  1. Great deal by Kenny, Richard decided to pitch well at the right time again for us. I cant say im all that sorry to see Poreda go. Glad we kept Hudson as well.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Why did we trade for him in the 1st place? FTW
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) I'm not so confident on that. Beckham is making great strides, and should at least be average, probably more, but I am not sure yet. And in Alexei's case, I have seen him plateau and even regress defensively this season, which concerns me a lot. Both are rookies defensively at their positions, give them a year from now and I think you will see a huge improvement.
  4. I think they are dangling jorDanks for a reliever, my gut says Heath Bell.
  5. I see us coming in and totally owning the Twins in their new stadium.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Punto (along with Gomez and other crappy Twin players) is tough against us, but for the rest of the league, he sucks. Having him play less is only a positive for the Twins. But you also have to realize that having O-Cab at short is a positive for the White Sox as well considering how much he has declined. Offensively he had to go on a tear this month to even get his numbers up to Harris's level.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Its funny, I keep having this illogical reaction to these deals, where I want KW to do something. Then I realize, I am not sure what the team could even use at this point. Therefore, I'd like him to go big (Peavy-level big), or stand pat. We could realistically add an Of'er (maybe) a SP, and a 2B. A bullpen arm could help if it was a top tier lefty.
  8. Also, in his contract the Twins are not allowed to offer him arbitration which means he will leave at the end of the season, and the Twins get nothing.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) It didn't stop the Red Sox, Angels or White Sox winning when he was around. He is a douchebag, no question, but he is a huge upgrade for them although his glove has slipped this year. Just be thankful the Twins made that trade for Delmon Young. Bartlett and Garza would look very good on the Twins. Thats what I dont get, how is he an upgrade? He is a downgrade defensively and offensively he is about the same as the guy he is replacing. Frankly, if this means less of Nick Punto, I see this as a win for the White Sox.
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Cabrera REALLY improves them up the middle. They can have Harris play 2B. I'd like to see your explanation on this. Harris has been better defensively than Cabrera, and now he is moving to a faster surface. They have also been about equal offensively. I dont see this as an upgrade at all.
  11. Enjoy that clubhouse cancer Twinkies
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) If they get Scott as well, and we just stand pat, might as well just hand them the division, IMO. Yes, because all the name players a team can get dictates who wins the division each year.... They can continue to stockpile older players and trade away all their young guys as much as they want IMO. The Sox are competing just fine now with our mix and we are poised to really have a nice young core in the near future.
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Why all the talk of trading Ramrez? He isn't going anywhere. The kid came up to the bigs straight from Cuba and our ST. He is still learning just like Beckham. The kid has tons of talent and I am sure this criitcism from Ozzie and the team is a way of getting him to concentrate and raise to the higher level expected in the bigs Exactly, and Gordon's natural position will be 3B by the end of the season. He is perfect for that spot. The left side of our infield should produce 50hrs and drive in almost 200 runs each season while hitting 280-310. Thats something every team strives for. Both will be plus defenders with good range and good speed on the basepaths. I dont see what the big deal is wanting to just move good players to make a move. Honestly, I think its boredom.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 09:15 AM) You mentioned the YES network. Being in NY i also watched the game on that. I usually don't mind them, but last night they annoyed me. They kept harping on AJ and his "dirty" slide, and the strike zone. Leiter really started getting on my nerves. They had some good moments, but they were also terrible in spots AJ strikes out. Leiter: "oh dont throw the bat down, thats just wrong. You should never show frustration like that, there are kids in the stadium" Apparently he ignored the frustration showed by the Yanks when they K'ed?
  15. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) There is a spot, just south of Fullerton that has got to be one of the most dangerous spots. It's basically just the lake, the path and some stone steps and there are CONSTANTLY kids darting across from the lake to the steps. I've been in many near crashes on my bike and when I rollerbladed. Nobody looks. I think they should make the bike path safely attached to Lake Shore Drive. Maybe have a fifth bike lane separated by barriers. Also: I've always said, Chicago is a right-of-way city. When I drive, I have the right-of-way. When I walk, Ihave the right-of-way. When I bike, I have the right-of-way. And I think most Chicagoans feel that way. That part of the lake isnt even a path, I would venture up there. I go from about Monroe down south past the museums, VERY clear sailing.
  16. Lost in this walk off is going to be how great Beckham was defensively last night. I am in NYC so the YES network is showing the game over and over and over, and I dont think alot of people are going to remember how dominant he was in the early innings at 3B.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) Agreed, but it looks like they're actually willing to spend some money to try and get their team into good position in 3 years. By that time, maybe the Cubs and Cardinals won't be so much more talented than the rest of the division. This is such a great point, i'm glad I saw it. The Cubs are going to be saddled with hefty contracts for a few older players, not to mention a bare minor league system and free agents coming available that dont have the age defying use of PED's. The Pirates could contend if they build their team correctly. That would be sweet IMO, I always liked the old Pirates teams that competed.
  18. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 06:18 PM) Who would want Alexei ? Who wouldnt? SS who can hit and plays a decent SS in his FIRST pro season at the position. Until he was hurt, he was one of our best trading chips easily. BTW, the Pirates are starting to rape people, I hope they turn that org around.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) I'd just rather not pigeon-hole Beckham. I can see him succeeding anywhere that you might need him in the lineup. He's that good. I'd prefer he is lower than 4th in the order because he is such a good run producer and his contact rate is very high. RISP .410 .457 1.021 RISP 2 outs .556 .652 1.208 Runners on .362 .410 .903 I think he needs to have people on in front of him which is why I dont like him in the 2-hole.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) Well, I will say I don't usually come to a full stop at stop signs while on the bike. I slow down to a crawl, pull up to the line, and take my turn. But I don't just fly through. Right, and some dont warrant a full stop, but I just see too many people on bikes totally ignore any rules of the road and then they are upset when they jeopardize their own lives and lives of others. I am an avid biker, but I do it in a reasonable manner, and if I want to ride fast, I do it on the lakefront.
  21. Cliff Lee is far from proven as he can get back out of sorts in a hurry, but the Phils got a pretty good deal here considering the prospects they gave up werent world beaters.
  22. Alexei in the 2-hole .292 .354 .796 Thats mostly why, because there hasnt been a need to move him out of there.
