ive been very impressed with orlandos ability to work the count and take a walk this year...we knew swisher would do those things, but orlando has done that stuff very nicely this year as well -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) I get home and turn on the TV and hear Hawk b****ing about Jerry Manuel not getting kicked out of a game. Then I come on here and see guys busting on Uribe for striking out on a pitch he didn't swing at, and b**** about not running to first when first base was occupied with less than 2 out. Strange. im so glad you finally got rid of your old avatar -

Essay Help on a sports topic

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) i need to write a topic on the pros and cons of a sports topic...anyone have any good ideas. I want a good thinking outside the box topic. i believe my roomate sr year of college wrote a huge paper on the pros and cons of having a tournament system for NCAA football, and did a comparison between tv ratings and a whole bunch of other analysis between it and the march madness tourney.. I am always partial to the "hot streak" debate, and whether there is such a thing as "getting hot" or whether its just statistical probability....i believe stephen jay gould, the famous scientists, has a good article arguing that dimaggios hit streak and players getting hot in a bball game is just a function of probability. basically he followed an entire team for an entire nba season and kept track of every shot taken and concluded that making the previous shot, or making some % of the previous handful of shots, had absolutely no bearing on whether you would make your next shot...thus debunking the "hot hand" theory. ive always wanted to write a big thesis on a sports topic, so i have a bunch of ideas...ill post more as they come to my mind -
QUOTE (vandy125 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) I like going with Tombstone myself. Kind of surprised I haven't heard Totinos (except for the rolls). $0.99 and they all taste the same no matter what is on them. How can you go wrong? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1610988

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) jensen lewis didn't look shaky at all, he K'd two hitters with a really nice 2-seamer on the outside corner, and tek hit a solo shot off a very well located pitch outside and down, tek just went oppo with it and had enough to get it over the wall lewis looked pretty damn good IMO i didnt see the game but he also gave up a single to crisp, a double to pedroia, and an RBI single to Youkilis after the IBB to manny...maybe he looked good stuff wise..but 4 hits in the top of the 9th, two for extra bases, aren't gonna do it...its nothing against him, i know him personally from college...i just dont think hes the guy you wanna count on late in the games just yet

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 09:25 PM) borowski to the dl today with a strained triceps. in his absence, the indian pen coughed up yet another lead in the ninth. it really is amazing how a bad bullpen can just kill a team. they gots problems.....now betancourt moves from set up to closer...jensen lewis looked a bit shaky and still can't really be trusted...and kobayashi is an untested rookie ....this leaves alot of question marks in their pen

even with the injuries i consider griffey to be in the class of ballplayers probably just a tick under mays and mantle and thomas to be just a tick under williams

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) Wow, Danks is only 23? It's amazing that Rich Hill is 28 and the media slobs his knob, but Danks is 5 years younger and he is nitpicked yeah danks was very young at every single stop in the minors, as he was pushed through because of texas's lack of pitching...honestly, he was a top prospect at the age of 21 at the beginning of last year and pitched real well...the guy has alot more upside than i think alot of people give him credit for...i mean if it came down to danks vs. jon lester (another guy whos knob gets slobbed) im not sure who id prefer -

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) What a pleasant surprise this guy has become. He's definitely earned his spot in the lineup. i was always very surprised the dbacks gave byrnes such a big contract, especially with young, upton gonzalez jackson and quentin....but i guess its worked out for them, they turned gonzalez into haren, moved jackson to 1b, and are obviously having great success with it....and that surplus allowed us to nab quentin cheap...
