, but the taxes are high in many areas and most of the "popular" towns property values are extremely high. For me living downtown, my taxes arent all that bad, but the cost of living is ridiculous. From my utilities to just the sales tax and cost of food, my expenses just to live are thousands of dollars a month. Couple in the highest gas prices in the country and all of the tolls/parking/permits/tickets and just getting from place to place can empty your wallet.

I've traveled all over the west and west coast and its ok, but I really want to try and move somewhere on the east coast like NC/SC/Virginia. I'd love to live in DC or Baltimore as well. I've been looking at Charlotte as a possible destination.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) Marshall constantly beats his girlfriend and has cops always visiting his house. He has also had constant run ins with the law. He's far more the thug than Plaxico. I'm not saying Plaxico is amazing. The funny thing is there is TO who everyone b****es about yet he doesn't do anything wrong off the field. Such bulls*** TO gets so much hate. TO gets hate because he messes up the team ON THE FIELD and in the locker room, regardless of what those other players do off the field, they are gamers and pretty good teammates on the field. -
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) well, if you take Fields 5 for 45 slump out of it he's hitting .262. I don't think either of them have been overly impressive yet. Beckham looks to have a nice upside but you never know. 2 years ago, Fields was looking like the real deal as well. They couldnt be more different hitters, a pretty bad comparison IMO.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) San Diego's a cool city, especially the Gaslamp District, and there's lots of nice beaches and golf courses, plus Tijuana ain't far away at all. Some of the beach towns north of the city are great places to live like OB, PB and encinitas

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) LOL, my brothers dog did that to my dad, but not with Lou's. That is truly impressive. How big is your lab? My girl is very petite, she is only 60 lbs She's about 68 lbs. Doesnt even eat that much, but she apparently likes Lou's as much as possible.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Yes, because two young starting pitchers going through a bad spell, definitely are a great comparison to an aging relief pitcher showing signs of decline. Its being considered a bad spell in hindsight, take a took at the posts and threads dedicated to regression, waste of money, trade him now while you still can. Linebrink isnt the greatest, but he's had a bad week, DLEE hit a good pitch and he couldnt get the 4th out.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) The only thing that really terrifies her anymore is thunder. I'm sure a few folks on here had a fun night last night with the storms as well. I had a dog sleeping next to me on my pillow when I woke up at 5 am.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) When we moved to Schaumburg I thought that the fridge thing was over because at our previous place the fridge was kind of easy to open, the seal wasnt very tight. Boy was I wrong. The kicker was when my wife picked me up on my birthday from work and when we walked in, she said my birthday cake was in the fridge. As i walked in the door, both dogs are sitting RIGHT behind the door just about trembling. I looked at my wife and said "oh yeah, they did something bad". We walked upstairs and go into the kitchen, and see a few brown smudges here and there, and I opened the fridge and it looked like someone set off a giant cherry bomb in the middle of my cake. the only difference was the blast pattern had paw marks in it. A double stacked white cake with chocolate frosting reduced to about 3 pieces, Happy Birthday. Haha. Heres a story, I'll lay out the key points. 1.Delivery man drops off deep dish Lou's pizza 2.Put pizza on coffee table, go into other room for plates, silverware, drinks etc 3.Table is empty 4. pizza shaped dog 5.Not mad, but just plain impressed
